Nine games all conference matchups are on the docket in the men s Western Collegiate Hockey Association for the upcoming weekend of Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12, headlined by a two-game set in Madison featuring league-leading and No. 1-ranked Minnesota at Wisconsin. The streaking Golden Gophers (9-1-0, WCHA), winners of four straight and with only a single loss coming by one goal at home to non-conference opponent Vermont on Oct. 23, will face-off against the Badgers (4-5-1, WCHA) at the Kohl Center (15,325) at Friday night and on Saturday evening. The second series of the season against the two rivals will occur on the final weekend of the regular season March 2-3 in Minneapolis. In addition to the Minnesota at Wisconsin set, there will be three other two-game WCHA series and one single conference game on Saturday. On Saturday evening at, No. 12-ranked Denver (3-3-2, WCHA) and No. 3-ranked Colorado College (5-1-0, WCHA) will renew their rivalry in a single contest at the Pioneers Magness Arena (6,026). UAA and UMD conclude their four-game regular season series on Feb. 3-4 at Sullivan Arena; the return engagement for BSU vs UNO will be Feb. 3-4 at CenturyLink Center in Omaha; Minnesota State and St. Cloud State do not meet again during the regular season; remaining games in the CC vs DU series are Dec. 2 in Colorado Springs, Feb. 3 in Denver and Feb. 4 in Colorado Springs. Idle from play this week are No. 15-ranked Michigan Tech (6-3-1, WCHA) and No. 20-ranked North Dakota (3-6-1, WCHA). The race for the WCHA regular season championship and MacNaughton Cup consists of 168 games, with each league club playing 28 contests (14 home and 14 away). Of the 17 two-game WCHA series played through Nov. 6, 10 have resulted in sweeps. In conference action this past weekend (Nov. 4-5), Minnesota swept North Dakota for four points, Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State each posted a win and tie for three-point series, and two series ended in splits. At Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis last Friday, host Minnesota won 2-0 over the Sioux as goaltender Kent Patterson earned his fifth shutout of the season with 24 saves and center Nick Bjugstad scored the game-winner on a power-play at 12:44 of the second period. On Saturday, UND left winger Rocco Grimaldi gave his team a 2-1 lead at 8:39 of period two before the Gophers stormed back to win 3-2 with two goals in the final 6:00 of the third from right winger Nick Larson at 13:56 and left winger Kyle Rau at 19:14. Up at John MacInnes Student Ice Arena in Houghton last weekend, host Michigan Tech gained a 1-0 shutout win over Minnesota State on Friday to run it s home unbeaten streak this season to seven games with Josh Robinson stopping all 29 shots on goal and left winger Ryan Furne scoring a power-play, game-winner at 14:22 of the first. The visiting Mavericks, however, powered back on Saturday for a 6-3 victory over MTU as left winger Jean-Paul Lafontaine scored twice and added an assist, linemate and centerman Matt Leitner had two goals, and defenseman Zach Palmquist had three assists. Last Saturday, Hanowski s third goal of the series gave SCSU a 3-1 lead early in the third period before the Badgers rallied back for a 3-3 (ot) tie on back-to-back power-play goals from right winger Matt Paape at 15:41 and blueliner Justin Schultz with an extra attacker at 19:20. In Denver, visiting Minnesota Duluth took home three points from the host DU Pioneers at Magness Arena by virtue of a 3-3 (ot) draw last Friday and a 4-0 triumph last Saturday. In game one, Denver led 3-1 in the second period following a goal from right winger Daniel Doremus at 3:33 but the Bulldogs fought back to gain the tie on power-play goals from left winger Travis Oleksuk at 15:45 of period two and defenseman Brady Lamb at 15:55 of the third. In game two, UMD goaltender Kenny Reiter came up with a 29-save shutout, Oleksuk tallied twice and Lamb added 1-1=2 in the 4-0 triumph. And at CenturyLink Center in Omaha, host Nebraska Omaha and Colorado College split their two-game league set. The Mavericks prevailed 7-5 last Friday night as right winger Matt White had four points (2g, 2a) and left winger Terry Broadhurst (1g, 2a) and defenseman Michael Young (3a) each had three. The visiting Tigers gained the split on Saturday, however, behind three man-advantage

