Frenstat 4-H-will be having their regular meeting November 1, 2017 at 7pm at the Frenstat Hall. Our community service project is a food pantry and canned good items can be brought to the meeting! Snook 4-H-will meet on November 13 at 6:30 at the Snook Brethren Church. 4-H Goat Club-will meet at 6:30p on November 9 th at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center. Caldwell 4-H-will meet Wednesday, November 1st at the Middle School Cafeteria at 7 pm. The program will be gun safety. Butter Braids will be delivered so bring a cooler! Hope to see you there 4-H Rabbit Club-will meet the first Tuesday of November (7th) at 6pm at the court house please bring some kind food item so we can make a Thanksgiving basket for a needed family in town bring anything you would have for Thanksgiving Dinner. Also in December we will be help a family with Christmas gifts for there family. National 4-H Congress November 23-28, 2017 Location: Atlanta, Georgia The National 4-H Congress is a gathering of a national design team extension educators, 4-H Members, & 4-H Volunteers who together examine issues affecting youth and try to develop methods to address those issues. 3 Major Show Information Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo January 12th-February 3rd San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo February 2nd-18th San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo February 8th-25th Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo-February 27th-March 18th Rodeo Austin March 10th-18th **Major Show sign up night will be on November 8 th from 5-8pm at the extension office. Will have a notary on hand to take care of paperwork that evening for Houston. If you plan on attending a major show you must sign up this night. ** Non-Livestock Contests at the Major Shows There are plenty of contests that do not require animals! These include food challenge, shooting sports, robotics, science contest, consumer decision making, judging contests, and much more! Entries are due at one of the Major Show Entry Nights! Quality Counts Verification This is an online training and test that members must complete before entering to show at any of the major shows. There are two versions, a junior and a senior. If you turned 14 before August 31, 2017 you will need to take the Senior version of the training/test. Please follow this ling: Southern Classic-December 8-10 The Southern Classic, a clinic and prospect show or exhibitors of beef, lamb, goat, swine, and rabbits, will be held on December 8-10 at the Brazos County Exposition Complex in Bryan. The Classic is designed to provide an educational opportunity for exhibitors wanting to gain experience in the show ring. The weekend includes educational programs mixed with competitive experiences designed to prepare youth for their ultimate experience, The County Youth Livestock Show. The Southern Classic is open to all 4-H families. There will be a variety of workshops that will be project specific. Included in the price of registration, families will enjoy a catered lunch of Saturday. Registration includes participation in all workshops and shows offered on Saturday and Sunday. There is no individual fee per animal. Just one fee for each family. Early registration ends the last week of November $30 per family. Late and on-site registration is $40 per family. Registration is completed on-line through your 4-H CONNECT family profile. Enter 4-H CONNECT using your enrollment account. Under the Family Listing, select Register a Member in an Event. The Southern Classic is available for selection. Remember you are registering the whole family, so do it only once, under the family profile. Registration fees can be paid by credit card or debit card. Rabbit exhibitors are reminded: This is a Carrying Cage Show. No pens will be available. 4-H membership is not required. A non-4-h family can register on-line at Select I need to set up a new profile. After entering your address and creating a password, there will be a selection entitled Role. Drop down the Role menu and select Non 4-H Member/Family. Deadline to Order Shirts for Southern Classic will be on November 26th. Visit the D9 website for more information.

