1 FOUNDED IN 1977 TO REPRESENT THE AUTO HOBBY IN NEW MEXICO NEWSLETTER FOR AUGUST, 2011 NEXT MEETING TO BE AT OLD CAR GARAGE WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 24, 2011, 7:30pm MEETING AGENDA: All Clubs Picnic Report, Swap Meet Plans ALL CLUBS PICNIC Some serving utensils were left at the picnic. Joyce has one Oneida stainless cake/pie server, one stainless table knife, and one small angled spatula with a wooden handle. Please get in touch if you are missing something from the picnic. Thanks. Joyce oldcarnut1932@earthlink.net or SWAP MEET The Swap Meet is well on the way to happening. Advertising is started, hat pins are designed and ordered. The flyers and entry blanks have been mailed. Thank you to the group who showed up to help with this project. We will be seeking more volunteers at the July meeting. All volunteers are invited to the Hobo Dinner on Friday evening at the swap meet field. If you help during the meet, you get a ticket for a free lunch from one of the vendors. Applications for spaces are available at Start spreading the word! Contact Joyce at or oldcarnut1932@earthlink.net to offer your help. Thank you in advance. The Car Council is now a current member of SEMA. Any club may join for free. It will keep members updated about proposed legislation that affects the car hobby nationwide. If you or your club want to sign up, go to and do it. It costs nothing and should be informative. The editor will publish any pertinent information received. New Mexico Council of Car Clubs Minutes: July 27, 2011 Meeting Dennis Seibert, our President, called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM. All present indicated that they had received our previous newsletter. Our sign-in sheet was not returned to the Secretary at the end of this meeting so we can't report on all the club representatives that were on hand. Guest Speakers: Bruce Phillips spoke about the "2011 Enchantment International Car Show" that will be held at Sandia Motor Speedway on October 8, This show, open to all, is being held to benefit the New Mexico Cancer Center Foundation. Entry fee is $25.00 and an admission fee will be charged at the gate. Al Unser Sr. has signed on as Honorary Chairperson of this event. Further information can be had by going online to or call (505) Robert Quintana, President of the Volcano Vista Cheerleading Squad Booster Club, spoke about a fund raising car show to be held on September 17, 2011 at Volcano Vista High School in Northwest Albuquerque. This car show called the "Hawk Rod Auto Car Show" is open to all sorts of vehicles. Entry fees: Cars-$35.00, Motorcycles-$25.00, Vendor Booths-$ Treasurer's Report: Ron Rymarz reported that our checking account balance as of this date stands at $ In addition to our checking account we have some cd's that total $14, in value. Old Business: Car Show Volunteer Lunch-Joyce Clements reported that thirty three people showed up for the Volunteer Luncheon held at the Village Pizza Shop in Corrales on Sunday July 24, Joyce also reported that after all expenses were paid that our Albuquerque Museum Show showed that we had made $ on this event. Collector Car Appreciation Day- Dennis Seibert and John Doran reported that Governor Martinez proclaimed July 8, 2011 as Collector Car Appreciation Day in New Mexico. On Saturday morning, July 9, 2011, a caravan of collector cars traveled down Central Avenue to the Mild to Wild Shop on Third Street for a party to celebrate this event. Over 50 cars were on display and about 100 people showed up for a nice barbecue lunch. Thanks to the Rickshaws Car Club, Tony Kos and the Mild to Wild Crew, John Doran, and all the people

2 who showed up to make this a successful event. On a related note we have heard from the Village of Los Lunas that they would like to host a Collector Car Appreciation Day in Los Lunas next year. New Business: All Clubs Picnic-Louie Paul reports that he has advance $5.00 tickets available for our All Clubs Picnic at Nambe Falls for people that want to purchase them ahead of time. He also asked for clubs to volunteer to bring deserts, salads, condiments, and paper goods to make this event a success. Annual Fall Swap Meet-Bob Agnew and Joyce Clements reported that this event is moving along. Joyce reported that she has already sold 40 vendor spots. Los Lunas also told us we can use the adjacent baseball field for overflow spaces if we run out of spaces on the regular fields. Bob Agnew says that the Village of Los Lunas is very happy with this event and they would like to see this event grow bigger in the future. Bob Agnew also proposed that we pay for the cost of a hospitality tent where vendors and the public can go to eat their lunch, drink coffee, and meet with their friends to get out of the hot sun. Bob received a quote from a tent company to rent such a tent for the weekend of $ This cost would cover delivery, set up, tear down, ten tables, and one hundred chairs. Since the cost of this tent was not covered in our original budget for the swap meet Bob asked that a vote be taken at the meeting approving the cost for this added item. A vote was taken but Ron Rymarz said the vote was not appropriate for the membership to consider since the budget was already approved by the Swap Meet Committee. He said that the question should be presented to the Swap Meet Committee to consider. Joyce Clements asked all the Swap Meet Committee members on hand to vote on the proposal either for or against. The Swap Meet Committee members voted in favor of the proposal and then a motion was made that a vote be taken by all the club representatives on hand and the motion was passed. Status of 501(c) (3) Filing-Lisa BonDurant had no new information to report on this subject. At this time the meeting was adjourned. Paul G.
