We had a snowy start to the month of February but, despite that we had a great meeting and then we went and ate. The night of the Drive-and-Eat was very cold and the parking lot at the Ice Rink had 6 inches of snow still on it. About 15 cars, trucks and SUV's showed up, but only 2 Corvettes were there. Kent & Louise drove one of their many older Vettes, I guess Kent thought the traction control and anti-lock brakes on their C-5 wouldn't be needed with the snow & ice (I think this is an attempt at a Darrell Burbach facetious remark). Kudos to Art and Darlene for driving their new 50 th anniversary Z06, I think all that horsepower came in handy for getting out of the parking lot. Once we got under way we were led to the Carriage Crossing restaurant at Yoder and it was great. Thanks to the McGrews for hosting this great time. We have a great deal of upcoming events in the next few months so we need large turn outs for the club meetings, so we can have diverse discussions and then we can go eat. 2 March, 2004 Volume 37 - Issue 3 Minutes of ACCC Meeting February 4, 2004 The meeting was called to order by our president Kevin Mansfield (he was not dressed in his suit) at 7:00 p.m. sharp. We had a pretty good turnout in spite of the weather. Several items were discussed: Kevin & Gary got he checking account in order, the bank informed them that we need to make at least one deposit in the savings account throughout the year so we would not get charged. Kent mentioned the swap meet held at the Kansas Coliseum on Feb. 6-7, hope everyone found a bargain. It was mentioned, if you are thinking about buying a new corvette or any new car for that matter to give Don Hattan a chance sometimes while you re shopping and getting prices. He told John Fitzgibbons that he would really work with you on the price. Dave & Aleta Boller invited members to their house for the Daytona 500 race which was held on Feb. 15th. It was a very good race hope everyone that watched it enjoyed it. Had some pretty good wrecks and Jeff Gordon didn t win (I m happy about that). Talked about a club trip to Bowling Green in April or May more will be said about this at next meeting. So, please come to the next meeting for the discussion, it will be a fun trip. We also talked about day trips, if anyone would like to put together a run on a Sat. or Sun. please let us know. The club wants to plan as much this summer as we can. Also, mentioned was Funkahana at the air strip where Randy Smith works, also club group pictures. After all that the 50/50 was drawn and you will never guess who won, it wasn t John this time. The jackpot was won by Marie Esping ($10). Kevin adjourned the meeting; mort of us went over to the Cracker Barrel for dinner. I am pretty sure that Greg borrowed the $10 from Marie to have meatloaf. The Day s Inn, formerly the Holiday Inn (they lost their association with Holiday Inn), is undergoing renovation and has one wing closed. If you are interested, the Comfort Inn s phone number is (580) The rate for the car show is $59.00 per night. The Comfort Inn is also closer to the Expo Center and the event shuttle will still drop you off Friday night and pick you up Saturday morning. If anyone is interested in doing something Sunday, we need to talk about it at the March meeting. The year before last we went to the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City and last year we toured the Marland Mansion in Ponca City. Does anyone have any suggestions for this year? Page 2

Those that attended; Ann Buckendahl (Heartspring), Daryl Burback, Kevin & Paula Mansfield, John & Connie Fitzgibbons, Kent Micheal, Gary Henderson, Randy & Lin Smith The car show is up against some competition on this weekend of 6/12/04. The make a wish car show is the same weekend at Sam s West. It was suggested that Ann should start attending as many car club meetings between now and June to push the Heartsprings car show. For her to explain who they are and where the money is going. We offered to help her as much as we can. We will get flyers to pass out sometime in early April (the sooner the better). We will discuss the show more at the next meeting. Other business was as follows: Enid Corvette car show on 4/3/04 Refund from NCCC of $60, we overpaid, 990 form needs to be sent in for nonprofit organization, PO Box rent needs to be paid by the end of June. Next e-board meeting will be at John & Connie Fitzgibbons on the 7:00 p.m. The coffee & cookies were very good; you people don t know what you are missing at these e-board meetings. 4 March, 2004 Volume 37 - Issue 3 My first Corvette I grew up like most of us always dreaming about someday owning a Corvette. I never knew that a passion for a car would mean to me what it does today. Of course a Corvette is more than just a car. My first Corvette, a 1976 was purchased out of the Auto Trader on Labor Day I drove it back from OKC with no A/C in 108 degree heat. Obviously, my first project for the car was to fix the A/C. The car really didn t need too much as it had recently gone through a cosmetic restoration by a Corvette specialty shop in OKC. The car was purchased in 1995 from this shop by radio station KATT to by given away to celebrate their 20th anniversary. For most of 1995 and 1996 it was shown around the OKC area at special events to promote the giveaway. In the summer of 1996 it was won by a lucky listener. This person kept the car for less than a year and sold it. The individual that bought it lived in OKC and worked for GM in Michigan. After a little less than a year of driving back and forth the owner treated the Corvette to a mechanical rebuild. In less than 3-4 months he had lost his job at GM and was forced to sell it after moving back to OKC. After I purchased the car, I drove it as is until February of 1999 when I decided a repaint was in order. My intention was to keep it the Classic White. The original color was Buckskin and I was not going back to that. I disassembled the car in my garage and delivered it to Jelich Body Shop. he stripped it and prepped it for paint. Of course during this time I had a chance to rethink my choice of colors. I intended to go back with a Corvette color like the new Magnetic Red or possibly something else from a newer Vette. Fred at Jelichs asked if I was willing to try something different. I had no idea what his definition of different was. His suggestion was a completely new idea in paint technology. Something that had only been on the market a few short years and at that time was not widely used. I carried a small paint chip around for several weeks while my Corvette sat in primer. I just couldn t make the jump to go this drastic. Between Fred and my wife Aleta they talked me into going ahead with the paint job. What was finally applied to the car was Dupont ChromaLusion. A specially formulated color shift paint that changes colors and intensity based upon the angle of the viewer and the light source. The color applied is called Absolute Purpleen. The color shift comes from a 5 layer flake that is mixed in with a paint pigment that is basically clear. The colors that you see are not in the paint they are the light source being absorbed and reflected by the flake. In simple terms the flake is acting like a prism. The Corvette was returned to me the first of April. I reassembled it just in time to drive it to the Corvettes of Enid car show. We drove down on Friday to set up at the show. I was very busy Saturday during the show telling the story of the paint. It was something that most had never seen before or had only seen in magazines. During the awards ceremony on Sunday I was fortunate enough to receive 3rd place in my class (custom). With the number and caliber of cars ate the show I was very humbled to receive any type of award. My biggest surprise was soon to come when they were announcing the awards in all of their Best Of categories. What a great surprise and a perfect birthday present it was to receive Best Paint for the show. All of the indecision over the past several weeks was wiped away as I received my plaque. These were the first of several awards for the car that I have been fortunate enough to receive. When looking at the bigger picture though, the awards are very minimal compared to the people that I have met and friends that I have made over the years. All because of a special paint job on what those who have not experienced a Corvette would call just a car. Isn t it fun to be one of the few who know differently? David Boller Page 4
