3 CHAIRMANS WELCOME Today we welcome the players, management, officials and supporters of Peterhead to Bellslea for our Pre Season Friendly match. People may say that any Buchan Derby couldn t be a friendly but a friendly it is and exactly how it should be. While they two clubs were in the Highland League we were great rivals but that was a friendly rivalry.. The Marc Lawrence loan of last season shows how the two clubs can work together and to be honest the better that Peterhead are doing then we can benefit from that. It is also good for the area if all the football clubs were doing well. I am not a great fan of pre-season matches as they are purely to get players match fit and for the respective managers to try out new players so nothing should be read into results. That being said, if we can get decent opposition then there is a chance to get some financial income out of the games. That is the case today so many thanks to everyone at Peterhead for providing the opposition and hopefully a decent crowd will come along to see how their respective clubs are looking for the new season. I missed the game last week as I was on holiday but I believe it was a great event and a good crowd turned up. That is what testimonials are all about and all the players at our level deserve everything they get given the commitment involved in part time football. As a club we are happy to see our players receive testimonials as reward for staying at the Bellslea. Long may that continue. Hopefully we get a decent game today and would like to take this opportunity to wish Peterhead the very best of luck in the coming season. They narrowly missed out on promotion last season and were unlucky that Dunfermline were in the same league but I am sure Jim will have his team set up to go that one step further and succeed. 4 MANAGER S NOTES Your first full season as Fraserburgh manager surely goes down as one of the most successful in the club's history with both Aberdeenshire FA trophies in the boardroom and a good run in the Scottish Cup culminating with the match at Falkirk. What were your highlights and what will you be looking to improve in the coming season? You have to say that both of the cup wins have got to be the highlights. We are labelled a cup team but I have said it before, how can that be a bad thing. If we are consistently challenging for trophies then I will take that every time. For me personally, the best I have felt whilst been manager of this club is that few minutes after Mark Lawrence scored against Falkirk. Maybe we were a bit naïve or possibly in shock but after that goal went in we had a brief spell where we thought could this be our day. It was a surreal moment where we actually thought we had a good chance of getting something from that game. Despite eventually losing 4-1, I would definitely say that that feeling when we equalised has to be my highlight. As for improvements, I think it has to be our home form. It is very uncharacteristic of us to drop so many points at home so this season we will aim to make teams scared of coming to Bellslea again and make them work very hard if they have a chance of leaving with anything. You have added a couple of new faces in Jamie Beagrie who Broch fans will know very well and Greg Buchan who joins from Deveronvale. What will both of these players add to the squad and are you still looking to bring in a couple more new faces? It seems like Jamie Beagrie has been around for ages but he is still young. In my opinion he is up there as one of the best midfielders in the league on his day and I am looking forward to seeing him play with Dean. I think we will have a very strong midfield this season with a great blend of attributes amongst the lads. Jamie is very clever and can read a game. He plays box to box so I am hoping to see his name on the score sheet quite a few times this season. Greg is another youngster whom I have known for quite a few years. He has a great awareness when on the park and likes to get the ball down and play. He just felt he was out in the cold a bit at Deveronvale so I decided to take a gamble on him and I am sure it will pay off. I do not intend taking on board anymore players, however if the right player comes along whom I think could improve my squad then we will pay it very close attention. You have a busy pre season schedule with six friendly matches starting today against Peterhead. How will these games shape things for the season ahead? Pre-season is all about getting ready for the first game of the season. We have done the running and now come to a different kind of fitness in match fitness. These matches will be used to give the players plenty game time, but also for us to try different things on the park. It is all about experimenting in these games. Yes we will go out to win the game as winning every match is important. However, we may also look to try things we haven't done before which will stand us in good stead for the 16/17 campaign. Finally a look back at last week and a fantastic turnout for Willie West in his testimonial match, no doubt he will continue to be an important player for the club? I have told Willie that despite having his testimonial, he still has a fair few years ahead o him in this team, so any thoughts of hanging up his boots, I hope are long gone. It was a great day for him and thoroughly deserved. The crowd turned out too which shows what Willie has meant to them over the years. Testimonials are no longer as common as they were, but here at Fraserburgh, we are lucky where the majority of the players want to stay and play for us. Testimonials are our way of saying thank you for your service. Hopefully going forward, we are involved in a lot more testimonial years as we continue to develop players through our youth set up and of course within the first team Enjoy the forthcoming season All the best, Mark.

