1 ILLINOIS TREKKERS FOOTNOTES NO November 2015 President: Diane Prost Directors-at-Large Vice President: Sue Bacon Rosalie Maul Secretary: Susan Hodgson Jack McKeon Treasurer: Cindy Stucky Linda Badger President s Message The fall weather has been beautiful and perfect walking weather. There have been many great walks and hopefully you have been able to participate. First was the 35 th Anniversary Walk which had perfect weather and was part of a great weekend. Thank you to Susan Hodgson for arranging the Cardinals Game for the Illinois Trekkers. Fifty-two attended and enjoyed the game. The Cardinals wished the Illinois Trekkers a Happy 35 th Anniversary on the scoreboard. Linda Neu, the Mid-America Regional Director, and her husband Stan joined us at Ballpark Village and the game. Linda walked the Anniversary walk and met many of the walkers. Thank you to Trudy & Jerry Duffman, Dale Gerlach, Kathy & Mark Mackey, Darleen Kraemer. Sue Bacon, Susan Hodgson, Muriel Barber, Packy & Sue Botula, DeAnne Brown, Dee & Leonard Wojtysiak for helping work the anniversary walk. Special thanks to Memorial Hospital for furnishing their facility for the start/finish for the walk and all the healthy snacks. The Illinois Trekkers then had their Anniversary dinner at Bellecourt Place. The food was excellent and Linda Neu presented the Illinois Trekkers with an award for a Milestone Anniversary for providing 35 years of fun, fitness & friendship. The following Saturday the Lebanon Cedar Cruisers held a walk in historic Lebanon with fifty walkers participating. On October 17 th the Illinois Trekkers again had beautiful weather to walk Carlyle Lake, past beautiful homes and across the Dean Bridge. Everyone enjoyed the walk and the weather. Thank you to Darlene Kraemer and everyone who helped make this walk a success. This past Saturday a group of walkers did the group walk in the Central West End again enjoying the sites and the weather. The Way of Lights Walk is fast approaching on Tuesday evening, November 17 th. Bring your children and grandchildren to enjoy the lights with very little traffic since the Shrine is having this night for walkers only. Mark your calendars for the Christmas Lunch and Walk on December 5, Please let Carol Reznicek know by December 1 st if you plan to attend. On January 1, 2016 the Kickoff walk of the Glen Carbon YRE Walk will be a group walk. Then On January 2, 2016 there will another group walk to kick off the St. Clair Square YRE. The Illinois Trekkers have already sanctioned the Eagle Fest Walk on January 23, 2016 in Alton, Illinois; The Soup Walk on February 27, 2016 in Freeburg, Illinois; and The Historic Vandalia, Illinois Walk on March 19 th. The trails have already been created for the Millstadt Walk in April and the club is awaiting the Village of Millstadt approving our start point location. On May 21 st the Illinois Trekkers will be walking Belleville s hidden treasure, the King s House Retreat. In June the Illinois Trekkers are planning a bus trip to Fredericksburg, Texas to participate in the AVA celebrating 40 years. The bus would leave June 8 th and return June 14 th. One walk on the trip is possibly the Little Rock, Arkansas YRE. Please let us know if you have a suggestion for a good walk to walk on the trip. More information will follow. On November 5 th the Illinois Trekkers will hold their regular meeting with the election of officers and Linda Neu, Mid-America Regional Director will be our special guest. Please plan to attend and help shape the future of the club by voting on the Bylaw changes. The Illinois Trekkers continue to walk Trekkin Tuesdays and group walks on Saturdays when there isn t a scheduled walk within 100 miles. We hope to see you on our walks. Diane Prost President, Illinois Trekkers
2 Walk on the Dry Side of Carlyle Lake IL October 10th dawned cool but sunny-a perfect day for a fall Volksmarch. While the trees had just started to change colors, 60 walkers enjoyed the view of Carlyle Lake from the top of the dam. Was the fresh mulch in the woods put down just for us? Did you enjoy the General Dean suspension bridge? There were walkers from Springfield, Decatur, Quincy, and several Missouri communities-thank you to all who came; we hope everyone enjoyed the walk as much as we enjoyed seeing everyone. A heartfelt Thank You to all who volunteered to help-especially those who went "above and beyond"--you know who you are! Darlene Kraemer Carlyle Lake walk POC Our Lady of the Snows Way of Lights Walk Belleville IL Trekker Christmas Celebration on December 5th Illinois Trekkers will host a special holiday group walk on Saturday, December 5 th at 10:45 a.m. at the Belleville YMCA. At the conclusion of the walk, we ll gather at the nearby Silver Creek Saloon for our Christmas luncheon and party beginning at noon. Unlike past years, no payment is required prior to the event. Attendees will select their own meals directly off the menu and will be responsible for paying their own bill, however, each Trekker member will receive a coupon for $6 off their food during the event. So order an appetizer if you want, or soup, salad, or pizza, it s your choice. (Please note that you will not be able to use your Trekker Bucks to cover the cost of your meals, however, you still have many opportunities to use them during the coming year.) After the lunch, we ll honor a few members with some awards and end the party with our Christmas gift exchange. Those who wish to participate in the game are to bring a wrapped gift suitable for a man or a woman ($10 value). Even if you don t participate, you will want to stick around for the fun. It can get pretty funny! It would be very helpful if we know how many people will attend the walk and luncheon. There will be a sign up sheet at the November meeting and at the Way of Lights Shrine walk on November 17th. If you don t have an opportunity to sign up there, I would appreciate it if you would send me an (crez@att.net) or text me ( ) and let me know if you plan to attend. Just a few weeks until the Snows walk will be here. This is a wonderful opportunity for walkers to see all the beautiful Christmas lights with friends and families. Enjoy the delicious Russian tea which is an annual favorite on this walk. Be sure to bring your flashlights! Sign-up sheet for workers will be at the November meeting or contact Dale Gerlach or Trudy Duffman Submitted by Dale Gerlach *Additional walk information Registration begins at 10:30.
