4 "Your Source for Success" I would like to welcome everyone interested in Red Brangus, Red Angus or Angus Plus, to our Fifth Annual Source for Success Sale. I hope you all have had a good year. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by Hurricane Katrina. We are optimists and believe the best is yet to come.this is particularly true if you have been selecting the best genetics.we don't all live in the same environment. But it is much easier for cattle raised under harsh conditions to prosper with lush conditions. I think this another first rate set of cattle. While all the cattle in this sale won t fit everyone, we do feel that the genetic variety we have for you to choose from will allow you to get what you need. We strive to produce functional, efficient cattle. In our operations how many of us can really afford to pour all that feed into our cattle? All of the cattle being sold,were born, bred and raised at R2 Ranch. One year, I hope to be able say that all of the dams were bred here as well. I am very excited about the future of red cattle, in particular those with some ear. I think we are making great progress at developing the fertile, heat-tolerant, easy-keeping, high-grading red cattle, which we all need. All of our cattle work in our central Texas conditions.they are not pampered. Our cattle continue to thrive with less input. Other than the sale cattle, they only get grass, grass hay, mineral and MIX-30. It hasn't been the easiest year for many of us. Doug Marburger left R2 Ranch to start up a new business, Windmill Ranch. Doug is growing out our weaned calves to yearlings for us.we all miss Doug on the ranch and Doug and Gay in the office, but slowly we are getting our hands around the work that they were doing. Both the sale bulls and the open sale heifers have been on light feed for about 60 days prior to the sale.people seem to prefer cattle with a little more condition than just their working clothes. But let us know what you think. Send us ; visit our website; give us feedback.we always like to hear more from our customers. We don t sell heifers private treaty. I know that has lost us some show heifer sales for children that need to use a scramble certificate in the spring. I don t think it s fair to let any buyer go out in the pasture and pick. Everyone should have the same chance. We sold some heifers at our Junior Jackpot this spring and think that worked out well for all concerned. We will be continuing our Junior Jackpot Futurity again next year.the rules will remain the same. I will post them on our website shortly. Next year s Jackpot will be held on Saturday April 22nd. We will slightly rearrange the prize money once again, keeping over $16,000 in prizes. We will offer $75 for second in class, $200 for first in class, $400 for Reserve Division, $750 for Division winners, $1,500 for Reserve Showmanship, $2,000 for Reserve Grand Champion, $3,000 for Showmanship Champion, and $4,000 for Grand Champion Heifer. I need to thank many people as always: my wife and daughters for putting up with the time that the cattle keep me away from them; Bob Toussaint and his daughter Sara, who take care of the ranch in Fischer and the cattle there; Bob's wife, Ann and daughter Sara who are now doing the paperwork in the office.tommy Camacho and Pedro Tello, who have worked at our Staples ranch since long before it was ours; everyone does a whole lot more than what I listed above. Females shown in the futurity were purchased from R2 Ranch. Charolette Atkinson of Wharton, Texas showed both the grand champion and reserve grand champion entries. She earned $5,000 and $2,500 for her wins respectively. She was also awarded a Gist buckle from R2 Ranch owner, Richard Luciano for each champion. Division winners were Lawrence Padalecki, Jr., St. Hedwig, Texas; Cameron McConathy, Angelton, Texas; and Charolette Atkinson. Reserve division winners were: Charolette Atkinson; and Dylan Valusek, Rosharon, Texas. Division winners received $1,000 and reserve winners garnered $500 each. Class winners earned $200 and $75 was given for second place in each class. In the showmanship competition, Dustin Valusek, Rosharon, Texas was selected champion showman and was presented a check for $3,500 as well as a belt buckle. Lorna Pelton of College Station, Texas served as judge of the Jackpot Futurity and the showmanship contest. Dynaband received one star for the marbling gene and two for the tenderness gene from GeneStar. Glacier Mountaineer 160 was purchased at the NILE in Billings, Montana as a bull calf. He has two copies of both the marbling and tenderness GeneStar genes. He has a wonderful phenotype. He was the smallest herd sire on the ranch, but he is siring performance. Leachman Bandito Cinco 1780H is still my favorite of the six flushmates of Eleanor x Robin Hood that Leachman sold for an average of $19,000. Cinco s EPDs keep getting better. He is below average for birth weight, while being in the top 10% for weaning weight and 5% for yearling weight.he is also in the top 10% for ribeye area and he has two stars on the GeneStar marbling test. Loosli Cherokee Teton 316N was the high selling bull at Buffalo Creek Red Angus 2004 Spring Sale. He was purchased by R2 Ranch in partnership with Buffalo Creek and came to Texas last fall. His service is in our sale this year. RF 5-Star Gold 4550P was the