2 APPENDIX D SWIMMING/NATATION CANADA RISK MANAGEMENT / WARM-UP PROCEDURES 2009 During the designated warm-up period, the meet management committee shall be responsible for ensuring that all Risk Management/Warm-up procedures are followed. It is incumbent on all participants, i.e. meet management, coaches, swimmers, and officials to comply with these procedures. Non-compliance with these procedures will result in a warning or removal of the swimmer from the warm-up pool, and possible further reporting to meet management and the Referee for action under rule SW Meet management shall designate Safety Marshals to actively monitor the warm-up period in the competition pool and ensure compliance with these procedures. Safety Marshals should be notified of any disabled swimmers who are participating in warm-ups. Additional practice pools, if any, are to be supervised by lifeguards and coaches. Safety Marshals shall be responsible to the Referee for all aspects of safety related to conduct during the warm-up period and shall ensure that all appropriate warm-up procedures are followed. (CSW ) GENERAL WARM-UP RULES: Swimmers shall enter the water FEET FIRST in a cautious manner. No Running on the pool deck or Diving from the side of the pool. Meet Management shall provide signage to indicate designated lane use during warm-up. Notices/barriers shall be placed on starting blocks to prevent diving during the general warm-up. Diving Starts are only permitted in designated Sprint Lanes during the warm-up period. Lanes shall be open primarily for Circle Swimming during the General warm-up period. Coaches and swimmers shall allow Backstrokers & PARA swimmers the right of way for safety purposes. Meet Management may designate a Sprint Lane(s) and/or a Pace Lane(s) throughout the general warm-up period. SPECIFIC/SPRINT WARM-UP PERIOD: Sprint and Pace lanes must be opened for at least the last 30 minutes of warm-ups or as designated by meet management. Outside Lanes should be designated as Sprint Lanes. Only one-way swimming shall be permitted in Sprint Lanes. Sprint Lanes, Pace Lanes, and Circle Swimming lanes shall be clearly marked with signage. The following statement shall appear in the meet information and in posted notices: "SNC WARM UP PROCEDURES WILL BE IN EFFECT AT THIS MEET". EQUIPMENT: FLUTTER BOARDS and PULLBUOYS are allowed. HAND PADDLES and FLIPPERS (ZOOMERS) are NOT ALLOWED.

3 2011 BARRIE AQUAFEST Date: November 4 th 6 th, 2011 Location: East Bayfield Recreation Centre Livingstone St. and Stanley St. (east of Bayfield St) Barrie, Ontario (see attached map) Facility: 25m, 8 lane pool, Daktronics OmniSport 2000 Electronic Timing System with 8 lane scoreboard. Spectator seating is available outside the pool and above pool deck. Format: Eligibility: Events: Friday night will only have the 13 & over swim events. Please note the distance events are OPEN and 12 & under can swim if they qualify for the top 5 heats. For Saturday and Sunday, we will have the 13 and over ages swim in the morning sessions, and 12 and under in the afternoon. As per the new Swim Ontario Athlete Development Model there will be no finals for the 12 and under age groups. For this reason we are offering B finals in the 13 and over age groups. All swimmers must be registered with Swim Ontario as a COMPETITIVE SWIMMER. The meet will be restricted to 400 swimmers. Each swimmer may swim a maximum of 7(seven) events + relays. The 10 and under swimmers must meet 2 (two) time standards and then will be allowed to swim a maximum of seven events. They must swim the two events that they qualified for. The 400 Free and 400 IM, for all age groups, will be limited to the fastest 3 heats of swimmers. (Boys and Girls separately). The 800 Free and 1500 Free will consist of one heat of the eight fastest swimmers, regardless of age and sex and two more heats of each event with two swimmers per lane, regardless of age and sex. For a total of five heats. Please enter an alternate event(s) (ALT) if entered into the 400 free, 400 IM, 800FREE or 1500FREE. Enter ALT on the grid sheet beside those events. If you do not enter an alternate event(s) the Meet Management will use the first unrestricted event the swimmer has entered as the alternate event. Entry Fees: $ 8.00 including HST per individual event. $ including HST per relay event.