8 Today s visitors Peterhead fc Full Name: Peterhead FC Nickname: The Blue Toon Founded: 1891 Ground: Balmoor Stadium, Peterhead Capacity 3,150 Club Colours: Home - Blue Shirts, Blue Shorts & White Socks. Chairman: Rodger Morrison Manager: Jim McInally League: SPFL Division One Football had been played in the town of Peterhead as far back as the 1870 s, but in 1890 Peterhead Football club was formed within the hopes and aspirations of a number of enthusiastic football fans in 1890, those men forming the first committee of the Club. The newly formed committee decided it was time for a properly organised team playing within the rules set down by the SFA. Within a year, the ambitions plans of those men were partly realised by the towns Feuars Managers who gifted to the newly formed Peterhead FC a piece of land within the town s Raemoss Park. Named Recreation Park, it was opened by the town s Provost Smith, who was accompanied by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in August of 1891 and became Peterhead s home for over 100 years. Peterhead began their competitive life nine years later in 1900, joining the Aberdeenshire Football Association. With just six teams competing, it was a rather short season however. They remained in the Aberdeenshire League until 1931 when they joined the Highland Football League. In this time, the club had just one success, winning the Aberdeenshire Cup in They eventually repeated this success in consecutive seasons, and The early years of the club s history also hold the heaviest defeat a Peterhead side has suffered. In season 1923/24, the club were drawn at home to Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup. Aberdeen offered the Peterhead committee 300 to switch the game to Pittodrie Stadium, a move which the committee gladly undertook. The players were not happy with the decision, and walked out in protest. This turn of events left the committee to patch together a team at the last minute to ensure the tie went ahead, but they might as well not have bothered, as the Dons routed Peterhead by 13 goals without reply. In 1939, league competition was suspended due to the outbreak of the Second World War, resuming in Peterhead were then to go through a period of success, winning the Highland League for the first time in that first season back in action. This was to prove the spark for further success for the club, winning the Highland League again in 1949 and It was nearly forty years before the club would again take league honours, winning their fourth title in , and a fifth under the guidance of Ronnie Brown ten years later. Much of Peterhead s success has come in cup competitions, none more so than the Aberdeenshire Cup, which they have won 20 times, most recently in Peterhead are also five times winners of the Highland League Cup, and six times winners of the Scottish Qualifying Cup (North). In addition they hold one Aberdeenshire Shield, again won in the highly successful campaign. Peterhead Join the Scottish League Just eleven days into the new millennium, Peterhead were voted into the Scottish Football League along with fellow Highland League side Elgin City, compensating for the loss of two clubs to the expanded Scottish Premier League (SPL). It is believed that the move from Recreation Park to the modern Balmoor Stadium, which was opened on September , had much to do with the decision although the move was not so popular among some of the community in the town. Recreation Park was bought by the supermarket chain Safeway, and is now a Morrisons store. Despite their elevation to the SFL s ranks, Peterhead remain members of the Aberdeenshire FA and are still eligible to enter the Aberdeenshire League (now an under-21 league), Aberdeenshire Cup and Aberdeenshire Shield, though the club have failed to take this opportunity in recent seasons due to fixture congestion. Peterhead quickly established themselves in Division Three, finishing their debut season in 5th place under the guidance of former Scotland International Ian Wilson, and reaching the Quarter Finals of the Scottish Cup for the first time. It was during this campaign that current manager Iain Stewart was brought to the club as a player. Following two consecutive fourth place finishes, Wilson was removed in January 2004 to be replaced by Iain Stewart. Assisted by Paul Mathers, Stewart guided the club to a third consecutive fourth-placed finish but was to buck the trend in his first full season as boss, leading the club to promotion by virtue of finishing second to champions Gretna F.C.. A year later, Peterhead came close to a second successive