Burleson County Fair Scholarships $1000 scholarships given each year. This year s top applicant will receive the Junice Baldwin Memorial Scholarship of $1500. Eligibility Requirements: Scholarship applications will be accepted without regard to socio-economic level, race, creed, color, religion, or national origin. Basic Applicant Requirements: Satisfactory complete the requirements for a high school diploma in the spring of the current year. Plan to attend a Vocational/Technical school or accredited College or University. Meet the minimum entrance requirements for the educational institution of their choice. Must have been a participant in the Burleson County Fair for at least (3) three years. Certification by applicant: The following material must be submitted for the Burleson County Fair Association Scholarship. Scholarship application A high school transcript for the first three and on-half years. A brief narrative about yourself (Goals, why specific career was selected, plans for future, etc.) No more than two pages, 8 1/2x11, double spaced. Three (3) letters of recommendation. Proof that applicant meets the Basic Applicant Requirements as stated above. Date and sign the application and submit, postmark no later than April 7, 2018 to the Burleson County Fair Association at the address below. Burleson County Fair Association P.O. Texas 4-H Opportunity Scholarship Program The Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program and the Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation is once again pleased to offer to our senior high school 4-H members and current college students the opportunity to apply for an Opportunity Scholarship through the Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation. This year Texas 4-H members can apply for scholarships in three areas, baccalaureate, courageous heart, and technical. Former Texas 4-H members will be able to apply for scholarships through the collegiate scholarship program. All applications and support materials can be downloaded from the Texas 4-H website at: texas4-h.tamu.edu Changes for the 2018 Texas 4-H Opportunity Scholarship Process Texas 4-H will continue to accept both the old and new versions of SAT scores for the 2018 application process. Applicants must work directly with their school administrators to ensure they have quartile ranking for their application. A quartile ranking is required to be considered for a Texas 4-H Opportunity Scholarship.,Scholarship Interviews will be conducted in College Station in May, Dr. Toby Lepley will resume leadership as Scholarship Coordinator for Please direct all questions directly to Dr. Lepley or your District 4-H Specialists. The application and the instructions are separate documents for easier completion and direction. The application form is being offered in Microsoft Word edition. Due to a continued increase in incomplete and the incorrect completion of the scholarship applications from applicants, any incomplete or incorrect application submitted will not be considered. It is the responsibility of the 4-H member and parent/ guardian to ensure all information is correct and complete prior to submitting. Absolutely no follow up or updates will be allowed once submitted. Due dates and deadlines for 2018 Scholarship process are as follows: November, 2017 Release of 2018 Application November January Scholarship Trainings October Applicant can start completing FAFSA and receive report Set by County Office Application due to County Office January 26, 2018 February 2, 2018 Applications due to District Office February 16, 2018 Applications due to State 4-H Office April 13, 2018 Interview selection notification May 4-6, 2018 Interviews in College Station, Texas June 12, 13, &/or 14, 2018 Awards Assemblies/Banquets (College Station, TX) Requirements for the Baccalaureate, Technical, and Courageous Heart Scholarships All applications MUST meet the minimum requirements/criteria to even be considered for judging (see guidelines for complete details). Those applications not meeting the requirements should not be submitted to the county Extension Office and/or Agent. Trainings. The Texas A&M Collegiate 4-H Club will be hosting a face-to-face training in College Station on the campus of Texas A&M University on Saturday, November 18th from 9 am to 3 pm. Registration is $20.00 per person and sign up can be completed on 4-H CONNECT until November 15th. For other trainings check with your District 4-H Specialist to see about any district based training (s) might be held in your area Texas 4-H Collegiate Scholarship Application Deadline for submission: February 23, 2018 The Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation provides a limited number of collegiate scholarships to students who are currently enrolled in a Texas College or University. These scholarships are awarded to deserving former 4-H members who have continued to excel in both academics and service at the collegiate level. Scholarships typically range from $1500 to $1800 and are sponsored by various donors throughout Texas. Some donors do require certain criteria to be met, in order to be awarded one of their scholarships. If you would like more information on this please call the office (979)

6 Texas 4-H Read, Lead, Succeed Book Drive The Texas 4-H Council is encouraging local 4-H clubs to collect new or gently used children and young adult books. The books should be donated back to your local community, schools, libraries, hospitals, etc. Deadline to bring books to the office will be Friday, May 25, Big Time in D9 Roundup Dates for the District 9 Roundup have been announced. Contest dates are May 3-5, again at the Lone Star College in Montgomery County. The Big Time in D9 Roundup 2018 website has the reference information contestants should be familiarizing themselves with already. h.tamu.edu/eventsandcontests/bigtime/ Registration deadline is April 4, except for Photography. **Photography, which is judged prior to Big Time in D9, has a March 28, entry deadline. The youth and adults at 4-H Roundup are very interested in learning about education and career opportunities offered. State Dog Show July 13-15, 2018 Bell County EXPO The State 4-H Dog Show is held each year in July, and offer classes in agility, rally, obedience, costume, tricks, drill, showmanship, and conformation. Texas 4-H Congress July 22-25th Austin, TX Texas 4-H Congress allows 4-H members to experience the law making process first hand by writing, submitting, and then serving as a member of the House of Representatives, the Senate, the Press, or as a Lobbyist. From these roles, the 4- H members determine the fate of each bill submitted. District & State Roundup Competitive events allowing 4-H members the opportunity to develop & practice citizenship and leadership skills. It consists of approximately 50 competitive events. Each year contests are held at the district and state level.
