Caldwell has been honored to be chosen as a KBTX/Brazos Valley "Food for Families" food drive host site. The food drive will be held on Wednesday, December 6th from 6:00am - 7:00pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church Gym. This is a countywide event and all items collected will stay in Burleson County! As a token of appreciation, candy canes along with dog treats will be handed out to those who drop off food. KBTX will be live throughout the day, so the possibility of being on TV is high! Let's show our county neighbors what Burleson County is all about!! Not to mention, it's for a very good cause. Spread the Word!! Tell as many friends and family to gather food and non-perishable items and plan to deliver them on December 6th!

2 Club News Caldwell 4-H-will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 7 pm at the Middle School Cafeteria. We will have our Club Christmas party. Pizza and drinks will be provided. Please Bring a dessert to share. 4-H Rabbit Club-will meet on Tuesday, December 5th for their Christmas Pizza party from 6-7:30P.M. Please bring a $5 gift card from Wal-Mart, Sonic, McDonalds, Etc. to exchange. This year we will be helping a Burleson County Family with Christmas gifts (9 year old girl that likes making jewelry and nails, 7 year old boy that likes football and paw patrol, 5 year old boy that likes paw patrol, 11 year old boy that likes music and games, and a 3 year old boy that likes paw patrol). If you have any questions please contact Kelly Gilbert (979) Cooks Point 4-H-Cooks Point 4-H will meet at Copperas Hollow Nursing Home at 6:00 on Wednesday, December 13. We will hand out the donated items and the cards and crafts we have been making for the residents. At 7:00 we will meet at the Cooks Point Community center for our annual Christmas Party and gift card exchange. Bryan, TX Late Registration is $40 until December 7th and onsite. Open to all youth in grades NO PEEWEE Exhibitors. The Southern Classic Beef, Lamb, Goat and Swine Clinic and Prospect Show is designed to provide an educational opportunity for 4-H and FFA families needing experience in the show ring. The weekend includes educational programs mixed with competitive experiences designed to prepare youth for their ultimate experience, The County Youth Livestock Show. For the month of December we will only have Archery practice on the second Tuesday. Practice will be held in the old American Legion at the fair grounds. Practice begins at 6p.m. and lasts about an hour. Come practice with us!

4 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Area Go Texan Scholarship Applications will be available online today, Monday, November 13 th. All applications are due February 5, All supplemental documents must be received by the HLS&R Educational programs office by February 15. Scholarship banquet will be in May. Burleson County Fair Scholarships $1000 scholarships given each year. This year s top applicant will receive the Junice Baldwin Memorial Scholarship of $1500. Eligibility Requirements: Scholarship applications will be accepted without regard to socio-economic level, race, creed, color, religion, or national origin. Basic Applicant Requirements: Satisfactory complete the requirements for a high school diploma in the spring of the current year. Plan to attend a Vocational/Technical school or accredited College or University. Meet the minimum entrance requirements for the educational institution of their choice. Must have been a participant in the Burleson County Fair for at least (3) three years. Certification by applicant: The following material must be submitted for the Burleson County Fair Association Scholarship. Scholarship application A high school transcript for the first three and on-half years. A brief narrative about yourself (Goals, why specific career was selected, plans for future, etc.) No more than two pages, 8 1/2x11, double spaced. Three (3) letters of recommendation. Proof that applicant meets the Basic Applicant Requirements as stated above. Date and sign the application and submit, postmark no later than April 7, 2018 to the Burleson County Fair Association at the address below. Burleson County Fair Association P.O. Texas 4-H Opportunity Scholarship Program The Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program and the Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation is once again pleased to offer to our senior high school 4-H members and current college students the opportunity to apply for an Opportunity Scholarship through the Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation. This year Texas 4-H members can apply for scholarships in three areas, baccalaureate, courageous heart, and technical. Former Texas 4-H members will be able to apply for scholarships through the collegiate scholarship program. All applications and support materials can be downloaded from the Texas 4-H website at: texas4-h.tamu.edu Changes for the 2018 Texas 4-H Opportunity Scholarship Process Texas 4-H will continue to accept both the old and new versions of SAT scores for the 2018 application process. Applicants must work directly with their school administrators to ensure they have quartile ranking for their application. A quartile ranking is required to be considered for a Texas 4-H Opportunity Scholarship. Scholarship Interviews will be conducted in College Station in May, Dr. Toby Lepley will resume leadership as Scholarship Coordinator for Please direct all questions directly to Dr. Lepley or your District 4-H Specialists. The application and the instructions are separate documents for easier completion and direction. The application form is being offered in Microsoft Word edition. Due to a continued increase in incomplete and the incorrect completion of the scholarship applications from applicants, any incomplete or incorrect application submitted will not be considered. It is the responsibility of the 4-H member and parent/guardian to ensure all information is correct and complete prior to submitting. Absolutely no follow up or updates will be allowed once submitted. Due dates and deadlines for 2018 Scholarship process are as follows: November, 2017 Release of 2018 Application November January Scholarship Trainings October Applicant can start completing FAFSA and receive report January 26, 2018 Application due to County Office February 2, 2018 Applications due to District Office February 16, 2018 Applications due to State 4-H Office April 13, 2018 Interview selection notification May 4-6, 2018 June 12, 13, &/or 14, 2018 Interviews in College Station, Texas Awards Assemblies/ Banquets (College Station, TX) Requirements for the Baccalaureate, Technical, and Courageous Heart Scholarships All applications MUST meet the minimum requirements/criteria to even be considered for judging (see guidelines for complete details). Those applications not meeting the requirements should not be submitted to the county Extension Office and/or Agent. Trainings. The Texas A&M Collegiate 4-H Club will be hosting a face-to-face training in College Station on the campus of Texas A&M University on Saturday, November 18th from 9 am to 3 pm. Registration is $20.00 per person and sign up can be completed on 4-H CONNECT until November 15th. For other trainings check with your District 4-H Specialist to see about any district based training (s) might be held in your area. EEA Scholarship Opportunity There is a scholarship available from the Texas Extension Education Association for graduating seniors that turned in a 4-H Record book for this current year. The application & record book are due to the Extension office on February 14, Class of 2018 Scholarships