promotion. The introduction of a playoff system meant their third place finish gave them a chance of again being promoted alongside Division Two champions Gretna. Partick Thistle's equaliser just thirty seconds from the end of the second leg of the playoff final saw the match go to extra time and penalties, with The Jags eventually promoted to the First Division. In October 2006, the club came under the management of former Aberdeen Manager Steve Paterson with Gothenburg great Neale Cooper returning to Scottish football, as he took on the role of first team coach. When Steve Paterson left Peterhead in early 2008, Neale Cooper took over as manager joined at the club by Andy Doran. Peterhead narrowly missed out on the end of season playoffs for a place in the Scottish First Division in 2008 finishing 5th, however he guided the Blue Toon to 4th the following season and a playoff against 2nd bottom Airdrie Untied from Division One, which Airdrie won. 11 FRASERBURGH HIGHLAND LEAGUE FC STATS ROUND-UP Saturday 16 th April 2016 Press & Journal Scottish Highland Football League Brora Rangers 2-1 Deveronvale Brora came from a goal down to beat Deveronvale at Dudgeon Park and end their season with a win, with Vale captain Scott Fraser scoring at both ends. The visitors stunned the former champions when they opened the scoring in the 21st minute, Fraser converting from the penalty spot after Scott Houston fouled James Duguid. Midway through the second half Fraser got himself on the scoresheet for the second time, but this time he unluckily put the ball in his own net to level the scores. Zander Sutherland fired a chance over the crossbar as the home side pushed for the winner and it duly arrived soon after, Scott Graham heading in sub Paul Brindle s cross six minutes from the end. Buckie Th 5-0 Rothes Buckie trounced Rothes at Victoria Park to move up to seventh place in the Highland League table, with one game left to play. The visitors held out well in the opening half hour, but the home pressure eventually told and they struck twice in two minutes with goals from Lewis Mackinnon and Kevin Fraser. Chris Angus scored goal number three just three minutes from half time to put the home side firmly in control. Nine minutes after the break Kevin Fraser scored his second and Buckie s fourth goal of the afternoon and Angus fired home from the penalty spot two minutes later to notch his second and round off the scoring. Forres Mechanics 2-2 Nairn County Forres struck twice inside a minute in the second half to come from two down and earn a point against Nairn at Mosset Park. Nairn took the lead in the 13th minute when Alan Pollock s effort was saved by Stuart Knight and Glenn Main was on hand to convert the rebound. John Cameron scored Nairn s second just after the half-hour mark to put the visitors firmly in control, Knight getting a hand to his strike but was unable to keep it out. Graham Fraser threw Forres a lifeline when he headed in a corner from Andrew Howard in the 47th minute to reduce the deficit. Fraser s twin brother Lee then stunned the visitors by firing home the equaliser fifteen minutes later to earn the home side a share of the spoils. Huntly 1-3 Fort William The visitors took the lead in the 27th minute when a corner from Iain McLellan was met by Ellis who stroked the ball home from close range. Huntly equalised shortly afterwards when Ian Cruickshank rounded keeper Douglas Maclennan on the edge of the area before slotting into the empty net. In the 52nd minute the visitors retook the lead as Ellis saw a header parried by Huntly goalie Andrew Pennycook before the Fort forward scored at the second attempt. The away side added a third late on when Scott Davidson converted a penalty. Inverurie Locos 2-3 Clach Two goals from substitute Gordon Morrison earned Clach an excellent win over Locos at Harlaw Park. Locos got off to a flier with a goal inside four minutes, John Maitland swung in a low cross to the far post and Martin Laing tapped in to put the home side ahead. Clach levelled from the penalty spot in the tenth minute, Stuart Leslie firing the ball home from 12 yards after Martin Callum was tripped in the penalty area by Errol Watson. The visitors took the lead in the 31st minute, substitute Morrison hooking the ball in after a goalmouth scramble, but Locos went straight up the other end and levelled when Gordon Forsyth headed home a Maitland corner at the front post. Morrison grabbed his second and Clach s third goal a minute before the break, heading in a corner from Callum. Keith 4-2 Lossiemouth After a goalless first half, Scott Gordon opened