Welcome to Knebworth Recreation Ground This afternoon we welcome Broadfields to the Recreation Ground for a HSCL Division One clash, the first ever game between the two sides. The boys from Harrow have started the season strongly with four league wins and success in their County Cup 1 st round. I d like to welcome their players, staff, officials and supporters along with today s referee Paul Carter. We hope you all have an enjoyable afternoon with us and a safe journey home. In today s edition of our programme you will find match reports from both the First and Reserve teams along with the relevant league tables. Also today, the Non-League Paper column focuses on some wacky reasons games get called off including the recent game where a substitute player returned brandishing a pitchfork!?!?!?. We are also still looking for people to take on some small weekly or monthly tasks to share the burden of running your football club; an hour a week or a few hours each month. If you d like to get involved, please get in touch with Stuart. We are also always looking for articles for the programme so if anyone has a burning desire to go into print let me know. Or a player who fancies getting their picture and profile in a future edition.. Please join us back at the pub after the game where food is generously laid on and live sports are shown on television it s just down the road and you ll be warmly welcomed! Enjoy the game! John If you have any feedback or suggestions, programme@knebworthfc.co.uk
Non-League Paper programme column by Steve Coney OCTOBER is here, the month all us seasoned football fans fully expect the elements to start playing havoc with our Saturday afternoon fun.the inevitable will occur, so instead of getting depressed about the months ahead, perhaps this is a good time to reminisce about the more wacky reasons football matches haven t gone ahead. The Football Association are currently investigating a Combined Counties League game from a fortnight ago match abandoned after a substitute wielded a pitchfork after a mass brawl! Staines Lammas game with Chessington & Hook exploded into life after two red cards and, after punches were thrown, things got even uglier. Chessington substitute Ade Oketoki was accused of brandishing the gardening tool and the referee sensibly said enough s enough after 27 minutes. Ade is a quiet lad, he is not the type of person to go around chasing people with pitch forks, their manager Darren Woods told us. He was holding it to stop any player involved in the whole incident using it themselves. Animal behaviour there, and also at Soudley FC in the Gloucestershire Senior League. They had to implement a football ban of over a month after wild boards ran riot on their pitch twice in the space of a week. "There was a boar expert here the other day and he said they are creatures of habit, chairman Ian Marfell explained. Because it's a cut field, they like it better so they get the worms and grubs and things like that. From animal antics to people behaving like children. A kids game in Solihull had to be abandoned after parents touchline bickering. Coldlands Colts match with Mayfly Tigers was the subject of an investigation last month after players as young as seven were left in tears by the hostile slanging exchange. A report into the game stated that both management teams agreed with the cancellation to save youngsters any further upset. There was almost claret everywhere after a kit-astrophe meant Whyteleafe s game with Canterbury City had to be re-arranged. The Leafe forgot their away tops and their all-maroon number clashed with Canterbury s burgundy strip. Whyteleafe manager John Fowler made a mad dash to a local Sports Direct shop but didn t return until 3.30pm too late for referee Darren Keating who called the game off, despite having a brand new strip in hand. We are losing the spirit of the game, angry chairman Mark Coote said. Could the game not have gone ahead and then we ll talk about the consequences later? The Whyteleafe players were all ready to play but Wingate & Finchley couldn t keep theirs on the pitch. The Ryman Premier game with Thurrock was abandoned with five minutes to go after a fifth red card for the home side. FA rules state matches cannot continue if one side has only six players and needless to say Thurrock, winning 1-0 at the time, we not best pleased. But Wigan & District League side Farnworth Town refused to say game off three years ago even though they turned up to see their dressing rooms had been stolen! The 40f steel unit, containing showers and changing areas, disappeared with players forced to get ready in their cars. There was a happy ending as the Bolton-side went on to beat Ormskirk 4-3.

