1 Benton County 4-H News June 2018 Benton County Extension Staff Kelsie Muller County Extension Director 4-H Youth Development Health and Human Sciences Jon Charlesworth Extension Educator Ag & Natural Resources 4-H Youth Development Jennifer Bennett Office Manager Kasia Jayjack Purdue Extension Intern Program Assistants: Annabelle Cobb Kristine Hunt Purdue Extension Benton County 410 South Adeway, Suite A Fowler, IN Phone: 765/ Fax: Like us on Facebook-Purdue Extension Benton County 4-H Families, Please review newsletter for upcoming meetings and information carefully. The fair is about 2 months away, please contact the Extension office if you are in need of help with projects or resources. Please remember attending your club meetings is important for getting the most out of 4-H, knowing what s happening, having fun, and being prepared for judging and fair exhibits. Most projects require 3 activities from project book and record sheet to be completed. Your club leaders need to sign and review for completion. The Benton County 4-H Handbook includes project exhibit requirements, find it at click on Benton County 4-H. Also, please connect with your club leader about helping in the food stand at the fair. Every member benefits from the funds raised through the food stand; project books, camps, workshops, program supplies, and more are provided because of this important fundraiser. This is also an activity to help you earn the college savings incentive. Breeding stock is allowed in the pool. Pool price is based off of market price at the time of the fair. -During the week of the fair, auction and pool cards can be picked up from the 4-H office or barn superintendent. Separate cards are used for auction vs pool animals, so make sure you are filling out the correct card. A card should be filled out for each animal going through the auction and pool. Make sure to check the ear tags and weights of the animals and sign the back of the card once completing. Some exhibitors may need assistance from their parents. -Weights of animals are used from the livestock show bills. -Auction and pool cards must be turned in according to the fair schedule. Cards can be turned into the extension staff or directly to Carrie Buck. -The auction fund takes a 1.5% fee off of auction checks in order to pay for buyer advertising, auction software, and postage for mailings. -Auction checks are mailed when all the exhibitors buyers have paid, and at the discretion of the auction committee. Please make sure that the correct address was entered on the auction and pool cards so checks are received timely. A listing of buyers will be mailed with the checks so that thank you notes can be sent. The auction committee does their best to expedite the check process. Please be aware that some buyers companies only issue checks at a certain time of the month (ex. Every 30 or 60 days, last day of the month, etc). The auction committee reserves the right to wait until all accounts are settled before disbursing funds. -Any questions can be directed to the Extension office or Carrie Buck at buck.carrie@gmail.com.
