We had perfect weather for the raft up with a good attendance and great food. The Luau theme was a lot of fun at the last monthly meeting.

One of the neatest things about being commodore is meeting new people as the representative of TSC. There is also interfacing with the other partner Mary Anne Secrist, Commodore groups.

I hope some of you will consider joining the leadership of TSC by serving on the Board in the coming year. Fresh faces and new ideas make for a fun group. It s a good way to get to know each other.

Two classes down and two to go. Many volunteers have made for successful use of the facility. We had perfect weather for the raft up with a good attendance and great food. The Luau theme was a lot of fun at the last monthly meeting. Seems like the BoatHouse is continuously expanding programs and upgrades. The latest is maintenance of the parking lot. Little cracks become big cracks, so repairs are much appreciated. One of the neatest things about being commodore is meeting new people as the representative of TSC. There is also interfacing with the other partner Mary Anne Secrist, Commodore groups. You are stretched in ways that otherwise you wouldn t have the opportunity to participate. The support from TSC Board and membership makes a lot of projects possible. I hope some of you will consider joining the leadership of TSC by serving on the Board in the coming year. Fresh faces and new ideas make for a fun group. It s a good way to get to know each other. If my T-shirt is correct, 2010 was the 40 th anniversary of TSC. I know 2020 sounds like a long time away, but it will be the 50 th anniversary of the club. How do we want to celebrate? 2 July is the heart of the Sailing Season, Join us for food and fun TSC Potluck and Asian Cuisine July 15th 2017 Program: Oliver Fisher " How to drown your future wife on the way to Bimini" Orville is a long time TSC member and one of our best story teller, a great sailor and co-owner of the Rawson 30. Asian Cuisine. The July meeting theme is intended to take you on an exciting adventure to Shanghai, Bangkok, Hanoi, Seoul, Singapore, Tokyo and beyond. The Temple (Boathouse) will be decked out in Asian style. So remove your shoes upon entry, dress in your Oriental attire and be prepared to be transported to a far off land. Potluck: 6:30 PM The meal will take on an Asian theme. Asian lettuce wraps, Asian Orange Chicken, Asian Beef and Snow Peas, Asian Salmon, and my favorite Cashew Chicken. Spring rolls, egg rolls, fried or white rice, steamed or stir fried vegetables. For dessert fortune cookies, Kluay Kaeg (Fried Bananas), or your favorite Asian recipe. As usual, the club will provide beverages, utensils, plates/bowls, etc... We had a great group of volunteers but at times could used another one or two. Please keep this in mind as these camps are scheduled, you don t have to be an experienced sailor just someone who can lend a hand here and there, run a safety boat or help crew aboard a safety boat, there s lots of small tasks than anyone can help with. The fees from our classes pay the utility and insurance costs for the BoatHouse! Please help!

Kids Sailing Camps! Session Two and Intermediate The Lake Thunderbird BoatHouse at Lake Thunderbird, Norman, OK is holding its 16 th year of Kids Sailing (Day) Camps on June 26-30th.

5 Kids Sailing Camps! Session Two and Intermediate The Lake Thunderbird BoatHouse at Lake Thunderbird, Norman, OK is holding its 16 th year of Kids Sailing (Day) Camps on June 26-30th. The principal US Sailing Certified instructors are Phil Moershel Jerry Lojka ( ) An additional Intermediate Kids Sailing Camp will be held July for those who are interested in racing. The 5-day class fee is $200 and the 3- day Intermediate Class is $150. Paul Reynolds ( ) is the Principal Instructor for this advanced class. Enrollment is limited to 12 students for each camp. This year the 3 day camps will run from Thursday through Saturdaystarting at 9AM each day and ending at 3PM with an hour for lunch. Girls and boys must be 9-13 to enroll and must be able to swim. Each child should bring his/her own lunch and their own PFD (US Coast Guard approved life jacket). Small sailboats are used for training and each child will learn to rig, launch and sail their boat across the lake and return. To enroll online or get additional information, go to and click Learn to Sail. Payment can also be made online via PayPal. Enrollment can also be accomplished by calling one of the Instructors. These classes fill up so enroll soon!

6 Great time had by all at our Kids Sailing Camp Two II. Thanks to the many volunteers who helped make this class possible. It Takes a Lot of Volunteers who care to make our Club, Boat- House, Sea Scouts and Triathlon Club work. Thanks for all who contribute so much. Your care matters.

Last year we had a large group from Tulsa s Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges. Most will join through the OKlahoma Adaptive Sports Association, formerly known as G.O.D.S.A. Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation staff is heavily involved, as is the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Oklahoma. We'll have water-skiing, tubing, kayaking, swimming, picnicking, and of course sailing. We'll put out the pontoon boat for rides.this has always been an exciting event in large measure fostered by the wonderfully accessible Boathouse facility and the people who run it. That's us, the Thunderbird Sailing Club. We need volunteers to bring their sailboat, help manage the beach, dock, and BoatHouse, and especially to help clean up between 4:00 and 5:30. This year I'm pleased to welcome members of Tri OKC who will be providing lifeguard supervision. We can already thank Phil, Jim and Dave for clearing the beach, ramp and parking pad. Lunch will be served, and the tee shirt this year is really cool.

8 BoatHouse and Edmond Elks Host Vets On Monday morning June 12 the Edmond Elks Lodge hosted the Norman Veterans Center Vets to a luncheon and fun pontoon boat rides! We thank Edmond Elk members Joddy, Bill, Jerri, Ray, Dale, B.B, Ed, John, Roger and LD. Was helpful to have Jerry Lojka and Les from the TSC as well. We can always use a few extra hands at these luncheons for our Nation s Heroes! It was also great having Connie Divine and her dad, retired Army veteran, Richard Divine visit that day as well. Richard s wife, Reva Divine is memorialized on the BoatHouse Memorials Plaque. Richard s grandson was also with him. The Veterans Center staff provided a delicious luncheon for the vets as well as all the volunteers! We hope to be able to do one more veterans luncheon during the month of September. Please come out and lend a hand!

9 From your Treasurer and Membership Secretary, Fredrica Cottrell Leukemia Cup Regatta The Club received a lovely thank you not from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society expressing their appreciation for the donation. The club raised $1,745 to help toward the developing cures and better treatments for people with blood cancers. It s not too early to start thinking about making our donation larger next year. New Members: We are pleased to have two new members join the club. Please welcome: Mark and Claudia Welch 2017 TSC Membership Directory: You should have received your copy of the new membership directory via in pdf format. If you did not receive, or are have corrections to the Directory, please let me know. Renewing your TSC membership: For those who have responded with your annual renewal payment, Thank You! However, for those who have yet to send theirs in, it is very disappointing to go to my mailbox and find nothing there. It has been slow going for membership renewals this year and I am hoping that if you are among those who have yet to return yours, that you will consider doing so. We really need your support. He loved to sail his San Juan 21 and his Tanzer 7.5 which he sailed on Lake Texoma. He was a great competitor and gentleman, he is greatly missed by all those who knew him. Reggie passed away on May 27, This photo was taken of Reggie in the spring of 2001 standing outside of the construction project soon to be known as the Lake Thunderbird BoatHouse. He was one of many construction volunteers and donors!
