Book B&F Trophies, Club Awards, Season Review All welcome and encouraged to attend Sunday will feature various matches at MHS, so come on down and cheer on the Dees. More Club News This round is Fair go, Sport! with a number of featured matches on Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday there will be a gold coin donation bake sale at MHS with players throughout the day wearing Fair go, Sport! wristbands. The wristbands and Make it Equal badges will be distributed across the grades. Would you like to be a Tech Bench Official for PL and actively support your club? We are looking for volunteers to support our Premier League Teams in Rds 17 &18. Full training will be provided on Weds 12 th August, & possibly at an additional date TBA. The Women s Premier League and Reserves teams played at MHS against Doncaster. To download the app to your iphone or Android phone visit: Men s PLR MCC 0 POWERHOUSE 9 Women s PLR MCC 3 DONCASTER 1 PL ROUND 13: TWILIGHT MATCH MATCH REPORTS MPLR vs Casey Rd 14 The Premier League teams played their Rd13 games mid-week at the SNHC. These are delayed games due to the U21 Championships held recently. Men s PL MCC 3 ESSENDON 1 Women s PL MCC 4 WAVERLEY 1 For their third game in 7 days the Men s reserves travelled down to Albert Park Lake, looking for a win against Powerhouse/St.Kilda to keep finals hopes alive. Despite warming up with a good intensity, this quickly dropped off in the early stages of the game. Perhaps this was due to the number of games in a short period of time. After Powerhouse s first few goals, the Dee s were able to keep their heads up, but still struggled to turn the game around. It appeared to be fatigue and a lack of desperation, which lead to limited opportunities up forward, and as a result cost us the 3 points as

3 MPLR report continued we went down 4-0. I think it is fair to say that on the day we were simply outclassed. However, the game was not without its positives and left us with a lot to take out for our game this week against Casey. MPD vs Greensborough Rd 14 After coming off 7 wins in a row, the 5ths spirits were at an all-time high. We ventured to the farthest corners of the earth to Greensborough. There were some interesting creatures and characters in that neck of the woods. Anyway, we started off well with a brilliant goal by Doug Hemingway through the legs of the goalie. They were quick to respond, but we managed to finish the first-half 2-1 up after Adrian Kimber scored a nice goal of the short corner that ricocheted in off the post and just crossed the line. However, by this stage we were already one man down with Birdman suffering a dislocated finger which meant that we did not have anyone on the bench. Nevertheless, we look forward to Birdman s return for the finals. Greensborough scored early in the second-half to make it 2-2 and from there it was our game to lose. We had a number of opportunities, but did not convert. After 14 rounds, the 5ths are second on the ladder hungry for the finals. Lastly, our thoughts and prayers go out to James O Brien and his family after his mum passed away last week. MPE vs Greensborough Rd 14 We started the game well and were very competitive. We moved the ball around, switching well and creating many great scoring opportunities. Our midfielders Craig McGrath, Paul O Brien, Russell Thomson and Archie Bate were moving the ball out of defence and transitioning into attack very well and giving our forwards many opportunities. Great goals were scored by Mark Scammel, Michael Lister, and Tim Martin with a great deflection off the right post and Archie Bate. Our defence kept them off the scoreboard. Josh Schmalenbach was also working well on the front line. MPE report continued We were 4 0 up at half time and playing very well. We wanted to make sure that we continued in a similar vein to the first half. Unfortunately we did not have the same intensity and skill level and we let them get 2 goals back in the second half. Great goal keeping from Steve Sharpley and good defence from Jeetu Khusal, Russell Hunter, Damien Gill, James Kelsall and Cam Evans minimised their opportunities. We did have some chances but could not convert. We won the match 4 2, our second win for the season and the song was sung with great gusto. We continue to play with good style but need to play for a full 70 minute game to get the best benefits for our efforts. WPB vs Doncaster Rd 14 Round 14 saw MCC host to Doncaster and for WPB it was an all-important match, with 'Donny' sitting 1 point above us on the ladder. Last time we met Doncaster we broke their stride, defeating what was an undefeated team - and today we were ready to do it again! Arriving at 11:45am for a 12:45pm game the atmosphere was positive. In the change rooms the motivational tunes turned into 'WPB gone wild' with Laura busting out some dance moves in the corner and discussion as to whether we break into a half time 'flash mob' (it's worth coming to watch our games - it might just happen). So after some more banter about 'the hot boy in the physics class' Kylie got us back on track with hockey delivering her pre-game words of wisdom. There was something in there about Ankles...and the first 5 minutes which seems to have become our motto. With all of the pre-game dramas dealt with; Vanessa's contact lens malfunction and Krystle and Vanessa's (yes, Ness again) mouth guard issues resolved, we were ready to go! Donny are always tough and today was no exception - these were two teams that wanted this win equally which saw the score sit at 0-0 for quite some time. Donny had difficulty breaking our defensive superstars, Orla, Kate, Isabelle, Keeley and Sarah and our distribution through to Eleanor, Anna and Ness in the Midfield to our forwards kept their defence busy at the other end.

4 WPB report continued There was a lot of back and forth until finally we broke their defence and Donna got us 1 up. By no means a safe position to be in. It was still anyone's game and it was getting quite heated and physical, both Donna and Krystle were experiencing a bit of 'love' from the keeper who kept 'hugging' them anytime they got close. We finally got some breathing room when after a bit of a tussle in the D, Krystle on the reverse slid one along the base line, behind the keeper, straight into the goal. The second half saw the creation of much more space which meant we could utilise some of our training with forwards leading into space to receive some lovely weighted balls and moving off, this is how goal número tres was created with Tess leading and receiving a beautiful ball and driving straight into the circle. As the keeper came out at her (she'd bypassed the full backs and the other Donny girls were nowhere to be seen) she passed left to Krystle who on her 'bad habit' reverse popped it into goal. 3-0 up! Now we knew we were singing! And sing we did with a final score of 3-0. The ladder is still tight with 1 point between the top 5 teams and MCC second. This competition will go right down to round 18 and the next 4 games promise to be exciting as the girls compete for their finals spot. Come down and support the girls, and maybe see a half time flash mob, if not, at least some exciting hockey! WPE vs Greensborough Rd 14 After a long stretch of away games we got to play at home and on a Saturday. We welcomed back Jenny Killick for her first match of the season and Jacqui Flynn and Kirsty Mortimer also helped out after news of Rose s out-for-the-season injury from last week. We did well against a much tougher and skilful Greensborough than we had played in the first round. In the 2nd half we especially looked very determined and really wanted the ball with lots of effective play and passing right around the field. WPE report continued you re correct. However, I got it wrong last week as Janine hit the ball in for the deflection last week, not Alex as I had reported. A 1-0 win keeps our faint finals hopes alive so on to next week against Footscray. Please send to: hao039@hotmail.com Parking at MHS Hopefully you are all enjoying the improvement in weekend parking at MHS for MCC Hockey Members with the introduction of the boom gate and the closing of the yellow gate at the weekends. Please don t park right up at the corner of the pavilion, this makes access difficult, especially for Emergency Vehicles. Access and parking for away teams will still be maintained from Alexandra Avenue. Member s access - Codes for entry via the boom gate have been sent to authorised hockey members for their personal use only.