Match Report First Team Knebworth were back in league action against Buntingford Town FC hoping to shake off the disappointment of their Aubrey Cup defeat last week. Manager Ady Bird without captain Dale Chester, called upon first team coach Ross Murphy to slot in at centre back. In the first 20 minutes Knebworth struggled to contain Buntingford with the hosts enjoying the better of the early exchanges, and went 1-0 up as Chris Babbage headed home from a corner. Things might have gone from bad to worse for Knebworth as George Taylor was deemed to have fouled Buntingford s forward when racing through on goal. The referee whistled for a foul but the Ks defender escaped with only a yellow card much to the disbelief of the Buntingford players. Knebworth improved as half time approached but went in 0-1 down. Knebworth started the second half much the better of the two sides and like so many other matches this season enjoyed a high percentage of possession. This dominance soon resulted in the equalizing goal courtesy of an Alex Brookes (pictured) header from a Carl Smith free kick. With 25 minutes or so of the half remaining Knebworth were well in the ascendancy. However, for all of Knebworth s continued possession and pressure around the Buntingford penalty area, the Ks could not fashion the winning goal with several chances going begging. As the game entered added time, Buntingford with a rare second half attack forced a corner. Some poor marking at the back post allowed Buntingford s Babbage to steal in to head home his second and match winning goal from close range. Knebworth were left devastated and defeated. Carl Smith was named F&F Active man of the match. The game also saw Lewis Coward equal Angelo Mattia's record of 239 senior appearances - congratulations Lewis! Final Score Buntingford Town 2-1 Knebworth
F&F Active are proud to sponsor Knebworth Football Club and wish all the teams the very best for the coming season
Match Report Reserve Team Knebworth Reserves hosted Wormley Rovers last Saturday in our fourth league game of the season. It was an end to end start to the game; first a goalmouth scramble cleared by Knebworth followed quickly by a diving Jono Forde header being well saved. But the visitors broke the deadlock ten minutes in, breaking through the centre and poking past Dan Looney in goal. Knebworth piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser; Tom Douglas's low drive drew a smart save, Forde won a penalty but saw his kick saved, and James Brooke crashed a header against the foot of the post. Half time came without Knebworth capitalising on their period of dominance and Wormley took their slender one goal advantage into the break. Neither side could craft any clear chances until a defensive slip gifted the visitors a second, and some breathing space. Marcus McKechnie broke down the right and whipped in a cross which Charlie Pratt nodded into the corner of the net. This sparked Wormley into gear and they netted two well worked goals in the last ten minutes to secure victory. Raja Tandoori man of the match Marcus McKechnie. Final Score Knebworth Res 1-4 Wormley Rovers Res Match Report Veterans Team Sadly last weeks Vets game against Rickmansworth was postponed. They are in action tomorrow against Wilbury Wanderers. 15 Club History Knebworth Football Club was formed in 1901 as founder members of the North Herts League and were crowned champions on five occasions and won the county Junior Cup in 1912/13, before moving to the Herts County League in A period of success came in the 1970s with a host of championships and cup wins, often under the influence of ex-tottenham Hotspur player Johnny Brooks. Knebworth Football Club moved up the football ladder in 1983 to the South Midlands League, as well as to a new ground at Old Knebworth Lane. After five years the club returned to the North Herts League due to financial difficulties, winning three cups and a league title in two seasons, before going back to the Herts County League. There is no evidence to suggest that the club ever had a youth section, and in 1977 Doug Dilley set up Knebworth Youth Football Club initially with just an U12 boys team. The club began to grow and quickly had teams at U9 and U10 for the following season. The club continued to grow and within 25 years there were boys and girls teams representing the club from Under 6 through to Under 17 and over 200 registered players. Knebworth Football Club folded in 1995 when their ground at Old Knebworth Lane was sold as a health club. Four years later, Martyn Bond took his Knebworth Youth Football Club U18 side into senior football and re-formed Knebworth Football Club. After four successful years in the Hertford & District League the club were elected to the Herts Senior County League, achieving the FA's 'Charter Standard' award that same year and being crowned Herts FA 'Adult Club of the Year' in Knebworth Youth Football Club first achieved the FA's 'Charter Standard' award in 2004 and went on to pick up the Herts FA 'Club of the Year' in this category in both 2006 and also Further hard work and continued development saw the club achieve the coveted FA 'Development Club' status. In summer 2013, Knebworth Youth Football Club was incorporated into Knebworth Football Club. Knebworth Old Boys Football Club formed in the late 1980s as a veterans team playing on Sunday mornings, and in May 2014 agreed to join the club to bring all Knebworth football under one banner.