the scoring eight minutes after the break when his deflected strike flew past David Dey from 18 yards. The home side levelled on the hour mark, Kris Duncan was brought down inside the penalty area by Chris Ross and Sam Pugh slotted home the spot kick. Two goals in two minutes looked to have won if for Keith late on, firstly Pugh drove home his second from the penalty spot in the 78th minute, then Kris Duncan raced clear to clip the ball home from 15 yards and put the Maroons two in front. Lossie grabbed a lifeline when sub Ryan Green s effort came back off the post and fellow sub Ryan Farquhar forced the rebound into the net. Keith then found themselves down to ten men when Bruce Raffell received his second yellow card for a challenge on Green. The home side sealed the win at the death, substitute Ryan Stewart finding the empty net from 25 yards after Darren McConnachie was caught upfield at a Lossie corner. Strathspey Thistle 0-10 Formartine United Neil Gauld scored eight goals as Formartine hit double figures at Strathspey. The United striker got off the mark with a good finish early on and Garry Wood then saw a penalty saved by home keeper Daniel Hoban. Formartine soon doubled their advantage when a long clearance from Calum Dingwall found its way into the Strathspey net. Gauld then got a quick-fire double, including a penalty, around the half-hour mark and scored his fourth goal of the game before the break with a shot from a tight angle. That made it 5-0 to Formartine at the interval. In a remarkable personal performance, Gauld then scored his team s next three goals, including another penalty, before Cammy Keith got in on the act courtesy of an angled drive. Gauld pounced to have the final say with two minutes remaining to ensure Formartine pipped Brora to second place in the table on goal difference. Turriff United 2-2 Cove Rangers Turriff fought back from two goals down to claim a draw against champions Cove. The visitors broke the deadlock in the third minute as a cross from Dean Donaldson was volleyed in at the back post by Stuart Duff. Cove doubled their advantage shortly before the interval when Donaldson scored at the second attempt from close range. Turriff reduced the deficit in the 77th minute as Jamie Beagrie headed home after Cove keeper John McCafferty had failed to claim a corner. The hosts then grabbed an equaliser as McCafferty spilled the ball and Nikolas Wozniak was left with a tap-in. The away side were reduced to 10 men late on when Stuart Walker was sent off for lashing out at David Booth.

15 Match reports/hfl MATCH REPORTS round up Press & Journal Scottish Highland Football League, Saturday 16 th April 2016, Fraserburgh v Wick Academy, Bellslea Park, Fraserburgh Two goals from Richard Macadie helped Wick record an ultimately convincing victory at Bellslea. The Academy forward scored his first spot-kick of the game with a neat chip just with six minutes on the clock and Fraserburgh keeper Joe Barbour then did well to tip a shot from Davie Allan on to a post. Wick doubled their advantage on the hour mark when the ball was nodded down to Sam Mackay and he crashed a volley high passed Barbour. Fraserburgh came close to reducing the deficit when a free-kick from Graham Johnston curled just wide. However, it was Wick that finished the stronger side as Macadie netted the rebound after Joe Barbour saved his second penalty in the 77th minute. Steven Anderson immediately rounded off the scoring when he netted the rebound after Barbour saved a Marc MacGregor effort. Full Time: Fraserburgh 0-4 Wick Academy Fraserburgh: Joe Barbour, Stuart Taylor, Russell McBride, Ryan Cowie, Bryan Hay (Bruce Mair 83), Dean Cowie, Aidan Combe (Bailey Simpson 46), Michael Rae, Paul Campbell, Graham Johnston (Steven Davidson 72), Grant Noble. Subs not used: Gary Weir, Danny McCarthy. Referee: Thomas Shaw. Press & Journal Scottish Highland Football League, Saturday 30 th April 2016, Fort William v Fraserburgh, Claggan Park, Fort William Early strikes from Dean Cowie and Graham Johnston helped Fraserburgh to a comfortable win at Fort William. The visitors took the lead in the 12th minute when Cameron Buchan s corner from the right was bundled in at the front post by Dean Cowie. Graham Johnston made it two just four minutes later, firing a loose ball past Robin Harvey after the home defence failed to clear their lines. Goal number three arrived in the 68th minute, Richard Tawse giving the ball away and Paul Campbell taking advantage to run through and score from 12 yards. In the 79th minute, Aidan Combe found space in the penalty area and headed into the