3 WELCOME! A camporee is a gathering of many scout troops to compare their skills and have fun. The Olympics is a gathering of athletes from many nations to compete and have fun. The 2016 Konza District Spring Camporee theme is Scout Olympics! There are events that will test your scout skills and events that will test your physical and mental powers. In Scouting the patrol is the basic building block of every unit and therefore, we encourage troops make use of the patrol method. This camporee has events specifically designed for patrols to test their teamwork and scout skills. This camporee will be an opportunity for fun, fellowship, team work and to learn from other scouts. We encourage the integration of WEBELOS invited by troops into their scout patrols for the competition. TROOP REGISTRATION Troops may register for the Camporee online at A link is available on the Konza District section of the website. Payment with a credit card, debit card, or Electronic Check is required for online registration. Cost for the Camporee will be $15.00/Scout and $10.00/adult participant between registration opening until 25 Mar, 11:59 PM. The cost will increase to $20.00/Scout and $15.00/adult between 26 Mar until online registration closes 1 Apr, 11:59 PM. There will be limited registration for individuals at the camporee site itself. Troops that fail to register and provide patrol info before 1 Apr deadline, may end up with patrols not participating in all events. After registration each troop must contact Carl Griese, scoutmaster@bsa75.org with the number of patrols they will have and how many per patrol (see Patrol Composition). Each registered scout, WEBELOS and adult will receive a 2016 Camporee Patch, however there is no guarantee of patches for those who register after the 1 Apr deadline. CHECK-IN and CHECK-OUT PROCEDURES Check-in will be 5:00-9:00 PM on Friday evening in the dining hall. Please have only the Scoutmaster and Senior Patrol Leader conduct the check-in. At Check-in bring: - The patrol roster sheets including WEBELOS with names - There will be no splitting/combining/changing of patrols after check-in - LNT/clean-up duty will be assigned District personnel will check the paid registration and collect fees/add names for additional participants. - A roster of all scouts and adults that are attending include WEBELOS and WEBELOS adults will be checked and compared with what the troop brought. CAMPING / PARKING Camping will be in the Upper Meadow. Please follow the posted signs. Parking will be available in a designated area at the camp site. All vehicles/trailers will be parked on a durable surface not on the grass. Trailers will not be allowed into the Upper Meadow Friday evening for unloading only and will not sit for any length of time. Check-out will begin at 9:30 A.M. Sunday. LIMITED checkouts will be allowed Saturday night after the campfire. Campsite LNT/clean-up duty and inspections will be conducted prior to checkout. Camporee patches are distributed at checkout. MEDICAL FORMS AND ASSISTANCE Each Troop should have up to date medical forms for each Scout and Adult Leader in attendance. Forms will not be collected by the Camporee staff, but should be available in the case of a medical emergency. OA CALL-OUT CEREMONY The Kidi Kidish Lodge will conduct a district wide call-out ceremony of those scouts elected at their troops for candidacy in the Order of the Arrow. At 7:00 PM on Saturday, every scout and leader will be in Class A uniform and standing by the road near their campsite. OA members will come by and collect every troop for the walk to the OA ceremony site. The ceremony will begin at 7:30 PM. SATURDAY EVENING CAMPFIRE There will be a district-wide award campfire immediately following the OA call out ceremony. All scouts will walk from the OA ceremony to the Waters Amphitheater. At the beginning of the campfire we will do awards and recognitions.

