1 Air Capital Corvette Club Newsletter Volume 36 - Issue 9 September, 2003 Air Capital Corvette Club Officers: President Daryl Burbach Vice President Linn Smith Secretary Doug Mehl Treasurer Gary Henderson Officer at Large John Fitzgibbons N.C.C.C. Governor Ken McGrew Newsletter Editor Kent Michael ACCC s Web Page Ramblings From The Prez.... What I did on my summer vacation. Dear Teacher, I went to Colorado for my summer vacation. We went way high up into the mountains to a town called Breckenridge. There was some Corvette thing going on. I don t understand about Corvettes as they only hold 2 people and not all your friends and they don t have many colors. Seems like they are all red or white and I would rather have some far out color like purple. Well anyway, the first day we took a ski lift up the side of a mountain and then rode down the mountain on these boards with wheels under them. We went in a concrete trough that twisted back and forth. It was way cool because when you went around a corner, the board would go up the side of the trough. Kept having to slow down for all these little kids. I wish the kids would just realize they are too young for these things and just stay away and do something else like swinging in the swings. Then we got into some rubber rafts and floated down the Arkansas River although they call it the Arkansaw River there. Kevin Lundberg kept splashing people in the other rafts with his paddle so I joined in so he wouldn t feel like he was by himself. Everybody got real wet and it was fun. Again, some of the little kids didn t like it and complained about being cold. I wish they would grow up. Some of us tried climbing up another mountain to where the airplane from Wichita State University crashed. A big storm came up and it lightninged and thundered. I found an old truck in a construction lot and crawled into it. I was mad because there were no mice in it I could play with. Back at the place we lived, there was a hot tub we got into. I couldn t see very far because of the big mountain in the way. Saturday evening we went to McGrew s house and cooked hamburger out on the deck. Again big mountains kept me from seeing very far. Every evening it would get cold and I would have to wear long pants and a coat. I didn t like that because I want to be warm like I am in Kansas. We saw a Corvette that had a long engine in it. It had 12 cylinders in it. Also saw some brand new Corvettes that had been made to look like old ones. Kevin had to drive real slow coming home because his engine was getting so hot. Eureka Springs The meet in Eureka Springs, Arkansas is coming up. The Holiday Inn is running out of rooms although I know we can get you a room if you haven t reserved one yet. If you are new to the club, talk to me and I will fill you in on the Corvette meet there. New Members Welcome to the new members that are joining this month. Always fun to have more mid-life crisis people. Elections It is getting to be the time to nominate new officers for next year. Nominate yourself if you would like to be involved. I know the president s job will be open. Potentate, Daryl Burbach Page 1

2 September, 2003 Volume 36 - Issue 9 Minutes of ACCC Meeting August 6, 2003 The meeting was called to order this month by Vice President Lin Smith at the new Don Hattan Chevrolet facility north on 135. The president, Daryl Burbach, was unable to attend due to the annual Corvette on the Rockies car show at Frisco, Colorado. Along with a few other members they were having a great time in the mountains while back home we all were very hot and dry. This months drive and eat was discussed, it was decided to meet at the skating rink and follow Greg and Marie Esping to Harper, Kansas to participate in a parade then all were to eat at a local club for a great dinner together. Greg Esping won the 50/50 pot and donated it to the club, a big thanks to him. The meeting was short this month had some guests and new members come and talked about the big show coming up in October at Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Keep those gas tanks full Doug... Friday September 5th. Drive & Eat Meet in the parking lot south of the Ice Sports Wichita Skating Rink 505 W. Maple. Sponsored by Kent & Louise Michael Group Leaves Promptly at 7:00 PM Page 2

3 Volume 36 - Issue 9 September, 2003 Minutes of ACCC E-Board Meeting August 20, 2003 The meeting was called to order at John and Connie Fitzgibbons home by President Daryl. The discussion to start with was the good time had by all that attended the Corvette of the Rockies Car Show. The Heartsprings Car Show was discussed letting us know the new date for next year. John (Officer at Large) asked for suggestions of a new location for the awards banquet, nothing decided yet will do more checking into. The treasurer Gary announced checking account has $ and 1, in savings account. Doug talked about the big 3 day corvette event in Omaha, Nebraska put on by the Cornhusker Corvette Club. They have drag racing, auto cross, funkahana, and a car show, it should be a lot of fun to see how they do it in Nebraska. Keep on Movin... Doug Page 3