net from Dean Cowie s set piece to seal all three points. Fort responded well and grabbed a consolation goal a minute later when Michael Ellis ball in was tapped home at the far post by Ian MacLellan. Full Time: Fort William 1-4 Fraserburgh Fort William: Robin Harvey, Barna Tot, Andreas Brromfield, David Moffat, Richard Tawse, Conor Macphee, Martin Munro (Kevin Munro 85), Stephen Rennie, Ian MacLellan, Michael Ellis, Kane Hull (Liam Taylor 65). Subs: not used: Steven Davidson, Ryan Christie, Joe Barbour. Referee: David Watt Morrison Motors (Turriff) Aberdeenshire Shield Final, Saturday 7 th May 2016, Fraserburgh v Cove Rangers, Harlaw Park, Inverurie Marc Dickson popped up with an 86th minute winner to win Broch the Aberdeenshire Shield in dramatic style. Dickson headed home from inside the box late on to get the only goal of the match and send the shield north to Bellslea Park. The Aberdeenshire Shield completes the cup double for Fraserburgh in manager Mark Cowie s first full season in management. The first half was nothing short of abysmal with neither side creating anything. The closest one team came to getting the opener was when Connor Scully s half-volley from 20 yards went just over and landed on the top of the net. The second half was a lot better and ten minutes in the Broch thought they had taken the lead, however skipper Russell McBride s header at the back post hit the side netting and kept the game goalless. Both sides were defending well and that didn t allow many clear cut chances to fall to either team in open play. The Broch defence were tight on Jonny Smith, not allowing him any room and the closest he would come throughout the game was an effort saved low to Joe Barbour s right hand side. Youngster Aidan Combe nearly opened the scoring midway through the second half, but his right-footed effort was parried away by Stuart McKenzie. Late on McBride had to be taken off because of a hamstring injury but it didn t affect Fraserburgh as with less than five minutes to go they took the lead. Ryan Cowie s floated ball from just inside his own half met the head of Dickson to direct it into the bottom left corner giving McKenzie no chance. Into injury time Cove had a corner which was headed down by Eric Watson but the Broch cleared at the second attempt and held on to lift the trophy.

16 Match reports/hfl round up Full Time: Fraserburgh 1-0 Cove Rangers Fraserburgh: Joe Barbour, Marc Dickson, Russell McBride (Courtney Cooper 84), Ryan Cowie, Stuart Taylor, Michael Rae, PA Bruce, William West, Paul Campbell, Graham Johnston, Aidan Combe (Grant Noble 83). Subs not used: Cameron Buchan, Nathan Stuart, Bailey Simpson, Kane McCrory, Edward Flinn. keeper Douglas Maclennan. Fort William had a good chance to score an equaliser late in the second half, but Barna Tot saw his effort brilliantly saved by Andrew Pennycook. Huntly wrapped up their victory in the 88th minute after Aaron Scoular and Glenn Murison linked up well on the left wing, and when the ball was played to the back post, Cruickshank was perfectly placed to supply the finish. Cove Rangers: Stuart McKenzie, Grant Campbell (Stuart Duff 31), Dean Lawrie, Blair Yule, Eric Watson, Alan Redford, Harry Milne, Sam Burnett, Daryl Nicol (Jamie Watt 79), Jonathan Smith, Connor Scully. Subs not used: Roy McBain, Stirling Smith, Stuart Walker, John McCafferty. Referee: Graham Beaton. Wednesday 20 th April 2016 Press & Journal Scottish Highland Football League Clachnacuddin 0-2 Huntly (Kai Taylor 67 og, Phillip Duncan 81) Forres Mechanics 0-3 Buckie Thistle (Kai Ross 7 & 68, Chris Angus 45) Fort William 0-3 Nairn County (Robbie Duncanson 7, 28 & 90) Saturday 23 rd April 2016 Press & Journal Scottish Highland Football League Clachnacuddin 0-0 Nairn County The first good chance of the match came in the 19th minute when following a corner by Conor Gethins, Sam Urquhart saw his effort cleared off the Clach goal-line by David McGurk. Alan Pollock was first to the follow-up, but his shot was saved by home keeper John Campbell. Both teams had opportunities to break the deadlock early in the second half, but Clach s Scott Maclean fired an effort over the bar, before at the other end a shot from Conor Gethins was similarly off target. Late on, Nairn midfielder Pollock squandered a great chance when well placed and then in the 90th minute Duncanson was sent off having received his second booking. Deveronvale 0-3 Forres Mechanics Forres opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a fine volleyed finish from the edge of the penalty area by McGovern. It did not take long for the away side to double their