4 Entry All entries must be submitted thru the SNC website at Deadline: by: SUNDAY, October 23rd, 2011 Make entry fee cheque payable to Barrie Trojan Swim Club and submit to Meet Manager on the first day of the meet. Clubs will be notified as soon as possible if over-subscription will affect their entries. No show swimmers will be scratched after the final call for the event. There will be no penalty for a no show swimmer. Coaches meeting will take place at 7:45am on the Saturday Morning. Top 16 swimmers go to finals, Consolation finals to precede the A final. Consolation finals will only be swum in events with more than 20 swimmers (21 Swimmers or more) No session will exceed 4 ½ hours SWIMSUIT RULES: MATERIAL The material of swimwear will definitively be constituted only by textile fabric(s). The FINA definition of textile currently is: Material consisting of, natural and/or synthetic, individual and non-consolidated yarns used to constitute a fabric by weaving, knitting, and/or braiding. SHAPE MEN WOMEN swimwear shall not extend above the navel or below the knee. swimwear shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor extend below knee. No zippers or other fastening system is allowed.

5 USE Swimmers shall wear only one swimsuit, taping is not permitted. CONSISTENCY Swimwear effectively manufactured and used shall correspond to and be fully consistent with FINA approved samples. Any modification before use (including impregnation) is prohibited. Moreover, there shall be no variation/modification for individual s swimmers. Warm-ups: Starting: Awards: Results: Refreshments: The SNC WARM-UP PROCEDURES will be in effect for the duration of the meet. (Attached) The 1 start rule will be used during this meet. Ribbons for 1 st 8 th place including relays High Points Award for each age group, this is for the maximum 7 individual events only. Results for each event will be posted on the pool deck as well as the pool gallery at the completion of each event. Live results will also be available at Upon completion of the meet, the full results will be available on the SNC website, within 24 hours Food and drinks will be available just outside the pool area. SWIMMERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO EAT OR DRINK ON THE POOL DECK. THIS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. Swim Ontario policy (new this year) Meet Management acknowledged the SO policy with banning the future use of split times as official times and requires that any coach wishing to rely on a time achieved by the swimmer for an interval shorter than the total distance of the event shall so advise the Referee prior to the commencement of the session (or event) in question. In such a case, Meet Management and the Referee will undertake all appropriate steps as prescribed by their training to assure the quality and integrity of interval times. Any time collected according to this request will subsequently be recorded in a separate event of the appropriate distance and stroke created for such a purpose."

6 2011 Barrie Aquafest Coaches Information 1. Any errors to the meet entries must go to the Office each day. 2. Please have all scratches to the Offices within 1 half hour after the commencement of warm-ups each day. 3. Please have all scratches for finals given to the Office 1 half hour after the end of the morning session. 4. Please have the days relay cards into the Office within one half hour after the start of warm-ups for each session. 5. Club results/ribbons will be available following the meet, within a reasonable period of time. 6. There will be food/refreshments available for the coaches in the Official s Room. 7. Swimmers are not allowed to eat while on deck. This will be strictly enforced by Meet Management, Lifeguards and Facilities personnel. Swimmers must go to the lobby to eat. 8. Swimmers cannot use the exit doors to the viewing area; they must go through the change rooms and they must also being wearing appropriate footwear. 9. Swimmers are not to use the saunas in the men s/women s change rooms. 10. Coaches are responsible for their swimmers conduct at all times before/during/after the meet. 11. Deck entries will be accepted as long as there is space in existing heats and no new heats have to be created. All deck entries will be swum as exhibition. Deck entries will be at a cost of $10.00 per event and is due at time of entry. **New This Year** There will be no Clerk of Course so coaches are responsible to have their swimmer behind the blocks for their event and heat. Meet Management will make every effort to accommodate missed swims at the sole discretion of the Meet Referee.
