MATCH REPORTS MPL vs Greensborough Rd 12 Under the lights of the hockey centre on a Tuesday night the lads were keen to make amends after two weeks of tough losses at the hands of Waverley and Southern United. The warm up was upbeat and everyone was pumped! MCC began with the ball but not too long after the first whistle did it take burra to start penetrating the circle creating numerous opportunities and an eventual corner. With such a potent corner battery we knew we had a tough task at hand keeping them at bay. With Chubbs on the post anything could happen and this time unfortunately a miss-timed edge into his foot resulted in a stroke and goal for burra. After such a sequence of play MCC began to create a few attacking opportunities in the first half resulting in corners and new recruit, young Irish drag-flicker Kevin Mullins stepping up and slotting his first goal in the red and blue! Unfortunately heading into half time burra were able to sneak in two unanswered goals to lead 3-1 at the break. After a warranted rev up from coach Jarrod and the need to step up the intensity from the outset in the second half the boys came out firing creating numerous opportunities moving forward. Our front line of McIvor, Mullins and Bennett creating all sorts of havoc for burras backline eventuating in corner after corner, up stepped Chubbs producing another slower ball flick off the top to keep the Dees in it at 3-2. From there it was game on. Our backline along with our midfielders moved in sync with each other creating space plays unlike any MCC men s premier league team before them, moving the ball around like we were the burra team that has won 2 out of the last 3 finals. Unfortunately with all this great play the Dees were unable to convert and tie things up, with burra able to get a fast break and scoring off only their third circle entry for the half, in what can only be called dubious circumstances as Trails not only won the ball but also copped a fair elbow to the face! This making the game 4-2 with not much time left on the clock. Although the with time running out for us to selvage a victory, we did continue to attack and create plenty of opportunities late in the game eventually turning some great pressure defensively into a breakaway run and goal to Josh. Hopefully we can take a lot of lessons learnt from this game, on the intensity required to be able to keep up with the top teams and implement them into the second half of the season to get back on the winners list once more! MPLR vs Southern United Rd 7 After another disappointing second half against Waverley, the MCC Men s Premier League Reserve Team emphasised that that a positive start was vital and that more pressure was paramount in the first fifteen minutes to get the desired results. This talk spurred on the effort which was needed. In the first half, MCC had most of the attack and with this came multiple circle penetrations. Eventually one paid off which resulted in a penalty stroke being awarded for a terrible tackle and was confidently put away by Ben Symon. As

5 people would know when one goal is put in the floodgates can open, and another was put away in quick succession by Stuart Owen who had decided to grace us with his presence again after being overseas. Unfortunately, from then on in the first half it was mostly Southern United. Scoring three quick goals late in the first half to put MCC behind with work to do. MCC came out in the second half with the intention to bring the same fighting spirit which was shown in the first half. There were more circle entries and corner opportunities but to no avail. Costly turnovers resulted in a fourth Southern goal, making it more challenging, but as demonstrated in weeks past MCC don t give up and keep pushing until the end. With multiple short corners and even more shots at goal, just going wide, the result didn t fall the way of MCC, going down 4-2 MPE vs Altona Rd 7 We played our first game in a number of rounds at home. We started the game well and were very competitive. We continued on where we left off from last weekend. We moved the ball around, switching and creating opportunities but were not able to get great scoring opportunities. At times we unfortunately turned the ball over in the back half and this lead to Altona scoring. We were 0 2 down at half time and well in the game. We started the second half well and strung many good passes together but could not quite penetrate their back defenders. Their passing patterns, ball movement and stick skills were very impressive and much better than ours. We kept them to 0 3 until the last 10 minutes but our fitness let us down and we let in another 3 goals to lose the game 0 6. We play Melbourne High School in the local derby next round and look forward to a good game and a win WPLR vs TEM Rd 7 Cold, wet conditions greeted WPLR at TEM as the curtain raiser to the live streamed Premier League game. There were positive signs prematch, for the first time getting the Go Dees cheer in time well done Eddie. This inspired a high tempo first 5 minutes Eddie scoring off a cross to the right post from Ash and then 2 minutes later Ash driving the ball home from a penalty corner. Quick ball movement, excellent off the ball leading and constant pressure on our opponents saw three additional goals before half time Janelle, Sandy and Ash again all getting on the score sheet. The second half lacked the same intensity and ball control and TEM pressured our defensive circle but Eveline and her defensive team worked hard to defend the goal and frustrate TEM. Later in the half, the teamwork returned and three quick goals in succession from Bec, Janelle and Rach secured a convincing 8-0 victory. WPE vs Waverley Rd 7 Weather fine but cool and we were off to a good start, into attack and passing (mostly to each other) a number of chances failed to convert, yet again and Waverley snuck one in half way through the first half. Our teamwork was still looking good with plenty of passing and Jenny Knott and Kelly were playing outstandingly in the back line. We were most disappointed with the final score remaining at a 0-1 loss, but Waverley had better watch out next time. Masters 35+ BSE vs Croydon Ranges A road trip out to Ringwood in NSW (well it almost is) was what we found ourselves with on Monday evening. It was at least 3 degrees colder than in the city, and everyone had noticed, well all except our fill-in goalkeeper Cormac. He was keeping warm in his gear and diving around the circle, rather than playing out field and freezing with the rest of us, as he would normally have been doing. The main plan for the game was to ensure that Wazzer (playing for the opposition) didn't score against us. This plan was achieved, unfortunately his team mates managed to slip a couple past us, and so we had the long journey home to reflect on what could have been...and to warm up. Next week it will be different... Please send through match reports to: hao039@hotmail.com
