I am sorry to have missed the evening and our chef s first buffet at the Club. If you also missed out on Friday s buffet you can still catch our first Thursday Night Dinner on July 2nd. I expect that too will be a tantalizing success. Check out the menu and please call the Club to make your reservation before noon on Wednesday. As you know, RLWYC programs start today so don t miss getting your choice spot and register online for sailing, tennis and swimming. I hear our new Tennis Pro Daniel Fraser has arrived and can t wait to get on the court with members of all ages. There will be no programs on Canada Day but you can make a splash at the pool party and enjoy the Gin & Tonic aboard one of our sailor s scows. This new event will allow Members (aged 10+) to experience a leisurely scow cruise under the guidance of an experienced skipper. After a slight delay due to thunderstorms, three races were completed. Congratulations to overall winner Raif Richardson, along with crew Lee Nuttall and Hunter. Tennis Hi everyone! This year at Royal Lake of the Woods Yacht Club I will be filling the shoes of Sean Bailey who has been the head tennis coach here for the last two years.

4 Tennis Hi everyone! This year at Royal Lake of the Woods Yacht Club I will be filling the shoes of Sean Bailey who has been the head tennis coach here for the last two years. From what I have heard Sean did a great job and I certainly have big shoes to fill. I am excited to be a part of this great club and I look forward to meeting everyone. This year at the club we have on offer a new class called Adult Fit Tennis. Adult Fit Tennis is loads of fun; I blast some music and give you a good sweat as well as allow you to hit plenty of tennis balls. I ran a class on Sunday and everyone had a great time. Classes will run from 10:15-11:15am throughout this week and next, it costs $10, and is for ages 12 and up. There is no specific fitness level or playing level required, in other words, no excuses! Triple threat is also on offer from 11:30-12:30pm for weeks 1 and 2. It costs $5 per person, and is available for people ages 10 and up. It has been very popular in the past and I am sure this year will not be any different. There has been a change to both Adult Fit Tennis and Triple Threat. Both do NOT require a pre-registration. Also both of these classes will only take the first 20 people so make sure you come early as I hear some days are pretty busy! Other classes this week include Mini Court 1 & 2 (9:00-10:00am), Pro 1 and 2 (1:30-3:00pm), and Adult Intro to Tennis (3:15-4:00pm). And just a reminder, there are no lessons on Wednesday this week! I would also like to give a shout out to Ben Rankin who is moving up to a more significant coaching role as assistant coach, as well as Niels Hurst and Hannah Blatt who will also be helping where necessary. We are excited to be instructing students in the game of tennis, and more importantly facilitating a fun and friendly environment. Content will be similar in each class but one is the full program (4 hours in length) and upon completion participants will earn their certificate in Emergency First Aid. The shorter program will cover similar material but in less depth and participants will not earn their certification. Participants in both programs will learn current CPR and AED use. In addition, local emergency service personnel will start each of the programs with a presentation and answer questions specific to the Kenora area. Aquatics The water is warm and the swim program is open! Drop by the Club between noon and 2:00 on Canada Day for a BBQ and a swim, meet some of the instructors and sign up for a program. Each week there is time in the schedule for both formal lessons and a fun swim program as well as Bronze Levels. I have just completed my first year of university and the university of Manitoba and will return for classes in the fall. I have been teaching swimming lessons for 3 years for school divisions, private company's and the Yacht club summer I am excited to be returning and help expand the program to involve more families and students. Hello! My name is Maddy Compton. I grew up in Kenora, and as a kid I spent my summers at the Yacht Club taking sailing and tennis lessons. I was a competitive swimmer for eight years, coached for two years and then became a lifeguard last year. I'm looking forward to a fun summer!
