4 Safety Information Haf-ife Peroxide decomposition rates are commony reported in terms of haf-ife time or when of the peroxide has decomposed at a certain temperature. Recommended organic peroxide heat temperatures commony refect the haf-ife time at 10 hours, 1 hour and 1 minute. The higher the haf-ife temperature, the more stabe the peroxide. Haf-ife temperatures can vary based on formuations and sovents. Using the Arrhenius equation, acronyms reated to haf-ife time incude: k d = A e -E A/ RT and t ½ = In(2/k d ) k d : R ate constant of the peroxide dissociation A: Arrhenius frequency factor E A : Activation energy for the dissociation R: Idea gas constant T: Temperature t ½ : Haf-ife time rate of decomposition product temperature/time Controing the temperature is the most important constant. If the temperature is maintained we beow its sef-acceerating decomposition temperature (SADT), most hazards are avoided when shipping, handing or storing. For storage over a onger period of time, foow the manufacturer s temperature recommendations. Sef-Acceerating Decomposition Temperature (SADT) The SADT is the owest constant temperature for sef-acceerating decomposition when transporting packaged peroxides. At the SADT, when eevated heat temperatures from decomposition exceed the heat oss, over time, the peroxide s temperature increases and it decomposes faster or sef acceerates. The fina decomposition may be uncontroabe. Minimum/Maximum recommended storage temperatures The maximum recommended storage temperature is ower than the contro temperature for quaity assurance purposes not safety. Keep in mind, some iquid or paste organic peroxides must not be stored beow a certain minimum temperature as turbidity, phase separation, crysta deposits or soidification can occur.