advantage as Fraser connected with a cross from Gordon Finlayson to flick a shot into the net. Forres added a third goal just before the interval when Fraser showed good composure to roll a shot under the body of Vale keeper James Blanchard. The hosts threatened to pull a goal back before the break when Stuart Knight did well to save a deflected shot from Kevin Souter and from the resultant corner a header from Ryan Robertson was cleared off the line.late on, the Banff side were reduced to 10 men when Scott Fraser was sent off for a challenge on Lee Fraser. Fort William 0-2 Huntly A double from Ian Cruickshank saw Huntly record backto-back wins in the Highland League for the first time since January Huntly took the lead in the 23rd minute when Philip Duncan played a pass through to Cruickshank and he coolly chipped the ball over home Turriff United 4-0 Rothes Turriff scored three late goals to earn an ultimately convincing win over bottom club Rothes. The hosts got off and running in the 13th minute when David Booth headed the ball into the net following a corner. The visitors worked hard throughout and Callum McIntosh came close to grabbing an equaliser. However, United doubled their advantage late in the game through a goal from Paul Young and they then hit Rothes with a quick-fire double. In second-half stoppage time Aaron McKenna got on the scoresheet and shortly afterwards Booth pounced to double his tally for the afternoon. SPFL Play Off 1 st Leg Cove Rangers 0-3 Edinburgh City City took a surprising lead midway through the first half with their first shot on target. The goal came through Allum after captain Dougie Gair s free kick was floated into space where Allum directed it past Stuart McKenzie from inside the area. Neither side had many chances but it was Edinburgh City that doubled their lead with less than five minute to go to the end of the first half. Left back Gordon Donaldson got on the end of opposite full back Aaron Dunsmore s low cross and from just inside the area finished it first time low into the left corner. With the last kick of the first half City extended their lead even further. Allum popped up with another after he beat Captain Eric Watson and toe poked it into the opposite corner to give the visitors a surprise three-goal lead going into the break. It took until 15 minutes to go for another proper chance for either side and it fell to substitute Dean Donaldson just inside the area, but on the half-volley he fired over the bar. With minutes to go the Highland League side were searching for a goal to keep them in the tie and Donaldson s acrobatic effort was blocked by John McDonald then cleared, leaving Cove a huge mountain to climb next weekend. Saturday 30 th April 2016 SPFL Play Off 2 nd Leg Edinburgh City 1-1 Cove Rangers A 3-0 home defeat was always going to be difficult for Cove to reverse at Meadowbank, the slowly eroding home of City, but a drab and uninspired performance in the capital saw their hopes of promotion dashed for another year. With half an hour played, they were one down and four behind on aggregate. City skipper Douglas Gair punted the ball forward from the half-way line, and it held up enough for him to latch onto. Darryn Kelly's indecisiveness in heading the ball back to John McCafferty was punished as Gair nipped in to lob the ball over the stranded Cove keeper. Jamie Watt however grabbed a consolation with five minutes to go. After Dean Donaldson failed spectacularly at an overhead kick, Sam Burnett's volley at goal was skied and the diminutive Watt squeezed a header past Amos from an acute angle.

21 CLUB SPONSOR Past encounters Fraserburgh and Peterhead have met on numerous occasions over the years with the local rivalry seeing some hectic encounters between the two combatants. Below is a selection of matches from the past which detail the nature of the fixture since it was first played back in September 1910 in the Qualifying Cup which the Broch won 3-1 Highland League Cup 1 st Round, 14 th August 1974 Probably the second most famous result in the Broch s history after the Dundee Scottish Cup win as the Black and Whites put the home side to the sword. Wednesday 14 th August is one of those dates etched in Broch fans memories. At a rain soaked Recreation Park the Black and Whites gave their deadly rivals a 10-0 hiding in the League Cup!! Hunter opened the scoring on 13 minutes and Duthie made it 2-0 after 26 mins. It was 3-0 with Hunter scoring again and Bowie made it 4 after 34 minutes. Esslemont made it 5 on 39 mins and Noble grabbed a sixth just before half time. The second half was more of