1 October Volume 156 October 2016 Hello fellow club members: Summer is over! Linda & I) are training for an Oct. bike and barge trip in Italy we bought at a large discount at the FWSA Convention. The last club meeting at Angela s was a great pizza celebration with lots of salads. I thank everyone attending for responding with RSVP s to Angela. MSC is an active social club and we have activities (active activities) for all members scheduled year round. We still have an autumn bike ride, kayaking, and our backyard meetings on our schedule. In addition to our scheduled events, we can use our Lodge as a base for golfing, and biking or hiking over the high Sierra and around Tahoe. I have observed that skiers love to be active and enjoy life to its fullest. Our semiannual Lodge Cleanup Weekend was Sep at the Lodge in Truckee. This was a great social weekend with food provided, to deep clean the Lodge, restock firewood, and get acquainted with fellow club members. We also brought our bikes for a Sunday morning bike ride around Truckee. Once again Michelle prepared great food to feed 17 members. Our next meeting will be at Ron & Pam s beautiful Oakdale home at 9994 Fox Borough Drive. This is a not to be missed opportunity to dine with fellow skiers who like to enjoy a party and trade stories of ski plans for the coming winter. To ensure adequate food, please RSVP to the host prior to the meeting and indicate what you will be contributing for the meal. Our Membership Mixer meeting is again at John s Incredible Pizza Parlor on Oct 11. This is our annual membership renewal, and welcome to our new members, club meeting. This club has lots of summer activities to keep you alive, (if you survive the activity). In addition you do need to plan the coming years ski trips: FWSA Ski Week at Breckenridge (15 Club members are signed up already, do not be left out), BAC Park City UT Ski Trip (Linda and I are on this trip), Sun Peaks in Canada, and International Ski trips by FWSA (available on the web site). Check out this newsletter for all the details of meetings, activities, trips, and other coming attractions. (They can change occasionally). Chuck Hennings President

2 MODESTO SKI CLUB LODGE NEWS Greetings! Fall is here and it is starting to finally feel like the Winter weather will be here shortly! Get your skis, boards & winter gear ready. Start your snow dance now. As I am writing this article, the work weekend is in a couple days. Will report on how it went in November s newsletter. The Lodge Trustees and Modesto Ski Club Board voted to increase some of the fees for Lodge usage. Please make a note of the following changes when making payment for Lodge reservations & Season/Full Year Key Passes. Member Adult Rate Per Night $20.00, Member Child Rate Per Night $5.00. Guest Adult Rate per Night $25.00, Guest Child Rate Per Night $6.00. Winter or Summer Season Pass $ NOTE: ONLY A WINTER PASS MAY BE EXTENDED TO A SUMMER PASS FOR AN ADDITIONAL $ A SUMMER PASS IS NOT VALID TO EXTEND TO A WINTER PASS AT ANY TIME. Full Yearly Pass $ Other info that may be helpful Lost Key Fee $10.00, Late return of keys $2.00 per day. Be sure to get your Membership payment and paperwork into Membership Chairperson Paula Tucker. I will be accepting payment for Passes after the Board has approved your renewal for the Modesto Ski Club Membership. So the earliest I would be able to accept payment for your passes is after the board meeting in October. Any questions on the above information please contact me so I may help answer them for you. I will be installing a Battery Back Up and Phone next to the Fax Machine. Please do not unplug the way it is set up when visiting the lodge. I will put a sign up on how to listen to messages on the phone and delete them. We have WiFi and the way it is set up digitally is different so faxing the bed list has not been working very well. Going to try a different approach. Thanks in advance for your help. Thanks! Michelle Nightengale, Lodge Chairperson mnighte@aol.com or (209)

Warren Miller 2016 Film Save the Date in October Issue, more information in November issue. It s been 67 years since ski-film pioneer Warren Miller picked up a camera to capture the wonder, the adventure, the humor and the beauty that is skiing. Since that time, Warren Miller film crews have traveled the globe from storied slopes to hidden, snow-covered corners to celebrate all things snowsports. Their quest has taken powder-hungry filmgoers, well, Here, There & Everywhere and this year continues that legacy. In this 67th annual Warren Miller film, take a freeski adventure with industry veterans Ingrid Backstrom and Wendy Fisher in Crested Butte, tour Eastern Greenland by dog sled with Seth Wescott and Rob Kingwill and follow Jess McMillan and Grete Eliassen on a Swiss holiday aboard the Glacier Express. Explore the backcountry of Western Montana s Glacier Country with Tyler Ceccanti, Collin Collins and Keith Curtis and catch a powder day with Kaylin Richardson, Matt Elliott, Marcus Caston and the Kicking Horse ski patrol in British Columbia. Travel along as Warren Miller Entertainment commemorates Stein Eriksen in Deer Valley, captures the big air at Boston s Fenway Park (yes, that Fenway Park!) and rides the steeps of Squaw Valley to the big lines of Cordova, Alaska, plus much more. This year, don t miss original ski bum and filmmaker Warren Miller himself in on-screen interviews as he spins tales of the past as only Warren can do, reminding us that through the years, these films have truly taken audiences Here, There & Everywhere.