3 goals, four points from center Nick Dineen (1g, 3a) and 45 saves from goaltender Josh Thorimbert. Outside the WCHA last weekend, Bemidji State went on the road and earned a series split against CCHA-leader Lake Superior State. The Beavers won 3-2 (ot) last Friday on center Jordan George s winner at 4:19 of the extra session before falling 2-1 last Saturday evening. Through games of Nov. 6, WCHA-member teams are a combined (.579) in 38 non-conference games. Conference teams are vs the Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA), vs the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA), vs ECAC Hockey (ECACH) and vs the Hockey East Association (HEA). Looking ahead to the weekend of Nov , Friday-Saturday WCHA series will have Nebraska Omaha at Denver, Colorado College hosting Wisconsin, Minnesota Duluth hosting Minnesota State, Michigan Tech traveling to Alaska Anchorage and St. Cloud State and Minnesota playing a home-and-home set (@ SCSU UM Saturday). On Saturday and Sunday, Bemidji State will entertain North Dakota, with game two being a 5:07 pm CT start. 4 November 4, 2011 Minnesota s Kent Patterson Named National College Hockey Player of the Month Golden Gophers Kyle Rau Tabbed as Rookie of the Month WAKEFIELD, Mass. University of Minnesota goaltender Kent Patterson, who posted a record, a 1.74 goals-against average, a.939 saves percentage and a nation s best four shutouts in eight starts between the pipes, is the Hockey Commissioners Association National Division I Player of the Month for October. A 6-1, 196-pound senior from Plymouth, Minn., Patterson began the season with three straight home shutouts, blanking Sacred Heart twice (9-0 and 6-0 on Oct. 7 & 8) and Vermont once (6-0 on Oct. 21). He then picked up his first road shutout on Oct. 28 with a 5-0 triumph at league rival Alaska Anchorage. A perfect on the road, Patterson s seven victory-month also includes a WCHA sweep at defending national champion Minnesota Duluth on Oct when he posted back-to-back, career-high, 46-save performances. Named WCHA co-defensive Player of the Week twice in the month, he surrendered just nine even-strength goals in eight games, with five coming on the power-play. Patterson s four shutouts in October make him the third recorded Minnesota goaltender to shutout an opponent more than three times in the same month by himself, joining Robb Stauber in 1988 and George Clausen in February of His four shutouts also are one shy of the UM season record of five, set by Stauber in when he won the Hobey Baker Memorial Award. Kyle Rau, a freshman forward at the University of Minnesota, is the choice as HCA National Rookie of the Month for October. A 5-8, 172-pound freshman from Eden Prairie, Minn., Rau produced 13 scoring points (7g, 6a) in eight games in the month of October, notching at least one point in seven games. He had six multiple-point games and scored at least one goal in six of those eight games. Rau, who is the team s first line left wing, leads all freshmen nationally in both scoring and goals, has four power-play goals, three game-winners and is tied for the team lead with a +12 plus/minus rating. He was named the WCHA Rookie of the Month on Oct. 18 after helping the Golden Gophers to a road sweep over defending national champion Minnesota Duluth. USA Hockey announced the 21-man roster for its 2011 U.S. Men s Select Team that will compete at the Deutschland Cup from Nov in Munich, Germany. All 21 players on the roster currently are participating in elite European leagues in the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland. Named to the squad were nine WCHA-member team alums in Noah Clarke (CC), Brandon Bochenski (UND), Kyle Klubertanz (UW), Brian Salcido (CC), Ryan Lasch (SCSU), Marty Sertich (CC), Steve Wagner (MSU), Andy Wozniewski (UW) and Barry Tallackson (UM). Bulldogs University of Minnesota Duluth The defending NCAA champion Bulldogs will put their six-game unbeaten streak (4-0-2) on the line this weekend when