Welcome back for another round up of what s happening around the association. I hope you ve all been enjoying the beautiful sunny weather we ve been having for the beginning of the season. We ve re graded our Saturday Morning Competition after Week 3 and with a few changes the competition is now in full swing. Net Set Go st and 2nd Year started with plenty of fresh faced young players keen to get started. Whether you re new to the game or have a sister/brother who play it s great to get out on the courts and (as most new players do at the start) follow the ball around like a magnet.. Life Member recipient Faye Ramage 203 By the end of the season it s amazing the improvement of skill levels the players have made. It s great to look out and see so many pink Net Set Go backpacks and netballs going around. All Abilities Program started on May 4th under the enthusiastic hands of Mary Verdon and her helpers. Mary and her team have done a lot of hard work in the off season to get to word out there for people to come along and try out the program. It s great to see the players from last season come back as well as some new faces. Life Membership Congratulations to Faye Ramage who received Life Membership on Saturday 27th April. Faye has spent many Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings down at the association over the years and she can be found cooking those delicious egg and bacon rolls you can smell in the mornings. 2 Wednesday Finals Time Night Competition As the weather starts turning colder we begin our first round of finals. Section Solo the 7/U Rep sitting undefeated take on Combos while Girls Night play Fanta the 5/U Rep team which will be a closely contested game. Section 2 Very even section which could go any way. Swifts will take on Dynamite and Romas will play Mustix. Only 2 points separating st to 4th. Section 3 Even though Mr Black sits a game and a half above Escape, Escape have a higher percentage which will see a great game. Bruck Titans play Charisma. Section 4 Tenacity take on one of the two rep teams in finals in this section Coke. Avengers will take on Pepsi. It was a close competition with many finals not decided until the last game.. We will start our next competition in early August and will be trialling a direct debit system. Check out our website and facebook page for all the details. It s great to have an award for us to be able to show our appreciation and let people know it doesn t go un-noticed. Week winner Jude Edgeworde Who s generous work around the association when she sees we need help and working in the canteen when teams on duty are short is always a god send. Week 2 winner Mandy Allan Who s help registration nights, umpiring Saturday mornings as well as her umpiring at Representative Tournaments and feed back at General Meetings is invaluable. 3 All Abilities Program Saturday the 4th of May we started our All Abilities Competition. It was a great success. Our volunteers Kristy Vearing, Donna Robinson and I had so much fun as did the people playing. We had Grade 5 St Bernard s playing against them, They were very helpful and loved showing the people the right way to play netball, Really looking forward to enjoying the session and helping the All Abilities enjoy their netball. Breast Cancer Fundraiser We would like to thank everyone who helped out with our Turn Pink for Breast Cancer morning. It was great to see teams playing with the pink netballs and bibs. We raised $ which has been donated to the Breast Cancer Network. We still have some pink wrist bands left over if you would like to buy one. $3.00 each at the canteen. Umpiring Anyone interested in umpiring please come and see us at the office to put your name down. We re always looking for umpires to help out Wednesday night and Saturday mornings. If you haven t umpired in a while come to a couple of our training sessions to get up to date. They re very casual and run by very experienced local umpires. They can answer all your questions... The teams you lost to in the early rounds will be totally different games the second time around. After the wash out game on Saturday st June, Round 7 we ve decided to replay that round and delete the final round. This way all teams will get to play every team in their section at least once. The Dinosaurs, Pulse and Thunderclap and Yarrawonga Stars all remain undefeated in their respective sections after 6 rounds. There are many teams with just a couple of losses so the second half of the season will be closely contested. It s great to see the new bibs our new sponsors Wangaratta Motor Group donated brightening up the courts each week. Make sure all new players are registered. If your team is short you are NOT allowed to play a Grade 3 or 4 Net Set Go player up in your team. You may get someone to fill in who s NOT already registered with Wangaratta Netball Association in a team. You must pay a voucher BEFORE the game for this person to play. These are available in the clubrooms. If you play an unregistered player you will: Forfeit the game. Lose 2 points per unregistered player. What positions have you held on WNA committee? Volunteered to do registrations office which I did for a few years, Vice President then President. We thank you for volunteering your time. What do you enjoy doing? I love my netball especially umpiring. I also love my ballroom dancing and being involved with kids especially teenagers. 2nd year of involvement with Deb training has been a highlight for me. What do you hope for WNA? I want to help the committee put Wangaratta Netball Association in a stronger position than it currently sits. I want it to strive for best practice as a sporting facility. We also introduce Network Video who generously donate a voucher every week so each team can give out an award. Make sure you let them know you re from Wangaratta Netball Association when you go in there to show your appreciation. Without sponsors like these the netball association would struggle to run so efficiently and attract so many wonderful families and supporters every Saturday Morning and Wednesday nights.