the same with Noble making it 7-0 on 50 mins the Bowie scored twice to complete his hat-trick and Make the score 9-0. Fraser completed the rout 4 minutes from time to make the final score Peterhead 0-10 Fraserburgh. The teams that night were: Peterhead: Connell, Ewan, Rennie, D. Summers, Sievwright, Coutts, McKenzie, English, Watson, Cheyne, Beattie. Sub: Cameron. Fraserburgh: Forsyth, Cardno, Newlands, Stephen, McCann, Duthie, Fraser, Noble, Esslemont, Hunter, Bowie. Subs: Gammack, Sharp. Aberdeenshire Shield Final, 27 th November 1996 This match goes down as the greatest comeback that many Broch fans will remember in all their years of watching the side. Having beaten Huntly 2-1 in the semi final thanks to a winner by 17 year old Russell McBride, the Black and Whites faced off against their bitter rivals at Allan Park, Cove. Colin Milne gave the Blue Toon the lead on 29 minutes and the same player doubled the lead on 59 minutes. It looked all over when Clark Killoh deflected a shot past Billy Gordon to make it 3-0 with just 17 minutes remaining and Kris Hunter s goal shortly after looked to be a consolation. But as the clock ticked towards the 90 th minute Michael Stephen crashed home a free kick and Peterhead were rocking. Into stoppage time and the aforementioned McBride made it 3-3 to take the tie to extra time. The Broch players were chappin at the bit to get started as the Peterhead players were standing about looking at each other in disbelief. It took only two minutes for the Broch to score through McBride and Ian Murray then made it 5-3 four minutes later. Hunter put the icing on the cake to make the final score Fraserburgh 6-3 Peterhead. The teams that night were: Fraserburgh: Gordon, Young, Michie, Clark, A. Stephen, Geddes, McCafferty, Murray, Killoh, Hunter, Milne. Subs: Norris, M. Stephen, McBride. Peterhead: Pirie, McCredie, Cormack, King, Simpson, Bridgeford, McKenzie, Yule, Milne, Brown, Smith. Subs: Rattray, Beadie, Robertson. Referee: Alan Freeland Aberdeenshire Cup Final, 29 th March 1997 This is a special match for a couple of reasons as it would be the last ever final at the old Recreation Park in Peterhead as the club were moving to the newly built Balmoor Stadium and the Broch would have both Aberdeenshire FA trophies in their boardroom just as they have now. The Broch had beaten Huntly 2-1 at the Bellslea in the semi final with Russell McBride notching both goals. Their was a huge crowd inside the ground and the Broch took the lead in 16 minutes through James Geddes but a double from Colin Milne on 16 and 26 minutes had the home side ahead at the interval. Ian Murray squared matters three minutes after the break and the introduction of Paul Keith changed the game. The ball broke to the Broch striker outside the box and he cracked a volley past the Peterhead keeper into the top corner to take the Cup back to the Broch for the first time in 21 years. Final score Peterhead 2-3 Fraserburgh. The Fraserburgh team was Gordon, Milne, Michie, Clark, A. Stephen, Killoh, Geddes, Murray, McBride, Hunter, Thomson. Subs: P. Keith, McCafferty, Young. Scottish Qualifying Cup (North) Final, 8 th November 1997 The Peterhead fans amongst the support today will never tire of remembering this match whilst it is a day that all Broch fans who were at Huntly will want to forget. The weather was foul for a start with the rain hammering down all day long. Yule had Peterhead in front on 4 minutes and before the Broch knew what had hit them Milne doubled the lead on 8 minutes. The same player made it 3-0 six minutes later and Smith scored a double on 22 and 45 minutes to make the half time score Peterhead 5 Fraserburgh 0. There was to be no special comeback in this game as the Blue Toon turned the screw, Clark made it 6-0 and further goals from Paterson and Cormack made it 8. Final score Peterhead 8 Fraserburgh 0. The teams that afternoon were Peterhead: Pirie, Clark, Cheyne, King, Simpson, Yule, Smith, Paterson, Milne, Brown, Livingstone. Subs: McKenzie, Cormack, Baxter. Fraserburgh: Gordon, Milne, Michie, A. Stephen, Geddes, McBride, Norris, Murray, Keith, Hunter, M. Stephen. Subs: McCafferty, Killoh, Wemyss. Referee: W Young, Clarkston. Overall the clubs have met on 267 occasions in a competitive match. The series record stand at Peterhead 125 wins, Fraserburgh 92 wins and 50 matches have been drawn. Sadly the derby matches are confined to friendlies or testimonials now apart from the odd Aberdeenshire Cup or Shield match but I m sure that today s fixture will have plenty goals and incidents for both sets of supporters to talk about on their way home.
