All cattle will be inspected for soundness. All bulls have been dewormed and vaccinated for 8-way/Somnus, IB, BVD, P13, PSV and Lept/Vibro. The bulls have been given Anaplasmosis vaccine. All bulls will have had a fertility evaluation and will sell semen tested. Delivery Free delivery within California. Take $50 off the purchase price for every bull personally hauled home sale day! Transportation Upon request, with sufficient time, planes will be met at the Sacramento and Modesto Airports. Livestock Mortality Insurance Mortality insurance on your purchases will be available at the sale. Lot Numbers Lot numbers on the bulls will correspond to the sale listing. Lunch A complimentary lunch will be available sale day starting at 11:30 a.m. Inspection of Cattle Cattle will be available for inspection at the sale site beginning September 16 after 12 Noon. Terms of Payment Terms of sale are cash. Cashier s check, certified check, traveler s check or personal check - no exceptions. Two forms of positive ID will be required for checks. Settlement for full purchase price must be made within 30 minutes of the conclusion of the sale. There will be a $20 charge each time a check is returned from the bank for any reason. The seller(s) will be responsible for feed costs through September 16, After September 17, 2014, arrangements can be made for animal care and hauling. Sale management and auctioneer act as agents of the seller, but assume no liability for either buyer or seller. Any representation by the sale management is made on behalf of the seller. All buyers and sellers attend the sale at their own risk. Announcements Announcements from the block override printed material in the sale book. etained Interest In Bulls We will be retaining a 50% semen interest and revenue sharing in the bulls in the sale. This means the bull is totally in your control and you will get 100% of his salvage value. If at some time semen sales on the bull become a possibility, we simply have the right to a 50% share of the semen sales revenue from the bull. If you sell the bull to another breeder, we retain 50% of that bull with the new owner. ealistically it is unlikely that large amounts of semen will be sold on many of these bulls. The main reason we are retaining an interest in these bulls is that they may be proven later in life that they are superior bulls with the commercial cattle that are produced and that excel in the industry, in particular if the carcass data on the cattle from a particular bull is collected and proven to be exceptional. If you purchase a bull we retain an interest in and you choose to collect the bull for your own use, the semen is 100% yours. We may choose to collect semen from the bull, either for in-herd use or to build a joint semen bank with the new owner for sale purposes. If you are not interested in collecting semen on the bull, we reserve the right to collect the bull for our own use or for sale to third parties. In that case, we will pay 100% of the collection expenses. Semen collection will be at the convenience of the buyer. I was amazed at how these cattle were able to continue to put on weight over the 5 months they were on feed and really utilize their genetics to produce very marketable carcass. Along with large out weights not typically seen on calf feds, we also saw few discounts and great carcass yield. Finally, a 3.7 to 4.1 average daily gain and 5.4 to 5.5 dry feed to gain/feed conversion are performance numbers to be proud of. YW Marb E BF API TI N/A N/A N/A N/A EPD: Expected Progeny Difference is calculated and provided by the American Angus Association on the traits being measured. The EPD is expressed as a plus or minus value in pounds, inches or centimeters corresponding to the measured trait. They take into account the performance of an animal when compared to its contemporaries along with the performance of its ancestors. This eliminates the environmental differences and allows accurate comparison of any two animals in the entire Angus breed, regardless of location or management conditions. Comparing adjusted weights, ultrasound marbling scores or ultrasound ribeye area measurements from bulls raised in different locations only compares the difference in how those bulls were fed and managed. Comparing the EPDs of those same bulls allows for a more accurate comparison of the genetic potential they will have as the sires of calves. The proper use of EPDs is not complicated and need not be difficult. Here are some simple and practical suggestions for using EPDs in bull selection. Birth EPD: esearch has proven that Birth EPD is many times more accurate predicting calving ease of a bull s progeny than his own individual birth weight. emember, the birth weight of the individual has already been factored into the Birth EPD; therefore, a bull with an actual birth weight of 88 pounds and BW EPD of +.5 will be a much better choice for breeding heifers than a bull with an actual birth weight of 70 pounds and an EPD of To compare two bulls, subtract the lower Birth EPD from the higher. This resulting figure would be the expected difference in the average birth weights of the calves each bull should sire. Weaning/Yearling EPDs: These two numbers are used to measure and compare the growth genetics that a bull will transmit to his calves. If you retain ownership through the rail, Yearling EPDs will be the best measure and predictor of growth and feedlot performance. If you sell calves you may choose to focus on weaning EPD, the correlation between the two is quite high. When comparing two bulls, subtract the lower YW EPD from the high YW EPD. If Bull A has an EPD of +70 and Bull B has an EPD of +40, we should expect Bull A s calves to be 30 pounds heavier on average at yearling weight than Bull B s. For the purpose of value comparison, the 30 pounds more per calf sired by Bull A times 100 calves produced in his lifetime, at an average value of $75 per cwt., makes Bull A worth $2,250 more than Bull B. Milk EPD: Expressed in pounds of weaning weight that result from the amount of milk produced by daughters of a particular bull, as compared to the daughters of other bulls. Ultrasound Measurements Ultrasound measurements were performed by a Beef Improvement Federation-certified ultrasound technician. A realtime ultrasound machine equipped with a transducer designed specifically for large animal body composition was used. Measurements were taken between the 12th and 13th rib, and research has demonstrated those ultrasound measurements of a fat thickness, ribeye area and marbling are highly correlated with similar measurements in a beef carcass. EA: ibeye area is measured in square inches and has been adjusted to 365 days of age using a linear area per day of age adjustment. ibeye area is positively and highly correlated with lean yield and percent retail product. Backfat: Fat thickness is measured in inches, and it is negatively correlated with percent retail product. Marbling: Marbling is measured as percent intramuscular fat.