top-selling Red Angus bull at Pharo Cattle Company's Harrison, Nebraska bull sale this April. He is short (less than a frame 4) but thick and easy-keeping. I think he will add great performance on straight grass in rugged conditions. Next year you will see his calves and service in the sale. Off Percentage Sires Mr. H.S. New Style 155/21 is the best looking Red Brangus bull I have had the pleasure to own. He is a 7/16 Brahman so his use is somewhat limited as we try to stick to or create exact percentages. But he sires performance and style. Quarter Blood Sires M&M Monument 14/0 is a bull that we sold to Brazil, but they never shipped him and we have natural service use. I like his phenotype a lot, and last year we sold one daughter and now there are several and his service in this sale. You will see more from him in the future. M&M Crusader 548/0 is a 1/4 blood bull who was Reserve Grand Champion in Houston in He sires smaller mature cattle than 2002 s Grand Champion, M&M Headstart 548/9. Both 548/0 and 548/9 have a place in our program. 548/9 puts more growth (both to weaning and maturity in cattle that need it.) And 548/0 moderates those that need it. Half Blood Sires M&M Trademark 768/9 is my favorite 1/2 blood sire today. We sold him to Australia several years ago, but we still have more than 1,000 straws of semen and are using him heavily. Trademark works, he settled cows consistently, he produces calves with growth and eye appeal. Mr R2 Extra Handsome 835N is our new junior resident 1/2 blood herd sire. I think he is the half blood that we need today. He got the cows bred as a 15 month old bull this spring. We'll see how his calves perform next year. If they are anything like their sire look out! Three-Eighths Herd Sires Sureway s Mr. Red Jack 213L is a bull that I bought half interest in late 2003 from Jim Hunt. Red Jack is a stout red bull that Charles Atkinson called to my attention. Our Red Jack calves look good and are crossing the Prototype daughters with Red Jack and vice versa. The results look as good as the sires. M&M Prototype 2400 is a 3/8 Brahman son of Ramrod s Gold 30/7 of moderate frame, who sires high performing cattle. He has two copies of the GeneStar tenderness gene. I like his calves a lot, he sired the 2004 ARBA Grand Champion bull in Houston. Mr. R2 Heaven Sent 140M is almost a 1/4 blood herd sire, we raised ourselves from Section M and Paleface genetics on the dam's side and the Larson Skyrocket Red Angus we bought from the Morrows. He has lit up the show circuit and gets the job done in the pasture too. Some of his first calves are here as is his service. 27

A. The following terms and conditions of sale are adapted from those recommended for use by all members of the Red Angus Association of America. B. Copies of those terms and conditions of sale are available upon request from the Red Angus Association of America. All cattle in this sale are offered according to the laws of the State of Texas.The right to bid, as provided under law, is reserved for all sellers unless otherwise announced. 1. BIDDING: The auctioneer in charge will settle any disputes as to bids, and his decision shall be final. 2. TERMS: All terms are cash or check unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made with sale management prior to sale. 3. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Any changes from information of any kind in this catalog will be announced from the auction box and such announcements shall take precedence. 8. BREEDING GUARANTEE: A. All animals are guaranteed by the seller to be breeders with the exception of, (1) Calves less than 12 months of age. a. Animals shown by the purchaser after the sale.the breeding guarantees, if any, shall be as agreed upon between seller and buyer. b. Gross negligence or willfulness misconduct on the part of the buyer. B.Bulls are guaranteed breeders if not allowed to run within herd until at least 14 months of age. Any bull that either, (1) settles one-third or more of the healthy cows he serves, (2) is the sire of 20 or more animals, or (3) settles cows by natural service and passes a fertility test made by a competent veterinarian during any six-month period of trial (provided for in paragraph 10B of Options and Privileges of Return or Adjustment, in this section) shall be considered a breeder. Any guarantees with respect to the ability to freeze semen shall be by separate agreement between buyer and seller. C. Safe in Calf Females have been examined by a competent veterinarian and are so guaranteed. D. Served females are believed to be in calf but are not so guaranteed. E. Pasture-bred females have been exposed but are not guaranteed to be safe in calf. F. Open females have not been served and are so guaranteed. 9. IDENTIFICATION: Seller offers each animal with readable tattoos or brands corresponding to its registration. 