4 Following that each troop will conduct either a skit or a song. Verification of the skit or song will be by the SPL to the camporee staff before the campfire. RELIGIOUS SERVICES A camp wide all faiths religious service will be offered on Sunday morning at 9:00 AM at the chapel. The service will be organized and run by the Chaplain s Aides from participating troops. Chaplain s Aides will be asked to come to a preparation and planning meeting on Friday evening at 9:15 P.M. MEALS Troops will provide their own meals for the weekend. No food will be provided by the Camporee staff. The Camporee will NOT have a trading post. There is no camp wide cracker barrel. FIRES IN CAMP All fires must be above ground fires ; or in approved fire ring at the park. Troops should have fire barrels or some other device to contain their wood fires. For your safety, please abide by the following rules: 1. Fires will be built only in burn barrels within the campsites and must be attended at all times. 2. When striking camp, properly dispose of ashes and burned wood. COLD-DEAD-OUT. Surplus, unburned wood can be placed in nearby tree line away from the open area for future use. 3. Liquid fuels are not to be used to start wood fires. 4. Charcoal is permitted for use in cooking fires. The use of starting fuel to ignite charcoal is prohibited except under strict adult supervision. 5. Stoves and lanterns using alternate fuels such as white gas, kerosene or propane are permitted only under adult supervision. 6. Stoves and lanterns using alternate fuels will not be operated inside of tents or other enclosed areas. 7. Fires and lighted stoves or lanterns will not be left unattended in the campsite. 8. All fire lays will be properly and safely prepared by insuring that all burnable material is cleared from the area within a 5-feet radius of the edge of a fire barrel. TREE CUTTING 1. Tree cutting on the property is prohibited. 2. Use wood that is brought in or deadfall for wood that has been gathered to burn. WATER Potable water is available on site. Water stations will be set up at the event sites. Latrine facilities with showers are available for use. Practice leave no trace or YOU may be cleaning the latrine. CAMP HEADQUARTERS Camp Headquarters will be in the dining hall. The main purpose of the Camp Headquarters is this is where the scoring will be compiled by the camporee staff. Scouts and WEBELOS will not be allowed to congregate inside. Adults will be allowed limited access (coffee, recharging). NO youth will be allowed inside to recharge or hangout while the events are going on. 5 WINNER RECOGNITION Highest score wins. Top three patrols will be awarded trophies and individual gold, silver, bronze medals Timed events will have the number of teams compared with the shortest time getting points equal to the number of teams, 2nd shortest getting the number of teams minus one, etc. Other collected points added. Infraction points deducted. Total greatest points wins. WEBELOS will be participating in the same events as the Boy Scouts incorporated into their PATROLS WEBELOS Adult Leaders need to be accompany the WEBELOS when they are participating.

6 Spring Camporee Scout Olympic Games Event Instructions: Patrol composition: Troops should combine individuals into patrols/groups mixing ability levels by SM discretion to include WEBELOS, but keeping patrol structure as much as possible. A minimum of 5 scouts/webelos and maximum of 10 scouts/webelos per patrol/group. Patrols: Designate a leader. Bring at a minimum filled individual water bottles, pocket knives (SM responsible to verify Totin Chip/Whittling Chip certification), and appropriate clothing. WEBELOS - WEBELOS will be participating in the same events as the Boy Scouts incorporated into their patrols. WEBELOS Adult Leaders need to accompany the participating WEBELOS but do not participate themselves. Adults: Accompany your patrols but do not participate, coach, lend a hand, guide, assist, or just help with the events. This is for the scouts to have fun and be scored, not the adults. Rotation - Each patrol/group will be directed to a designated starting numbered event. Patrols/groups rotate upon completion of that event. No more than 15 minutes at each event (each event begins at the ¼ hour) follow the rotation direction given by the event monitor. Instruction at the next event station begins promptly at the ¼ hour BE ON TIME! Saturday Flag ceremony at 8:30 AM (arrive ready to go to first station) Welcome/Explain/Starting event at 8:35 AM Morning station rotations will begin at 9:00 AM and again at every 1/4 hour. 8 stations in the morning (9-11 AM). Afternoon station