I would like to extend my warmest greeting to all of you who have supported our tournament in the past and especially to those who are first time participants. It gives me great pleasure to extend to you my personal invitation to participate in 23rd California Open International Taekwondo Championship, held at California State University Dominguez Hills, Toro Gym on. I am honored to be hosting this event and strongly encourage all martial artists of the highest quality for participation in this championship. Your students and your support are very important to us and are the key to a successful tournament. This tournament is more than just a competition, it is an opportunity for you to show all the hard work and dedication you and your students have put into perfecting your technique and we look forward to seeing all of you at what will be an exciting and rewarding tournament. Our main goals of the tournament is to encourage the participants to be more disciplined and celebrative of the martial arts. 2 IMPORTANT NOTICE 1. For all belts of 9 years old or younger, their competitions will begin at 9:00am and ends at 12:00pm. This competition is for both Poomse and Sparring. For all belts of 10 years or older, their competitions for both Poomse and Sparring will be from 1:00pm to 7:00pm 2. Weigh-In is required for Blackbelt Gyoroogi (sparring) competitors ages between years old. Weigh-In time is at 12:00 NN - Saturday Oct. 24 (tournament day) at California State University Dominguez Hills, Toro Gym (Room to be announce) Blackbelt Gyoroogi (sparring) competitors ages between years old will use Electronic Scoring Chest Guards (DAEDO Electronic Chest Guard) In this category competitors must bring their own Electronic Foot Protector. It is recommended that you purchase the E socks before the event. You can purchase by visiting Weigh-in is not required for Poomse competitors. 3. All Gyoroogi competitors must wear: headgear, red and blue reversible chest protector, forearm gloves, shin and instep protector, groin cup (male only), mouthpiece. Competitors must provide their own equipment. 5 COMPETITION RULES & REGULATIONS The Organizing Committee recognizes that each school may have a different belt color system. Please refer to rank and color chart below and register yourself to compete in the appropriate WTF belt color and rank. POOMSE RULES: Poomse competitors must perform only the authorized poomse designated for their specific rank. Scores will be based on: Proper order, Beauty, Grace, Rhythm, Power, Technique, and Attitude. Authorized poomse are those approved by the World Taekwondo Federation: Basic Forms 1 & 2, Taeguek 1-8, Palgue 1-8, and WTF Black belt Poomses: Koryo, Keumkang, Taebaek etc. The chart below designates required poomses for your rank. To maintain consistency in competition, please wear the belt color corresponding with our ranking chart. New Rules: Blocking with the leg when opponent initiates a kick a warning. Two feet that cross the plane of the boundary line is out. Referee calls fight after 5 seconds of inactivity, the athlete who has given up ground by backing up will receive a warning. Ages 7 and Under ( All Belts) and Ages 11 & under ( Color Belts) Divisions Sparring competitors Ages 11 & Under color belts and 7 & Under black belts may not make head contact at anytime during the competition. A competitor, who executes a technique to the head area, will be subject to one of the following actions. Any technique, attempted to the head area but does not make contact, will be given a warning by the referee (Kyong-go) Any technique, which makes any contact with the head area will result in a one-point deductions by the referee ( Gamjeom) If the competitor cannot continue because of contact with the head area, the attacker will be disqualified. Inability to continue competition because of fright, crying or loss of will following a legal kick to the body, does not constitute grounds for disqualification of the attacker Ages 8 11 (Black belts), ( All belts), and ( All Belts) Divisions The competitor is encouraged to attempt kicks to the facial area; however absolute control must be exercised or the appropriate penalty shall be invoked. The competitor who executes a successful technique ( light contact without causing injury) shall be awarded one point. The competitor who executes a kick to the face or neck, which results in a minor injury, shall receive a one-point deduction. A minor injury is defined as an abrasion or bleeding caused by excessive contact. The competitor who executes a kick to the face or neck, which results in the inability of the opponent to continue because of injury, shall be disqualified. The jury, referee, and judges, after consultation with the tournament physician, is necessary, shall make this determination. Note: Inability to continue because of fright, crying, or loss of will, following a legal kick to the head, does not constitute grounds of disqualification of the attacker. Black belt competitors, age will follow WTF senior competition rules. Certain rules and/or regulations are subject to change at the discretion of the California Open Intl. Taekwondo Championship Committee and the Tournament Director. ROUNDS: * Competitors will have two (2) 60 second rounds with a 15 second break. * Black belt competitors years of age will have two(2) - 90 seconds * Final bouts for year old Black belts will consist of three rounds. * In consideration of time constraints, we reserve the right to change the duration of the rounds as necessary. IN CASE OF A TIE: In case of a tie score, the winner will be determined by a Golden Point round. EQUIPMENT: Competitors must bring headgear, chest protector, forearm pads, shin and instep protector, groin cup ( males) and mouthpiece. Uniforms must be white with the exception of black trim V-necks for Black belts only. Black belt years of age. In this category competitors must bring their E-Foot protector. Those of you who doesn't have can be purchased or rent in the tournament site.