10. OPTIONS AND PRIVILEGES OF RETURN OR ADJUSTMENT: A. All claims for adjustment or refund must be made in writing within six (6) months of the sale date or not later than six (6) months after the animal reaches 18 months of age, with the exception of claims involving defect of parentage. B. In the event an animal is claimed to be a non-breeder, the animal may be returned to the farm/ranch of the seller if in good condition and complying with the health requirements of the seller s state.the seller shall be entitled to six months trial following the return of the animal in which to prove the animal is a breeder. If at the end of six months the seller is unable to prove the animal is a breeder, the seller, at the option of the buyer, shall replace the animal with another of equal value or refund the purchase price. The return of the full purchase price shall in any case be deemed full satisfaction and settlement. Any expenses incurred for transporting an animal claimed to be a non-breeders shall be the responsibility of the buyer; except that the seller shall be responsible for transportation cost in excess of the distance between the buyer s farm/ranch and the location where the sale took place. If the seller proves the animal to be a breeder, it shall be the obligation of the buyer to take delivery of the animal and pay all expenses incurred for transportation. C. If a female sold as safe in calf proves not be in calf, the buyer may receive service from the bull previously used. If the bull is not available, the seller shall be obligated to make a satisfactory adjustment to the purchase price upon return of the animal to the farm/ranch of the seller. Any adjustment provided for herein shall absolve the seller from further liability, except in the case such as female proves to be a non-breeder. If a female represented as safe in calf at time of sale proves to have been bred to a different bull, the seller shall be obligated to make a satisfactory adjustment on the purchase price upon return of the animal to the farm of the seller (adjustments shall not be considered to be a breeding fee or an allocation of the purchase price to any unborn calf.) Any expense incurred for transportation shall be the responsibility of the buyer, except that the seller shall be responsible for transportation cost in excess of the distance between the buyer s farm/ranch and the location where the sale took place. 11. DEFAULT: In the event of the buyer defaults on payment, the buyers shall be responsible for all costs, including attorney s costs, incurred by sale management or seller in connection with collecting, or attempting to collect, payment due. 32

35 12: GENETIC DEFECT AND PARENTAGE GUARANTEE: A. All animals are guaranteed by the seller not to produce calves with the following defects: DWARFISM, DOUBLE MUSCLING, PARROT MOUTH, OSTEOPERTOSIS (marble bone disease) and SYNDACTYLISM (mule foot).the parentage of all animals bred by the seller is guaranteed to the extent that the animal is by the sire and out of the dam that is indicated on its registration paper.these guarantees are effective for a period of two years from date of sale only under these conditions. 1. The buyers shall notify the seller in writing immediately upon birth of calf suspected of being defective or immediately after determination is made that such calf is defective or if parentage is suspect or found to be in error. 2. The seller, as his expense shall be permitted, and proved with reasonable opportunity, to obtain blood samples of alleged defective calf and its sire and dam for the purpose of DNA or blood type analysis to establish parentage. In the case of suspect parentage, the buyers, at his expense, shall be permitted, and provided with reasonable opportunity, to obtain samples of the animal in question and its sire and dam for the purpose of DNA or blood tope analysis to establish parentage, If sire and dam, as indicated on the animal s registration certificate, are proven to be in error by such analysis, seller shall reimburse buyer for cost of analysis. 3. The animals will be returned by the buyer to the seller at the buyer s expense, provided the animals meet the health requirements of the seller s state. 4. The replacement of an animal with another of equal value or the refund of the purchase price in connection with a defect producing animal or an animal whose parentage is in error shall be deemed full satisfaction and settlement. 5. In the event there is a dispute as to whether or not a calf is defective, or parentage is in error, determination refereed to in above, shall be made by a person or persons acceptable to both the buyer and seller, and in the event the buyer and seller cannot agree on the selection of such a person or persons then each of them shall appoint a representative to make the determination. In the event that such representatives fail to agree, a third person selected by the representatives of the buyer and seller shall make the determination. 13. SELLER S SEMEN RIGHTS: Any semen rights retained by the seller must be announced from the auction box at the time of the sale, if not already printed in the sale catalog. 14. RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS: 1. The above terms and conditions of sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller of each animal and shall be equally binding upon both. Each sale or resale of an animal constitutes a separate transaction. 2. Unless specially stated herein, neither the sale management nor the Red Angus Association of America shall have any liability for any event or occurrence related in any manner to this sale. All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk. The seller, the owner of the sale facility, nor any person connected with the management of the sale assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that may occur.