rotations will begin at 1:00 PM and again at every 1/4 hour. 6 stations after lunch (1-2:30 PM). Brown Steeplechase at 3:30 PM. STARTING EVENT every patrol leader lined up side by side, with his patrol behind him in front of the PL a doughnut. On GO the PL without using his hands eats the dough-nut until it is all gone. When it is all eaten, the PL will come forward to be assigned a number station for his patrol to begin at. Equipment provided: Doughnuts, dining hall benches, foil, bullhorn Winner Patrol trophies for 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd and individual patrol member medals; gold, silver, and bronze Timed events will have the number of teams compared with the shortest time getting points equal to the number of teams, 2nd shortest getting the number of teams minus one, etc. Other collected points added. 7 EVENTS 1) How big is that? 10 min Equipment provided something tall, something wide, and something heavy, scale, measuring tape, rope, and pole Part A Height and Width. Procedure: Using methods in BSA Handbook, Scouts must estimate the height of a given object. Using methods in BSA Handbook, Scouts must then estimate the width of a given object. 8 minutes maximum. Score - 10 points for determining the height/width correctly or within 2 feet. 5 points for between over 2 feet but less than 5 off. 2 points for between over 5 feet but less than 10 feet off. 0 points for over 10 feet off. Part B Weight. Procedure: Scouts will then have an object in front of them. They can lift it. They can discuss. A final answer is given of the estimated weight. 2 minutes maximum Score - 10 points correctly guessing the weight correct or within 2 lbs. 5 points for between over 2 lbs but less than 5 lbs off. 2 points for between over 5 lbs but less than 10 lbs off. 0 points for over 10 lbs off. 2) The Eternal Flame 10min Equipment provided three fire barrels on legs, 2x4 section of equal length for each patrol, kitchen matches, 4 rods, sisal baling twine, 2 stop watches Procedure: Each patrol is given two matches and a 2x4. Scouts can use their own pocket knives and hand ax if they bring it. The scouts will build small fire using only the materials given and burn thru a string. Time starts at 'go' and ends when the string is burned thru. Timed event. Extra matches can be bought for 2 points. Score - Shortest time gets the highest score (#patrols=#pts) minus bought matches. Zero points if string not burned thru in 10 min. 3) A Scout is CLEAN 13 min Equipment provided: lots of bars of soap (Ivory cut in half), 2 large buckets of water, 2 stop watches Procedure: The patrol is given a new half bar of soap and on Go the patrol races to shrink the bar of soap without breaking it. Patrol members take turns furiously washing their hands to shrink the soap. If the bar breaks or pieces are scraped off (under fingernails, gouged out with knuckles, etc) it is disqualified. Normal hand washing is the only acceptable means. Continue until the soap bar is less than ¼ its original thickness. Must pass through a guage when dropped by the event monitor for the time to finish. All members of the patrol must participate in the event as evidenced by clean hands. Scoring: Points based on time. Fastest patrol gets the most points. (#patrols=#pts) 20 points will be awarded for enthusiastic participation. No points for time if not completed within 13 min but the patrol can still get the 20 participation points. 4) Slingshot Shooting 10 min Equipment provided: 2 Surgical tubing slingshots, 8 Tennis balls, 24 milk jug targets (with point values) Procedure: The patrol puts one scout on each end of the slingshot. A third scout is the shooter. He aims and attempts to hit and knock over a milk jug (with individual point values). Each scout in the patrol participates by being the shooter at least once. Members of the patrol will help retrieve the balls. The patrol makes 12 shots. 10 minutes maximum time. Scoring: points collected are awarded. 5) Leaky Can Race 3 min Equipment provided: Two soup cans with holes, Four 5 gallon buckets with & wo water, metric ruler, stop watch Procedure: Place a bucket 10 meters away from another bucket of water and give each team a small can with holes drilled in the side near the bottom. Team members take turns to fill the can with water, race to the bucket to empty it, and return to give the can to the next Scout. A patrol is judged on the amount of water in the bucket after three minutes as measured by a ruler to the lesser millimeter. Scoring - Points based on the amount of water. Millimeter = points plus, 10 points will be awarded if every member of the patrol participates.

