3 GETTING TO ST HELENS COLLEGE IS NOW EASIER THAN EVER This travel guide is designed to give you detailed information on public transport options in and around the St Helens and wider Merseyside region, which will make your journey to and from St Helens College quicker, easier and more accessible. Inside this guide, you will find important information about our brand new, dedicated St Helens College bus service including key routes and timetables (see page 2), and our free Arriva bus pass (see page 6). We have fantastic public transport links right on our doorstep. Our Town Centre Campus and STEM Centre, Technology Campus is less than a 10-minute walk from the central bus station and train station, linking to routes across Cheshire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester and Lancashire. 1

4 ST HELENS COLLEGE FREE BUS SERVICE St Helens College has launched a brand new, dedicated bus service, operating across three main routes, every weekday during term time. The free buses will cover Sefton, Kirkby, South Liverpool, Leigh, Lowton, Golborne and Ashton-in-Makerfield. Just look for a Hatton s Travel bus or coach, which will be clearly marked with route A, B or C, depending on where you live. The front of the bus will also display Free College Bus. To access the free bus service, you will need to stand at the designated stop and make it clear to the bus driver that you would like them to stop. Once on the bus, you will need to show your student ID badge to the driver at the time of boarding. You will receive this ID badge when you enrol on your chosen course at St Helens College. 8 FREE BUS PASS St Helens College offer a free Arriva bus pass for the whole academic year, which can be used every weekday during term time, including evenings. This bus pass is available to all year old St Helens College students, on a full-time course. If you live in an area that is covered by both Arriva buses and the new St Helens College bus service, you will need to decide whether you would like a free Arriva bus pass or a seat on our free St Helens College bus service. 10 WALKING, CYCLING, DRIVING AND TRAIN TRAVEL Cycling St Helens College provides several sheltered cycle spaces across both the Town Centre Campus and STEM Centre, Technology Campus. Both campuses, less than 10 minutes apart, are easily accessible to those living within the St Helens vicinity. Cycle lanes and cycle paths are also available in the area. Please ensure that you bring a lock for your bicycle if you plan to cycle to College and only store your bicycle in the designated sheltered spaces.* Train St Helens Central train station is located approximately 10 minutes walk from the Town Centre Campus and less than 5 minutes walk away from the STEM Centre, Technology Campus. Located within the heart of the town centre, St Helens Central provides regular services to and from Liverpool, Wigan and Blackpool. These services also stop at popular stations en route, including Huyton, Prescot, Roby, Thatto Heath, Eccleston Park, Garswood and Bryn. A taxi rank is located outside of the station and sheltered cycle storage facilities are available. To plan your train route to St Helens College, visit 8

11 Walking Both of St Helens College s campuses are located within walking distance of the town centre. Students living in surrounding areas, such as West Park, Denton s Green, Haresfinch, Merton Bank and Parr can enjoy a short walk to College, while those using the train or bus for part of their journey are only a short distance away from College. Driving Student parking is NOT available at St Helens College s Town Centre Campus and a parking eye system is in operation. Those parking on the car park without a permit will receive a fine. The closest public car park is North John Street Car Park, a pay and display car park directly opposite the Town Centre Campus. Students at the STEM Centre, Technology Campus can park on the main car park at the back of the campus, where parking is available on a first come, first served basis.* Disabled parking is available for blue badge holders at both campuses. Students will need to see Student Services to obtain an additional permit before being able to park in disabled bays. *St Helens College cannot accept any liability for vehicles, bicycles or contents left on the College premises and car park at either campus. 9
