The three week span in the Lehigh Valley begins against Nashville SC, one of four newcomers to the USL s Eastern Conference. ABOUT NASHVILLE SC Founded in 2016, Nashville SC made its United Soccer League debut this season. The squad is under the direction of Gary Smith, who guided the Colorado Rapids to the 2010 MLS Cup. Two matches into the club s existance, Nashville has claimed one point out of a possible six. The club made its debut on the road at Louisville City FC, falling 2-0, before battling the Pittsburgh Riverhounds to a scorless draw at Nissan Stadium. COACH S CORNER Bethlehem Steel FC head coach Brendan Burke: The mindset of the team going in the home match against Nashville In terms of personnel and their style of play, they ve gone big and they are a little bit direct and I expect it to be a very physical, grind of a game. We will be starting a different group for the third time a row so every game week is a different week for us which can be an advantage when you are coming off a performance like at Tampa where we might need to see a personnel change or two and maybe some guys were exposed to it and we re ready yet or were exposed a little early due to injuries or other situations. I don t think we put our strongest team on the field in Tampa and we definitely need to reassess how we approach Nashville. From an approach and a mentality stand point, we have to be up for a fight this week, the way we were week one. On some stylistic similarities between the two teams I think that it is whoever connects with their game plan. They ve played two games and from a formational standpoint they are very different than us. They play five in the back or three in the back, however you want to look at it, and it ends up shaking out like a at times with [Lebo] Moloto staying connected to the two forwards. They have a number of big forwards to choose from but whether it s [Tucker] Hume or [Robin] Shroot, there are a number of options. It is a different formation from what we play so it looks like their wing backs are getting forward, those are actually wingbacks and not outsides. Minor but it will make a big difference in terms of how the game is played tactically.

7 2018 BETHELEHEM STEEL FC TECHNICAL STAFF Head coach Brendan Burke Burke is in his third season as head coach of Bethlehem Steel FC, coaching the squad to an regular season record during the club s first two seasons in the modern era. He was formally introduced as the club s first head coach on Oct. 29, 2015 and recently signed an extension to remain with Steel FC for the foreseeable future. During his two seasons with Bethlehem Steel FC, he has navigated 62 different starting XI combinations in 64 career matches while guiding three players to first team contracts with Derrick Jones in 2016 and the duo of Cory Burke and Matt Real after the 2017 season. Overall, Burke had coached 63 players including 25 players with ties to the first team and 12 from the Philadelphia Union Academy the past two seasons. Prior to joining Steel FC, Burke served as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Union from 2011 through He was heavily involved in all levels of the U.S. Soccer pyramid, including serving as head coach of the Union s PDL affiliate Reading United from where he had a record of During his time with Reading, Burke coached 49 players that signed professional contracts including Ray Gaddis, C.J. Sapong, John McCarthy and Matt Hedges. Burke served as associate head coach at Northeastern University in Assistant coach Stephen Hogan Hogan, who formerly served as the head coach of the Philadelphia Union s PDL affiliate, Reading United, is in his third season with Steel FC. Hogan guided the PDL squad to a record in his two seasons with Reading United. The club went and won the Mid-Atlantic Division title along with an appearance in the Eastern Conference finals. Hogan followed up with an even stronger record in 2017, tying for the most wins in the 72-team league.
