Group Leaves Promptly at 7:00 PM Thank You Dear Fellow Corvette Members: Thank you for your generous donation to the Guadalupe Clinic in memory of John. Your thoughtfulness will always be remembered. John thought so much of the Corvette Club and of all of you. Participating in the Club was a BIG part of his life and he enjoyed it up to the very end. Thank you all for attending John's funeral. I received many comments on how wonderful and impressive that you drove your Corvettes in memory of him. I know John was impressed!!! When things settle down this fall, I plan on tagging along for a Drive and Eat. I will look forward to seeing you then. Again, thank you for your love and support during this difficult time. 4 Air Capital Corvette Club Meeting Minutes October 4, 2000 Meeting was called to order by President Dick Volkman. Motion made to accept the minutes for the September 6, 2000 meeting, motion passed. Don Crigler advised new members in the club, Richard Kenney, and Doug & Mary Mehl. Volkman stated that the membership dues are due by the November 1st meeting. All dues paid later are considered new members. A vote to fill (3) vacant positions on the board will be held on November 1st. Nominations are Connie Fitzgibbons, Larry Roth, Candace Corbin and Gene Brown. Volkman advised that anyone going to Eureka Springs on Thursday October 5th could meet at Kellogg and Webb Rd and leave as a group at 9:00 AM. Gene Brown advised a friend of his has a trailer hitch for a Corvette for sale. Fred Johnson won the door prize, a box of cookies. John Fitzgibbons won the 50/50 drawing. NOTE Richard Johnson drove his 1964 Corvette in the Economy run in Eureka Springs and won 1st in his class. I forgot the mileage but it was close to 27.3 mpg. 5 SPECIAL NOTICE ANOTHER DRIVE-AND-EAT Saturday evening, November 18, the Enid Corvette Club is making a run to Caldwell, KS to eat in the Last Chance Saloon. I have arranged for us to join them. This will be a chance to get together with our friends from Enid (remember the Enid Corvette Classic) as well as a little run before the weather turns off bad. We will be leaving promptly at 4:00PM from the ice rink downtown (our usual meeting place for drive-an-eats). Come join us. PUT THIS ON YOUR CALENDAR SO YOU DON T FORGET. 7 Points From Gordon Killebrew Points that Gordon Killebrew made about the C4s during two seminars. The 84s and to a lesser extent, the 85s were designed as race cars and not road cars. One can help the ride by changing both springs and roll bars but they will still be stiff. Up until around 89, the expansion tank for the radiator was mounted lower than the top of the radiator. Air can get trapped in the upper part of the radiator and cause the low antifreeze warning light to be on. Filling the expansion tank won t cure the problem. You will have to take the radiator cap off and fill the radiator itself. The opti-spark (distributor) on the LT-1s have a felt seal that allows moisture to enter the unit and rust it. A new unit costs $425 and installation requires the removal of the water pump. DON T WASH A LT-1 WITH A HIGH PRESSURE HOSE. Starting with the 95, a vacuum source was added to the opti-spark to draw fresh air through it and prevent moisture from building up. Mid America carries a retro kit designed by Killebrew for the earlier ones that adds a vacuum source. He highly recommended it when considering the cost and time of a new opti-spark. If you must wash you engine, he recommended wrapping and sealing the opti-spark with plastic, spraying the engine with a engine degreaser, and then washing that off with a spray bottle to keep the pressure to a minimum. Premium fuel is not required for a stock L98 or LT-1. The on board computer will compensate for the lower compression. Power will be minimally diminished by the later timing. Gas mileage will also go down but will be more than offset by the lesser price of regular. There will be no damage to the engine. Posi track additive should always be used when changing the rear end oil. When using Mobil 1, there is no reason to be changing it oftener than every 5,000 miles. No reason to change it every 3,000 miles. He felt that Mobil 1 was the best oil available. Changing a six-speed to an automatic would be a major job as some of the under car components are different. 11 2001 A.C.C.C. Election Absentee Ballot This ballot is included in the news letter for members that cannot make it to the November meeting. If you cannot make it to the meeting you can fill out this ballot and mail it to the club post office box, give it to an A.C.C.C. Officer or it. If mailed to the P.O. Box, all ballots must be received in the box by November 1st, If given to an officer, they must be received before the November 1st. meeting. If ed, they must be received at before 6:00 P.M. on November 1st. Any ballots mailed or given to an officer must be signed.
