The holidays bring on a contrast of emotions and speculation for possible activities for most of us.

Unfortunately, I had allowed my work and pride to get in the way of precious time with loved ones!!! I missed a few important events, and almost missed my father s 90 th birthday at the end of July!

The snow is flying in British Columbia Mammoth gets a cold dip! Colorado gets 60 in October, all melts in November heat LongBeachSkiClub.org has all the Trip and Membership forms to mail in. The holidays bring on a contrast of emotions and speculation for possible activities for most of us. When my bicycle was stolen in mid-july, it immediately occurred to me that the bike mattered not-at-all, possessions mattered not-at-all, only loved ones matter! Unfortunately, I had allowed my work and pride to get in the way of precious time with loved ones!!! I missed a few important events, and almost missed my father s 90 th birthday at the end of July! Hence, Thanksgiving with my father and sister in Colorado was special. Mom having passed away 5 years ago, this would have been my parents 65 th Anniversary. Family and friends are important, especially at this time of year! Christmas and New Year s, then, should not be a toss-up between work, working on my new house s wiring, sailing to and exploring Catalina, driving and camping up the coast, visiting friends and relatives in Portland and Seattle, travel overseas, and/or visiting Opa & Sis in Colorado. Skiing should be a higher priority in December, and a first Club Condo for Mammoth is already mostly full, Ski Camp is the week after, and the majestic Light Parade at Mammoth the weekend after that! A great many Club Members and Past Members will again share this 10-day span, a time that has become a tradition, as has Our Club s Holiday Party, December 3 rd.

2 I hope that many of you will take the opportunity to see friends at this wonderful dinner event, catered again this year by Cesar s Bistro. Please RSVP with Lance ASAP. Dinner is Free for current Members who RSVP!! Only $30 for Non-Members who RSVP. Those who show up without a RSVP won t get to sample the wonderful catered entrees. As an added treat, we ll be giving away a few centerpiece decorations. If there are any spots left for either the Big White Trip or the Italy trip, Shep may twist your arm to get you on-board. Great trips, if you have both the time and budgeted Christmas accordingly. My weather prediction for the west this season remains the same: Climate Change will bring cool temperatures and slightly higher amounts of precipitation to the west this year. The combination is most likely to result in higher levels of base and new snow than during the past few years. But, as we can see from Colorado, the warmer temperatures in November have already melted most of the 60 inches that fell during a wonderful October! So, again, we are at the mercy of how Climate Change might induce changes in the jet stream, moisture, and a parade of highs and lows. If you like skiing, and didn t get around to much during the holidays, then the Club Condo, January 5-8, might be the right thing for you! Racers will be privy to 2 races, S & GS, each consisting of 2 runs. And, Roberto is sure to put on a great Club Dinner! During December, we ll all be too busy finding a parking place at a mall, visiting relatives, and going to a zillion parties. So, Lance says to watch for a January wine tasting event, possibly at District Wine, possibly the 2 nd or 3 rd Saturday. Naturally, we all need to decompress from the holidays by comparing notes on shopping, parking, internet shopping, ski trip plans, funny relatives, and New Year s romances. While it has been good to be President for more than 3 years, this is likely my last year if I even finish the whole year. Before I go, we ll likely have on-line membership applications with a way to sign/endorse the waiver on-line, a great achievement in moving forward into the 21 st Century. We are also moving quickly to provide most information in a timely manner on the website. But, we still need a newsletter editor! Cheers! Kris

November LBSC Week Ski Trip Report - By Shep & Tara The Big White, Canada week trip is filling up, so far there are 17 LBSC members officially signed up, with their first deposit and trip application

So if you are planning on going to Big White, you need to mail in your Big White Trip Application form, with your full payment at this time to hold your spot on the trip.

NOTE: LBSC Members currently signedup need to mail in their remaining trip balance, due November 19 th to Bob Shepard ASAP.

7 Get Loose with Lance By Lance For November the club skipped having a social event. On December 3rd we are having our annual Xmas Party at Bob Miller's home. We will be giving away are table Xmas table decorations. See the attached Xmas flyer for details. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. On December 3 rd, we will have our annual Christmas party at Bob Miller s home. The Club will provide a buffet dinner for all the members. We will have a local restaurant, Cesars Bistro, featuring Latin American cuisine, to prepare and serve the food. Dinner is Free for current Members who RSVP!! Only $30 for Non-Members who RSVP. 10 Mammoth Weekend Ski Trip Report By Roberto Tovar Here is the preliminary schedule for the coming Mammoth Ski weekends! Dec 8 th thru 11 th, 2016 Jan 5 th thru 8 th, 2017 Feb 16 th thru 19 th, 2017 Mar 9 th thru 12 th, 2017 Mar 30 th thru Apr 2 nd, 2017 Weekend Trip Application at LongBeachSkiClub.org. Download it, fill it out, and mail it to me with a check made out to the Long Beach Ski Club. The address is on the form. Weekend Trip Fee is now $220 per 4-day/3-night wonderful weekend. I hope to see all of you up at Mammoth this coming season. Roberto From Shep: A new restaurant on your way to Mammoth is in Mojave, a little place called Mojave Cafe, which is where the old Road House restaurant was in the middle of town on your right. Very good food at reasonable prices also a good bar very soon. Check it out on your next trip to Mammoth. It s a good place to stop either on your way up, or on your way back to Long Beach.

In the Mammoth Village Berger's Simple, good comfort food. On Minaret Road, across from the Village Toomey's An interesting take on comfort food, bison meatloaf, anyone? On Minaret Road, down from the Village. Angel's Good rib stickin' grub, with onion rings On Main Street, just past Motel 6. to die for! Roberto's A good Mexican taco/burrito joint, but On Old Mammoth Road be prepared for noise. Further afield are: Tamarack Lodge I've never been, but have had great reports from friends who have. Up above town, in the Lakes Basin Convict Lake Inn Elegant dining, the best wine service in On Convict Lake, down 395, Tom's Place Cafe the Mammoth area. Under new owners. If a storm chases you out of Mammoth, this is a good place for a good country breakfast. across from the airport. Down 395, in the village of Tom's Place The hands down best restaurant in Mammoth, according to an overheard conversation on the town shuttle, was opened by the former chef of Tamarack Lodge. It is located on the second floor, above the bowling alley. Try it and give me a report! All of the restaurants in Mammoth Lakes can be reached on the evening Red line bus, which runs between the Snowcreek Athletic Club and Mammoth village.
