2 December Website: message Happy holidays to one and P resident's all! The snow has begun falling, and with western bases up to 45 in places, many ski areas already open! You can get excited now about all of our great upcoming trips there is still a chance to get on some of our western trips, and the day trips are all open. We have two great one day trips in January Holiday Valley 1 and Holimont and the flyers are out and 2 reservations are being made. We also have some fantastic opportunities for Nordic skiing right here in our own back yard don t wait to get out on the snow! Our Queen Sue represented us very well last month at the Ski Queen pageant that was held at the Kissing Bridge Halloween party. Unfortunately, she was not crowned CMSC Queen or court but she is still our NASA Ski Queen!! As is tradition, we will have our White Elephant exchange at our December meeting December 7th so be sure to bring a gift to trade! We have had some great, fun, hilarious, and wacky gifts in the past so wrap something up that you no longer want and bring it to the meeting.. I am looking forward to a fun holiday party. Happy Holidays, Stacey A Lewis Ski Club thanks to November meeting speaker Greg Maguire of Little Mountain Ltd. Greg gave insight into what is new for the up coming ski and boarding season. He also told us what to check and how to best prepare our equipment to make sure it is ready to go this winter. The tip to wear your ski boots before hitting the slopes to get them formed once again to your feet is a good one. You can find Greg at Little Mountain Limited, 7230 Mentor Ave., Mentor Oh (440) Info@littlemountainltd.com Another Lewis Ski Club thanks to Bob Laws of the NASA Fitness Center, our second speaker of the night. Bob s seasonal talk reinforces what we all know, To maximize your fun on the slopes get your most important piece of equipment in shape, which is you. His talk gave some valuable tips on how to get into and stay in a preseason workout routine so that your first turn of the season will be just as good as the last. 3 Website: December NASA Lewis Ski Club Activities Winter Activities White Elephant Exchange at December Club Meeting: At our general meeting in December, the club will hold our somewhat annual white elephant exchange. All you have to do to participate is bring a very nicely wrapped white elephant to the club meeting. The white elephants examples from previous years ranged from a goofy ski hat, to a beautiful framed picture of a pile of skis to some lovely etched glass wine glasses, to a silly Christmas bear to a Chia pet, to WHATEVER! So, you bring your gift; check in and get your number and place the gift on the table. Your number will determine the order in which you get to go and select another gift from the table during the exchange. You open it, and then you get one chance to go and select/steal from the previous openers! It has been a lot of fun in previous years - watching the current selectee steal away a treasure from the earlier openers! The first selectee gets final pickings! Please join in on the fun this year. Find that white elephant and wrap it up pretty and come on down! 12/9: CMSC Night at Cleveland Indians Snow Days at Progressive Field on Thursday evening, Dec 9th. This event is for all members, families, and friends of the CMSC. The Indians are offering a special discounted rate of $23/person which will include your selected two-hour Snow Tubing session, along with unlimited ice skating and other fun winter activities! 4 December Website: Racing News Get ready for racing in 2011! The weekend race series and Wednesday night race series schedules are both online at The weekend race series schedule is shuffled this year with a new race at Snow Trails added. After a weekend off, the next race weekend is at Holiday Valley on January 22nd-23rd. For new racers, the Geiger s Rookie Racer Challenge is back. On the day you qualify, you are entered to win a Geiger s gift certificate that day. Plus, for each race you participate in during the season, you are given another chance to win the grand prize at the end of the season. You can qualify for the weekend race series at either the qualifier at Boston Mills on Wednesday, January 5th evening or at (almost) any regular race. Contact Lisa Lambert, Race Chair (216) Lisa.M.Lambert@nasa.gov, for details on either race series. ACTIVITY REPORT CUYAHOGA VALLEY RAIL TO BIKE TRAIL The Pumpkin Express was 15 traincars of families and bikers going south of Independence to enjoy the fall colors and last part of autumn sunshine. Dave Evans,Dave s son in-law, Janet Dubas, victoria Wise, Ron Howard, and Allen Porter were on time and on board for the ride south. The train cars were filled with sightseers for the season. One who shared a train seat with us was a Parent CwrU student from Denver. Ironicially, she wasn t a skier, but very much a Cleveland fan from visiting her son at school. We got off the train and started our cycle journey at Indigo Lake and enjoyed a comfortable ride 4 miles on the tow path along side the canal to Peninusla where we stopped for a selection of Winking Lizard appetizers and lagers. Refreshed and refueld we continued 14 more miles to Independence.and the rail terminal parking lot to our cars. It is a pleasant ride at a comfortable cruising pace that allows conversation with light exercise. It was the last chance to appreciate the beauty of autumn and cooler temperatures.
