1 Air Capital Corvette Club Newsletter Volume 39 - Issue 5 May, 2006 Air Capital Corvette Club Officers: President Kevin Mansfield Vice President Greg Esping Secretary Marsha Battaglear Treasurer Gary Henderson Officer at Large Linn Smith N.C.C.C. Governor......Monte Rans Newsletter Editor Kent Michael ACCC s Web Page Message from the Prez... April was a great month to get out and get the Corvette season under way. Congratulations to those members who went to the Corvette shows in Missouri and Oklahoma, it sounds like a good time was had by all. We had a wonderful meeting in April with a great many of the membership in attendance. We talked about upcoming ACCC events and adding new events. One event that was talked about was a Murder Mystery Bed-and-Breakfast over night trip. We have many wonderful events over the next several months, you should try to participate in some of them. One event that I would like to single out is the upcoming Autocross on May I would encourage everyone to come out and help and race their Corvette. This is a low speed autocross and all you need is a SNELL rated helmet. You can learn a lot about how your Corvette handles and there is little or no danger of hurting it or you. We will for sure need people each day to work the race, so please plan on coming out. We had a great drive-and-eat in April. Our host couple led about twenty Corvettes and one metal car (that got lost and couldn t keep up and who knows what else and caused the entire line of beautiful Corvettes to pull over and idle for about ten minutes so they could catch up. Daryl are you reading this!!!!) to Burns KS where they had arranged for a family style meal at a great little café. A great big thank you goes to our hosts Rex and Candy Corbin for a wonderful time. We had a fantastic turn out of nineteen Corvettes to drive the Newton High Special Ed. students to their Prom. I know a lot of us were nervous about having so many cops with red lights and sirens around. Even through they were escorting us I noticed Kent tried to pull over once or twice. See you at the meeting, Kevin. Page 1

2 May, 2006 Volume 39 - Issue 5 Minutes from the April 5, 2006 ACCC Meeting Minutes from the April 5, 2006 ACCC Meeting The meeting was called to order by President Kevin Mansfield at Don Hattan Chevrolet. Kevin welcomed guest Jerry McKenzie who drives a silver C5. Last month s minutes were read and one correction of a typo was made. Darryl Burbach motioned that they be approved with correction and Mary Mehl seconded. The motion passed. Kevin mentioned that Bite Me Bar BQ had contacted him to ask if our club would be interested in a Show and Shine. Fifteen members, by show of hands, indicated that they would be interested. The date was tentatively set as a second Drive and Eat in Mid-May or June from 6-8 P.M. We will extend an invitation to Southwinds Corvette Club to join us. Discussion moved to the Awards Banquet costs. Kevin felt the costs were excessive and several members had notified him privately that they agreed. A concerted effort should be made to keep costs lower this year. There was no discussion. We moved directly to officer reports. Vice President Greg Esping reported that we have 50 paid members. Treasurer Gary Henderson was not in attendance so there was no report. Secretary Marsha Battaglear had nothing to report. Officer-at-Large Lin Smith reported that the Petroleum club has been reserved for Jan 27, She needs $ for the rental deposit. The money is non-refundable. Kent Michael made the motion and Darryl Burbach seconded. The motion passed to approve the money. Darryl suggested that she double check again in July to make sure we still have the reservation as the club will have a new owner. Lin asked that members donate door prizes. Her next order of business Saturday, th Drive & Eat Meet at the Truck Stop on the South West side of the 61st Street North and I-135 Exit. Hosted By: Kevin & Paula Mansfield Group Leaves Promptly at 5:30 PM was the Thunder Hockey car show. The club did not vote on points prior to the show. Because it has not been on prior lists, the decision was made to not award points this year either. The point report, without Columbia or Enid, placed Kent in first; Greg and Marie 2 nd ; and Kevin 3 rd. Governor Monte Rans announced the auto-cross is ready to go. All we need are drivers and volunteers to staff it. The dates are May 13-14, Prospective drivers are reminded that the new helmets are required. He told us of an auto memorabilia auction on May 20, 2006 in downtown Clearwater at 10 A.M. Some discussion ensued about what kinds of items would be sold. One more point of interest is the Ark City drag strip has opened again. Newsletter editor Kent Michael had nothing new to report on the newsletter. He did ask members if we would be interested in transporting Special Education students from Newton to the prom. Corvettes will meet at the Salem United Methodist Church where they will pick up their students. Police will then escort the caravan through town. A sign-up sheet was passed around for interested persons. Old Business Kevin reported that according to the survey, members wanted no changes to the point system so there would be none. A lot of interest was shown in increasing the number of social activities and road trips. E-board members will check into adding activities to the calendar. Kevin asked for reports from the Enid and Columbia car shows. Terry House was the only member who scored an award for the weekend.way to go Terry! Much discussion followed as the members shared and exchanged information about the cars at the two shows. The next order of business was the money from the auto-cross. Dick Volkman motioned and Mary Mehl seconded that we donate our part of the proceeds to the Spina Bifida foundation. Motion passed. New Business Marsha asked if anyone was interested in a Mystery Bed and Breakfast or dinner theater as one of our new additional socials. Some possible destinations were in Kansas City and Missouri. There was some interest. She will also check on Guthrie, Oklahoma and Mulvane, Kansas before the next meeting. The Drive and Eat was hosted by Rex and Candy Corbin who reminded everyone to bring cash or check and have a ½ tank of gas. The pot was won by Kent Michael who got $ Dave Hensley won the door prize. The meeting was adjourned. Whew! I hope I got it all : ) (new) Secretary. Marsha Battaglear Page 2

5 Volume 39 - Issue 5 May, 2006 Minutes from the April 19, 2006 ACCC E-Board Meeting We held the meeting at the home of Bob and Marsha Battaglear. President - Kevin Mansfield called the meeting to order. Our next Drive and Eat (Quest for Fine Food) will leave from the truck stop at 5:30 P.M. on, He then asked for officer reports. Vice President - Greg Esping reported that we now have 50 members with the possibility of two more. He also noted that we are getting low on door prizes. Treasurer - Gary Henderson reported $ in checking and $ in savings. Secretary - Kevin asked Marsha Battaglear if our constitution had been updated. Kent stated that the revised constitution had been mailed out to board members. We decided to discuss the Mystery Bed and Breakfast later in the meeting. Officer-at-Large - Lin Smith reported that Kent Michael is leading in the points race. Candy Corbin is second and Bob Battaglear is third. The date for the awards banquet is set for Jan. 27, 2007 at the Petroleum Club. She again stated her concern about awards and door prizes for the banquet. The E-Board assured her that awards need not be elaborate but some kind of tangible award would be nice. NCCC Governor - Monte Rans reminded us that the Auto-Cross is May 13 th and 14 th. He will have a sign-up sheet at the monthly meeting to sign up for drivers and volunteers. Newsletter - Kent Michael reported that the mailing list is up to date. He has not checked on the internet domain but stated that it would be a good idea to have our own. A domain of our own would be permanent and that would be beneficial. Old Business None that had not already been discussed New Business. Kevin asked Kent to check on new timing lights for the auto cross. We then had much discussion of possible additions to our calendar. The consensus seemed to be that in the fall would be the best time to add events to our calendar. The meeting was adjourned. Marsha Battaglear, Secretary Page 5