8 6) Mystery Relay Race 10 min Equipment provided: 2 Stop watches, 2 paper bags, 2 sets of ten task cards, 4 ropes, saltines..and Procedure: Patrol lines up single file and on 'Go' signal, the first patrol member races 40 feet to the bag and picks a card randomly from the bag, reads it aloud, does the task (to the satisfaction of the station monitor), and races back to tag the next Scout. All patrol members must complete a task. Patrols that have fewer than eight members will need some members to go twice until all 10 tasks have been completed. This event will be scored by average patrol time. Example Tasks: Crab walk back to start line, 10 jumping jacks hops, 2 sit ups, recite the Scout Law, tie a square knot, gunny sack race back to start line, eat two saltines and whistle,.and Timed event. Maximum of 10 minutes. Score - Shortest time gets the highest score (#patrols=#pts). A pass can be bought for 5 points. 20 points will be awarded for participation. No points for time if not completed within 10 min (can still get the 20 participation points). 7) Knots up in here! 7 min Equipment provided 4 ropes, 2 poles tied between trees, 2 watches Procedure: Given a list of 10 knots (overhand, square, clove hitch, two-half hitches, tautline hitch, timber hitch, sheet bend, bowline, sheep shank, figure 8). Give the scouts 5 minutes to practice and decide who is tying which knot. Each scout must tie at least one knot. Given 2 minutes the scouts will tie as many of the knots correctly as they can. Score - 2 points for each correctly tied knot within time. BONUS 10 points for all 10 knots correctly tied within time! 8) Fizzy Bucket Obstacle Course 5 min Equipment provided: 2 Buckets of water, Alka Seltzer (AS) tablets, foil boats, 2 stop watches Procedure: Scouts of the patrol are stationed along set course (Waters Amphitheater). Each scout must carry the bucket of water with an Alka Seltzer floating in it for a portion of the course without getting the AS wet. Scout s positions on the course will be determined by the event monitor. Best time for the entire patrol with the AS intact and dry wins Scoring (#patrols=#pts) plus: AS intact/dry 10 pts. AS damp but still floating 2 pts. AS dissolved/sunk 0pts. No points for time if not completed within 5 min (can still get the AS points). 9) Skiing Accident 8 min Equipment provided 4 poles, 2 green tarps, bandage material, splint material, misc nonsensical material, 2 stop watches, snow (flour) Procedure: One scout chosen by station grader to have broken leg (lower leg) and eye injury. 1 minute to prep. Scouts are in avalanche zone the next avalanche is in 7 min. Scouts will splint the leg properly, bandage the eye(s) properly, and make a litter to carry the injured and his and the rest of the patrol gear safely out of the avalanche zone along a course without the patient falling off. Timed event. Score - Shortest time gets the highest score (#patrols=#pts) plus 5 points for making a litter w/o help; 1 point for making a litter w/ help after 2 minutes; Deduct 5 points if the patient falls from the litter. Deduct 5 points if still in the avalanche zone after 7 min. 5 points for properly immobilizing the broken leg. 2 points if splinted but moved during the process. 0 points if splint is inadequate to immobilize the broken leg. 5 points for properly padding and covering the eye. 2 points if covered but not to adequately. 0 points if bandage fails. 20 points will be awarded for patrol participation.

