1 2014 Wangaratta Netball Association Inc. PO Box 830, Wangaratta Vic Phone: Like us on Facebook No. 2 Date: June 2014 President Debbie Ravida Secretary Jackie Seymour Treasurer Rodney Dean Saturday Netball Megan O Keefe Wednesday Netball-Sue Anderson Net Set Go Cheryl Peters All Abilities-Mary Verdon Rep Netball Cheryl Peters Umpires Fran Doig Canteen Faye Ramage/Val McGregor Public Officer Debbie Ravida General Committee Donna Robinson, Aileen Sanders, Ann Lenten, Wendy McCormack, Jennie Annett, Tammy Smith Well...it has been a huge month in netball. Thank you to everyone who supported out PINK DAY fundraiser which was held to raise money to help find a cure for Breast Cancer. Even a delay with rain could not dampen the dressing up and we loved seeing all the creative ideas teams, players and umpires came up with. It is always well supported as it effects so many families. Congratulations to the winners of best dressed prizes. Report inside. Next was our Annual Tournament held on May 25 th which is huge day for committee making sure the day runs smoothly. A big thank you to all the hard working committee on all the work carried out before and after the event. Report inside. Next we were notified of National Netball Day which is the first time this has run. Teams were encouraged to dress in BLUE for the day and people could enter a competition to win prizes with their photos. We were lucky enough to win a netball prize pack and look forward to it arriving. PINK DAY FUNDRAISER Great effort by Glenrowan girls who looked very pink in stockings, hair spray and socks. Certainly could not miss them on the court. Big thanks to the Galen College girls who helped blow up around 300 balloons for us to hand out. We could not have managed it without you. Thanks again for everyone who supported the event. All Abilities has been going steady and they have three more weeks to run. If anyone would like to help out go and see Mary Verdon at 10.00am on court 1. We are over halfway through the season. The Friday night Net Set Go Tier 1 is running beautifully and the children's skills and understanding of the drills are improving every week. The Net Set Go Tier 2 players have loved playing the new format of more games and their enthusiasm is contagious. This week is the final sessions for Net Set Go and I am sure the children will be very disappointed it is coming to an end. Saturday morning competition teams have only four games left until finals. Ladders are changing all the time and there are plenty of teams who can still make finals. Wednesday Night Competition have started finals. A couple of very cold weeks but it didn t stop all the keen netballers. There was plenty of great action from young and old. After this week there will be two weeks off for school holidays. Take care and take time to relax. Netball will restart Saturday 19th July. Look forward to seeing you all back as we head into the final part of the season. Jackie Seymour Editor

These are available in the clubrooms. Not Netball Victoria Registered $16 Yes Netball Victoria Registered $ 7 You can only play on 4 vouchers. Then you will need to register to continue. Each team must supply their own umpire to represent your team. If you do NOT supply an umpire your team will lose points. Sports power Wangaratta Awards Go and see Russell and his team. They will give you plenty of great ideas for you to spend your voucher on. The options are endless... Saturday Morning 2014 After Round 9 Wangaratta Motor Group Section 1 shows Diamonds just ahead of Pump Yarra Pidgeons and Rovettes are hot on their tails. Franks Footwear Section 2 sees Dynamite just ahead of Kelly Tigers. Moyhu K/V and Hawkettes are just behind with the rest of the section still able to make finals. Hume Building Society Section 3 has Neon clear a couple of games on top with the rest of the section also fighting for a place in the finals. Garry Nash Section 4 also has Bombdiggadees clear on top with two Yarrawonga teams fighting for second spot. Still plenty of time for teams to claim a place Network Video Section 5 shows a closer section with Pitch Black just holding off Warriors and Dynamitey. Only a couple of games separating most teams. Sports Power Section 6 has Eclipse just clear from Green Peas with plenty of teams putting pressure on behind them. Enjoy your holidays after this weekend and look forward to seeing you all fresh and ready to head into the final few games. Network Video Wangaratta Awards As the days are getting colder there is nothing better than snuggling up on the couch with a DVD, snack, blanket and friends or family. And if you re lucky enough to have won a voucher you can use that and get a couple of movies. We would like to offer a huge thankyou to Wangaratta Marathon and Fun Run Justin and Sharon Scholz for their generous donation to our association. $500 for equipment for our Saturday Morning competition. $5000 to go towards new Representative Uniforms. 3 All Abilities Program 2014 Mary Verdon All Abilities Co-ordinator. Mary with Donna Robinson are all ready to go with another season. If you need anymore information or would like to help out contact Mary on We are onto our 6 th game and there are 11 players rotating into different positions every week. We are really enjoying the great relationship we have formed. We have organised a uniform, which we are really excited about and players will be able to wear it Saturday morning as well as on our excursions to Shepparton. The players will look very smart wearing it. Pictures next edition. We have some amazing girls from different schools who volunteer on Saturday to help support the players. I would like to thank them as we could not have the fun and play a game without them. We play 10am-11am on court 1. Anyone is welcome to come on board to help. If you are interested in being involved or in taking over the position as organiser of All Abilities contact Mary Verdon. It is a lot of fun. Representative Report 2014 Cheryl Peters Representative Netball Co-ordinator We have had a very busy month with our teams competing at both Shepparton and Albury tournaments. Shepparton was a huge day with most of our teams playing 9-10 games. Our 17/under side made it through to the grand final and lost by 5 goals to rival Albury. The girls played hard all day and did our association proud with their effort in the grand final. Our other teams battled hard all day and missed out on finals. However, most only lost 1 game for the day, but the way the finals were structured, that was enough to see them not go through. A huge day for all involved. Thanks to our umpires and coaches for all their efforts on the day. Albury tournament saw our 13/under side make the first final however beater by 2 points by Echuca. Our 15/under side also made the first final going down to Wodonga by 1 point. Another successful tournament and we seem to be getting more teams into finals each tournament. We have struggled with injuries however our girls just keep going and are working towards finishing strongly at the Zone tournament on 15 th June.

4 Net Set Go Tier 1 & 2 We are down to the last week of the season and the participants will have their breakup on 27 th June. When they finish playing they will receive their medals from Heather Harding who was the initial instigator of getting the net set go program up and running at WNA. All the participants have been given their packs and it is rewarding to see all the kids so excited about their very own netballs. A very big thank you to Mary Verdon and Fran Doig for blowing up most of the 95+ netballs for the Tier 1 players. The coaches in Tier 1 all received coaching t-shirts and it helped bring a little polish and professionalism to our night. A big thank you to Jennie Annett who has planned the sessions and keeps everybody on track on Friday evenings. A big thank you to Commonwealth Bank who kindly donated 300 drink bottles for all our net set go participants. Thanks also to the Athletes Foot who sold us some bags at a bargain price for us to give to the players with their products in them. Feedback has been positive and we look forward to seeing the eager kids coming back next year. Tier 2 teams have continued to improve and have loved the new format of playing games. Thanks to all the coaches and parents who have helped umpire the games each week. Wednesday Night Competition GRAND FINAL After some strong finals the Grand Finals were held this week. Another cool night but there was plenty of great action. Thanks to all the umpires and scorers. Congratulations to the Representative Teams who featured in three sections.