they host the University of Alaska Anchorage in a pair of WCHA engagements It marks the start of a four-game homestand for UMD, which, after a Nov. 19 clash with Minnesota State University, Mankato, will not return to AMSOIL Arena until Jan. 20 UMD skated out of Denver with three of a possible four points last weekend following up a 3-3 draw Friday night with a 4-0 victory over the eighth-ranked Pioneer the next evening Three different Bulldogs scored in the opener, including senior defenseman Scott Kishel, who also added an assist, as UMD rallied from a 3-1 deficit and outshot the Pioneers on the night On Saturday, senior center Travis Oleksuk collected a pair of goals and senior goaltender Kenny Reiter rejected all 29 shots Denver sent his way for his second shutout in three games During it six-game unbeaten streak, the Bulldogs have outscored the opposition 21-9 while killing off 24 of 25 power-play attempts (96.0%) With a goal and two assist over the weekend in Denver, senior team captain Jack Connolly hiked his career scoring harvest to a nation-leading 150 points (50g, 100a) That moved the Hobey Baker Memorial Award finalist into 20th place on UMD s all-time scoring charts, two points behind the No. 19 occupant, center Tim Stapleton ( ) and thee points behind Monty Jones ( ) Connolly, the country s top returning scorer from a year ago (he finished third among NCAA skaters with a career-high 59 points), has been a model of consistency when it comes to offensive contributions Case in Point: Since the start of the season, he has been held pointless for more than one game only once (Jan. 23 and Jan. 29, 2010) Connolly, who has suited up in all 135 outings over the past four seasons, became just the 14th Bulldog ever to reach the 100 mark for a career The current owner of an eightgame scoring streak, he is second in the WCHA in overall power-play points with ninth, is tied for sixth in assists (9) and is tied for seventh in points (13) Connolly, a member of the All-WCHA First Team and WCHA All-Academic Team the past two winters, is just the second two-time All-American the Bulldogs have ever had in their lineup (defenseman Norm Maciver, in , was the other) This past Saturday night in Denver, UMD was held without a power-play goal and failed to outscore the opposition for the first time this season Senior Travis Oleksuk has racked up a WCHA-leading nine goals this season, three of which came at the expense of Denver last weekend The Thunder Bay, Ont., product, who is a plus-6 on the year, has picked up at least one point in all but one of UMD s 10 outings this season Oleksuk and junior left winger Mike Seidel have combined to score 38.9% of UMD s goals Seidel has five tallies to his credit, including a team-leading three on the power-play, but has been blanked in that department in each of the past four games UMD is now unbeaten in 22 of its 27 games away from Duluth since the start of the season (16-5-6) Kenny Reiter s 4-0 shutout last Saturday night against the Pioneers was the eighth of his career, which is one shy of the school record held by All-American Alex Stalock Reiter, blanked the Pioneers for the final 101:09 of the weekend and, for the second time in three games, stopped a penalty shot (by Denver s Jason Zucker with 4:30 to go in the second period Saturday) Over the course of UMD s six-game unbeaten streak, he has crafted a 1.46 goals-against average and a.944 saves percentage in six starts Reiter, a three-time WCHA All-Academic Team pick, has compiled a nifty career record with the Bulldogs That translates into a.625 winning percentage, the second best mark in club history behind All-American Rick Kosti s.753 figure ( between ) Going back to the start of the 2011 NCAA playoffs, the Pittsburgh, Pa., native has lost just twice in his last 13 appearances (9-2-2) After giving up eight power-plays in 18 opportunities to the opposition during the first two weekends of the season, UMD has allowed just one goal (at Providence College on Oct. 22) in 25 man-advantage chances since Senior Brady Lamb, who will bring a personal-best four-game scoring streak into Friday night s clash with Alaska Anchorage, ranks third among
