That was on display for the second-consecutive weekend as he scored once against against FC Cincinnati. After scoring the previous week against Charleston, Burke tallied his 15th Steel FC goal with a volley over the keeper in the first half. MBAIZO PROMOTED TO FIRST TEAM After joining Steel FC in the offseason via a loan with Rainbow FC, Olivier Mbaizo was signed to the Philadelphia Union, the MLS-affliate of the Bethlehem Steel FC. Mbaizo impressed the Union staff during the preseason, as the Cameroonian defender earned an invitation to train in Clearwater, Florida. STEEL FC ADDS WINGER The club announced this week the addition of 18-year-old midfielder Michee Ngalina to the club s active roster. The winger from Kinshasa of the Democratic Republic of Congo joins the club after a short trial in April. Ngalina prepped at the Soccer Institute at Montverde Academy in Orlando, Florida and has spent time with the U-17 National Team for D.R. Congo. Steel FC has picked up two draws this month, tying Charleston and FC Cincinnati with matching 1-1 scorelines. Cory Burke has netted both goals in April but the club is looking to reignite its offense that produced four tallies in the season opener. PREVIOUS MEETING Steel FC and Louisville City FC matched up last year in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals with Steel FC falling 4-0 in the club s inaugural USL Cup Playoff contest. Set pieces proved the difference in the contest, as the hosts struck for the opening goal in the 14th minute and never looked back. COACH S CORNER Bethlehem Steel FC head coach Brendan Burke: On the team s bye week... We had a bye week so we have had plenty of time to prepare for Louisville and we ll need all of that time. They don t give away much defensively and it s a difficult environment to play in on top of that. We have a big challenge ahead of us this weekend but luckily we were able to give the guys what I think was a good mixture of rest and push them really hard a couple times throughout that period. Always nice to have a bye week so you can refresh mentally and catch your breath but we knew it was important that we push hard through that period. I think we re in a good place to give them a test this weekend. On if it s beneficial to get an extra week to prepare for the defending USL Cup Champions... Yeah but it would help us if we were able to prepare the group that actually going to play against them but we won t have a chance to train that group together at any point before that game, possibly on Friday, we could train that group together. From a tactical standpoint, not too much other than the coaches get a little extra time to prepare. We might be able to be a little more nuanced but we have to be careful with how much information we give the players in that 24-hour window right before the game. On the signing of Michee Ngalina He has very good foot speed but more importantly is smooth on the ball. He s a good passer and pretty good decision maker. Obviously, there is going to be a learning curve but he brings a lot to the position. I think we have a very good and talented young core of wingers but nobody has really separated from the pack so we want to continue to challenge that group and challenge the group in the first team with quality. I think we got some high-end quality in Michee, just a matter of how long it s going to take for that to show in games but we ll throw him into the mix pretty quick.

Having not played in over two weeks, Steel FC came out aggressive at Louisville Slugger Field where Louisville had won eight of its 12 matches at the start of the night. Steel FC jumped out to a first-half lead behind Cory Burke s sixth goal of the season, as the 25-yearold converted from the penalty spot. After Louisville equalized with their own penalty kick goal, Santi Moar gave Steel FC it s second lead of the night, as he slotted home the rebound off a saved Burke shot. The goal was the forward s fourth goal of his rookie campaign. Facing off against the top squad in the USL s Eastern Conference, Louisville jumped out to the early lead on a set piece goal in the 14th minute. After a foul around midfield, Louisville City FC floated a ball into the box that was flicked on by Paco Craig. The ball found its way to Tarek Morad in front of goal and defender slotted past goalkeeper Jake McGuire. In search of a tying goal, the hosts launched a counter attack that saw a shot from Sean Totsch crash off the woodwork and fall to Morad, who tapped it in. Steel FC came out on the front foot in the second half, claiming the first three corners of the half. After a pair of chances inside the host s 18-yard-box, captain James Chambers nearly got Steel FC on the scoresheet as his shot was fired wide of the left post. Louisville City s Luke Spencer and Brian Ownby added goals in the second half as the twotime Eastern Conference finalists advanced.

8 2018 BETHELEHEM STEEL FC TECHNICAL STAFF Head coach Brendan Burke Burke is in his third season as head coach of Bethlehem Steel FC, coaching the squad to an regular season record during the club s first two seasons in the modern era. He was formally introduced as the club s first head coach on Oct. 29, 2015 and recently signed an extension to remain with Steel FC for the foreseeable future. During his two seasons with Bethlehem Steel FC, he has navigated 65 different starting XI combinations in 67 career matches while guiding three players to first team contracts with Derrick Jones in 2016 and the duo of Cory Burke and Matt Real after the 2017 season. Overall, Burke had coached 64 players including 25 players with ties to the first team and 12 from the Philadelphia Union Academy the past two seasons. Prior to joining Steel FC, Burke served as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Union from 2011 through He was heavily involved in all levels of the U.S. Soccer pyramid, including serving as head coach of the Union s PDL affiliate Reading United from where he had a record of During his time with Reading, Burke coached 49 players that signed professional contracts including Ray Gaddis, C.J. Sapong, John McCarthy and Matt Hedges. Burke served as associate head coach at Northeastern University in Assistant coach Stephen Hogan Hogan, who formerly served as the head coach of the Philadelphia Union s PDL affiliate, Reading United, is in his third season with Steel FC. Hogan guided the PDL squad to a record in his two seasons with Reading United. The club went and won the Mid-Atlantic Division title along with an appearance in the Eastern Conference finals. Hogan followed up with an even stronger record in 2017, tying for the most wins in the 72-team league. During the season that saw the club reach the postseason for the ninth time in 10 seasons, Hogan s squad conceded an Eastern Conference-low 10 goals.