Whole Show $TBA. These prices are only good for pre-registration and includes your 1st bag of shavings. On-site will be sold at an additional cost of $10 per stalling period. June 19-20, 2018 Location: Brazos County EXPO Bryan, TX Entry/Registration Deadline: May 23, 2018 Texas 4-H Read, Lead, Succeed Book Drive The Texas 4-H Council is encouraging local 4-H clubs to collect new or gently used children and young adult books. The books should be donated back to your local community, schools, libraries, hospitals, etc. Deadline to bring books to the office will be Friday, May 25, District & State Roundup Competitive events allowing 4-H members the opportunity to develop and practice citizenship and leadership skills. It consists of approximately 50 competitive events. Each year contest are held at the district and state level. District Roundup May 3-5, 2018 Register on 4-H Connect by April 4th State Roundup June 11-14, 2018 Register on 4-H Connect by May 17th Big Time in D9 Roundup Dates for the District 9 Roundup have been announced. Contest dates are May 3-5, again at the Lone Star College in Montgomery County. The Big Time in D9 Roundup 2018 website has the reference information contestants should be familiarizing themselves with already. Registration deadline is April 4, except for Photography. **Photography, which is judged prior to Big Time in D9, has a March 28, entry deadline. Registration is conducted on-line via the 4-H Connect enrollment program, for those 4-H members with an active enrollment status. Contact the Extension Office if you are interested in these contests. The youth and adults at 4-H Roundup are very interested in learning about education and career opportunities offered.

8 Christmas on the Square Christmas on the Square is adding even more family fun in 2017! The en re event will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 1p 6p. Performances by our local youth, choir and dance organiza ons will perform from 1:30p 3p. Rudolph will visit the courthouse as well! We will also have: -Red & Green Chili Cook-Off (All day starting with a bloody mary contest! Located in the City Hall Parking Lot) -Bounce Houses- from 1pm-6pm located on Echols St. -Elf School- from 3pm-6pm located on Echols St. -Pictures with Santa- from 3pm-6pm located at the Fire Station on Main. -Downtown Shopping & Eating- ALL DAY! -Christmas market/vendors- 1pm-6pm located on Hill St between Fox/Fawn -Dancing lights on the courthouse- NOW through Christmas! A special THANK YOU to Burns Reyes-Burns law firm for setting up the lights! -Lighted window displays- Throughout the season! -Lighted Parade (lines up at 5:30p and parade rolls at 6pm) -and our second annual 'Who House & Grinch's Lair" from 3pm-6pm in the basement of the courthouse. 10 State Dog Show July 13-15, 2018 Bell County EXPO The state 4-H dog show is held each year in July, and offer classes in agility, rally, obedience, costume, tricks, drill, showmanship, and conformation. Texas 4-H Congress July 22-25, 2018 Austin, TX Texas 4-H Congress allows 4-H members to experience the law making process first hand by writing, submitting, and then serving as a member of the House of Representatives, the Senate, the Press, or as a Lobbyist. From these roles, the 4-H members determine the fate of each bill submitted.
