All Madison County 4-H members who exhibited a STEAM Sewing & Textile project or Shopping with Style project at the Madison County 4-H Show are encouraged to model in the 4-H Fashion Revue at the Madison County Fair. This event will take place on Thursday, July 26, at 7 p.m., outside in the Main Pavilion. Please plan to arrive early enough so that you can be dressed and ready to go on stage no later than 6:45 p.m. If you chose to construct a non-garment item such as a pillow, or tote bag, please plan to model your project, but choose your outfit to go along with the item you constructed. For example: if you constructed a tote bag you may wish to dress in school attire carrying your tote bag. 4-H members participating in the Fashion Revue will be eligible to compete for prizes which will be awarded the night of the event. Prizes for the 4-H Fashion Revue are donated from Madison County Farm Bureau, businesses and individuals in Highland, and the surrounding area. If you did not turn a narrative in on judging day, please it to Laura Ohren ohren@illinois.edu by Friday, July 13 th.

We want to make sure there is plenty of room for the project displays. Contact Laura at ohren@illinois.edu UPCOMING INFORMATION/DATES Secretary & Treasurer books are due September 15, Please make sure all of the meeting minutes are included and signed in the Secretaries books and that all of the Treasurer books have 5 (five) signatures (4-H Club Treasurer, 4-H Club Leader and 3 (three) Fiscal Review Committee members who are not to be members of your club). Extension Education Foundation The Madison County Extension Education Foundation will offer scholarships to 4-H members of Madison County. This award is to encourage and support 4-H member s attendance at a 4-H conference, camp, or other 4-H opportunity. The Foundation will be offering five half fee scholarships (each not to exceed $100) and will reimburse the chosen applicant following attendance of the event. Individuals can apply for multiple opportunities, but will be limited to one scholarship per 4-H year. The application and personal reference documents are on the Unit website. 5 Page 5 County Corner Madison County Ethan McDowell is 11 years old. He is a member of the Hooves, Paws, and Claws 4-H group. Ethan became interested in the Got Your Six Organization after Check this hearing a presentation at a 4-H 4-Her out! meeting. He had been wanting a dog and after finding the perfect Golden Retriever he wanted to start training where the Got Your Six Support dogs trained. Got Your Six in group that trains service and therapy dogs. Got your Six is the military term for I got your back. Ethan s dog, Ace, was born January 9, He came to live with Ethan when he was 9 weeks old. Soon afterwards, Ace graduated beginner classes at 4-months old, and an intermediate class at 6- months old. He passed his first AKC Canine Good Citizens test at 7 months old, and then the Advanced test in March After 10 supervised visits he became fully Certified in April With this certification Ace can go to nursing homes, hospitals, schools, other events, etc.to visit. Ethan and Ace are the only child and dog team with Got Your Six. All of the other members are adults. A therapy dog s job is to make people happy and relaxed. Understanding 4-H premiums In the past, the Illinois Department of Ag has provided funds to local Illinois 4-H members in the forms of premiums (cash prizes) for participation in 4-H shows and exhibitions. We currently have no guarantee that those funds will be provided. We treasure each of our 4-H families and know that you make a financial investment in your 4-H project work. We hope you continue to take pride in your 4-H learning and continue to participate fully in the 4-H program. As you are aware, we have no control on the actions of Illinois government. Celebrating volunteers at the fair If you re a volunteer leader, be sure to check in at the Information booth at the Orr Building Aug during the 4-H General Show to receive a free gift! Foundation Hall of Fame ceremony set The Illinois 4-H Foundation will honor one volunteer leader from each county at a ceremony during the Illinois State Fair. The celebration begins at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14 as part of Ag Day at the fair right before the Sale of Champions activities begin. Supporters and families of the recipients are welcome to attend.
