The Finish Line V O L U M E 5, I S S U E 2 M A R C H / A P R I L Announcing New in Zoomers Kids Race Series Visit Zoomers Zoomers is pleased to 13.1 cumulative miles are in on race day. If online at run.com/ for upcoming race information, past newsletters and other useful information IN THIS ISSUE: 2013 Kids Race 2 Series Actor Marathoners 2 Race Review 3 announce a new running series for 2013, the Zoomers Kids Race Series. Details are still being finalized but this ought to be an exciting new series that will allow the younger members of our organization to get involved! Race Series Points will be awarded as follows: 10 pts- 1 st Place in Age Group Male and Female 8 pts- 2 nd Place in Age Group Male and Female will receive a Half Marathon medal. Each participant that completes a minimum of 26.2 cumulative miles will receive a Marathon medal. Each participant that completes every race in the Race Series will receive an award. All Races will be considered as part of the Race Series; however, only your best 6 Races will be scored. Points are cumulative through- you age up during the year, your points will travel up with you. Racing series point totals will be posted on the Zoomers website after each race. Any ties that occur will be broken by analyzing scores, and at the discretion of the committee. It is encouraged that you participate in a Summer Race Series in your area. Awards will be present- Horoscopes 4 Run a 5K This 5 Spring Recipe of the 5 RRCA Coaches 7 5 pts- 3 rd Place in Age Group Male and Female 3 Pts- Finishing Race Male and Female Each participant that completes a minimum of out the year. Only Zoomers Members 19 and YOUNGER, in good standing, will be eligible and awarded points. You will receive points in whatever age group you ed at an Annual Zoomers Kids Party. Check out this list of some actors who have completed marathons. Meredith Baxter, Family Ties, New York City Marathon - Joan ran her marathon in a very respectable 4:08:30. She s gotta be a lot of people s favorite TV moms. Actor Marathoners William Baldwin, New York City Marathon In acting, he s always been overshadowed by his brother Alec. But not as an athlete this guy can really run. His 3:24:29 finish shows real talent! Anthony Edwards, Chicago Marathon - ER Star Anthony Edward s Chicago Marathon time of 3:55:40 is very impressive. David James Elliott, Boston Marathon - This Canadian star of JAG finished the Boston Marathon in 4:57:23. Will Ferrell, Boston Marathon He s funny and fit, with a finish time of 3:56:12. Remember the Fallen 5K September 14, 2013 Howl at the Moon 5K October 19, 2013 Run 4 a Reason 5K November 2, 2013 Free to Breathe 5K November 9, 2013 Resolution 5K January 4, 2014 Mario López,, Boston Marathon Saved by the Bell Star Mario Lopez finished the Boston Marathon with a 5:41:41. Peter Weller, New York City Marathon This Robocop Star got it done in 3:51:26. Freddie Prinze, Jr., Los Angeles Marathon Freddie Prinze Jr. from I Know What You Did Last Summer and She s All That finished the Los Angeles Marathon in 5:50:49. Good food, great company, and fun times were had by all who attended. RACE REVIEW - FRIEND DAY 5K Name: Friend Day 5K When: Saturday, March 2nd 8AM Location: Suncoast Baptist Church in Port Charlotte, FL Route: Nice route around the neighborhood starting an ending at the church Weather: Cold day, had to wear a jacket while running Size: Small group, very friendly, around 110 people. Bathrooms: Nice indoor bathrooms, plenty of stalls so no waiting. Post Race Food: Snacks available after the run were great! Bananas, oranges, cookies, muffins and more. T-shirt: Great shirts! Long sleeve, red, moisture wicking. Personal race story: There was a man at the Remember the Fallen 5K back in September. He came running up from behind and I was able to keep up with him most of the race, but he slowly inched farther and farther ahead of me. This time I saw him again and decided to try to stay with him. As we ran he was yelling out tips like, keep your arms low and Submit your race review to zoomers.newsletter@gmail.com You can breathe now. He also kept updating me on how much farther we had to go. I managed to stay with him the whole way this time, we cross the finish line together and I got a new PR. Thanks Bob! Friend Day 5K Trophies waiting to be claimed.

5 V O L U M E 5, I S S U E 2 P A G E 5 Run a 5K this Spring Recipe of the Month - Pumpkin Spice Pancakes INGREDIENTS 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup whole-wheat flour 1.5 tablespoons brown sugar 1 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup milk 1/2 cup pumpkin puree 1 egg white 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar DIRECTIONS In a separate bowl, mix together the milk, pumpkin, egg, oil and vinegar. Combine the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt, stir into the pumpkin mixture just enough to combine. Heat a lightly oiled frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve hot. Serves 2. Did you try this recipe? Love it? Hate it?