9 10) Direction Hunt 7 min Equipment provided: 12 tall stakes with arrows that are pointing to distant landmarks or clearly identified objects (large tree, large rock, etc.). Each stake has a # identifier and different point values. 2 Compass, 2 pencil, and score sheet for each patrol, watch Procedure: Given an area with the stakes in view. The stakes are numbered and have various point values. Higher points are further or harder. At GO the patrol runs together as a patrol to the different stakes at their choosing. At each stake a scout will identify the landmark/object that the arrow on the stake is pointing, determine the azimuth with the compass, and write it down on the score sheet along with his initials. The Scouts then move to the next stake and determine the next degree direction. The patrol has 7 minutes to get all the points and be back at the starting point. Each patrol member MUST determine at least one azimuth. Scoring: The patrol must get the correct degree directions (within 10 degrees) in order to get the points for that stake. A patrol that gets all 12 stakes correct will get 20 bonus points. A patrol that is not back at the start point at the end of 7 minutes loses 1 point for every second until they return to the start point. The patrol loses 20 points if every member does not attempt to do an azimuth. 11) Distance and Accuracy Throw 10 min Equipment provided: 100 Meter tape measure, 2 Footballs Junior-size, 4 Tennis balls, calculator, plywood target Part A - Accuracy Throw Equipment: 2 Junior-size Footballs, target at 10 yds. Procedure: Each scout in the patrol participates. Each scout gets one practice throw and two throws for score. The target will be the opening in a sheet of plywood. Members of the patrol will help retrieve the balls. 5 min maximum time. Scoring: 10 points will be awarded for each throw goes through the target. 5 points for hitting the plywood. Final score will be determined by the total score of the patrol divided by the number of patrol members. Part B - Distance Throw Equipment: 6 Tennis balls, measuring tape Procedure: Each scout in the patrol participates. Each scout gets one practice throw and two throws for score. Each competitor s longest single throw is used to determine the order of finish. A foot fault (going past the foul line during the throw) counts as one of the two throwing attempts but has no distance recorded. If a ball lands outside the foul lines, it will be charged as a throw, but will not count for distance. Members of the patrol will help retrieve the balls. 5 min maximum time Scoring: Final score will be determined by the total score of the patrol divided by the number of patrol members. 12) Lashing and Lifting 10 min Equipment provided - 16 poles, 8 ropes for lashing, two weights on hooks; 2 watches Procedure: Within 10 minutes Scouts will correctly lash two tripods over designated points and a pole sturdy enough to support a designated weight for 10 seconds. Scoring - 10 points for each of three correctly completed lashings. 5 points for supporting the weight for 10 seconds (two attempts). Subtract 1 point for each 15 seconds over 10 minutes. 13) Eating Healthy Equipment provided two fire barrels, an established bed of coals, two clean sticks. An orange, a raw egg, and a raw (dough) biscuit for each patrol Procedure: Without being given guidance by the station monitor on how to do it, scouts must eat at least 80% of the inside of the orange. Scouts must cook the egg until not runny and eat it. Scouts must cook the biscuit until not doughy and eat it. Consuming raw egg or dough will no be allowed and the patrol will be disqualified. Check with the event monitor before eating cooked items. Score 5 points for scouts eating at least 80% of the orange contents. 10 points for cooking the egg and eating it. 10 points for cooking a biscuit (minus 2 pts for charring)

10 14) Lumberjack Run and Roll 13 min Equipment provided: 2 Stop watches, 2 dragging logs, 2 cutting log, 2 2-man saws, 2 sawhorses, 2 ropes, target area Procedure: On Go the patrol will tie a Timber hitch on a log. The patrol will then run, dragging the log, to the sawhorse. The patrol will use the 2man saw to cut a wheel off the provided log. Every member of the patrol must participate in the cutting. Then the wheel is rolled into a target area from a line.multiple tries allowed until it is achieved and time ends. Timed event fastest time gets the highest score. 13 minutes maximum time. Scoring (#patrols=#pts) Deduct 5 points for incorrect timber hitch, or if it comes undone while dragging. Deduct 5 points for every member that does not participate. Not getting the wheel into the target before time limit results in no points. S/F Brown 3:30pm Equipment provided: Stop watch, course monitors, finish line attendees, camera (finish) Course: Start at storm shelter, to BMX course, up thru Waters, around rappelling tower, over to new shooting range (?), return to finish line at back of storm shelter. Time called out but not recorded. Procedure: Individual run. Individual recognition at the campfire. Scoring fastest time wins. Individual Bronze, Silver, Gold medals; 1 st 40pts for his patrol, 2 nd 30pts, 3 rd 20pts, 4 th 10pts
