1 Parents, As we begin the Fall season we do so looking forward to the sights, sounds and smells to come. With each season we can conjure up images of the many different experiences that we have had growing up during each of the four seasons. But as I have said in the past, Fall is my favorite season of the year. Growing up in rural Johnson County, just north of Nineveh, I can remember the seasons very vividly as each one had it s own weather, activities, and sights and sounds. Winter had the holiday seasons and the lights and colors that goes with it, Winter had the cold mornings of feeding cattle in the dark before school, of sitting by a wood stove to get warm, and it had the sounds of cheering crowds at a local high school basketball game. Spring would be a fresh smelling time with lots of freshly cut grass, new flowers, plowed fields with good, rich dirt, and newborn calves. Spring would be welcome to the end of a long, cold winter, and a time when dormancy would give way to new life. Spring would be a time of planting crops, halter breaking calves and first cutting hay. After Spring would run it s course, the warm, busy days of summer would be upon us. The heat, the sun, and the storms were a part of our summers. Being in a barn loft when it was 95 degrees, bucking bales of hay, and looking for that last bale on the wagon. Drinking cold water from the deep well, jumping in the pond on a hot day, playing catcher on the baseball team, were all memories of summers past. Summer was time away from school and time spent working with my dad. Showing cattle at the local 4 H fair and moving on to the Indiana State Fair was a fun time. But then Fall would come! Living on a farm in the Fall was the best. I can remember staying home from school (excused) to help my dad cut silage and fill the silo with chopped corn to feed the cattle for the next 365 days. I remember riding on a combine for the first time and seeing the world from an entirely different view. It was like watching a big HD TV with a steering wheel and lots of moving parts! The sound of the corn running through the combine, hearing this behemoth of a machine shell the kernels of corn off of thousands of ears of corn within seconds was amazing! Fall was a time of harvest. Harvesting crops and vegetables that had dried down from their green colors of spring and summer. Weaning calves that were born in the spring was a noisy experience that included the weaned calves balling for several days because they missed their mothers. Harvesting firewood that we used to heat our farmhouse was a normal passage of Fall. We would head to our Brown County farm on Saturday mornings, loaded with chain saws, fuel and oil, and bring back a pick up or two of firewood in preparation for winter.

2 Fall has it s beautiful colors that paint the landscape like an artist paints their canvas. It smell of cornstalks after the combine runs through the field, of burning campfires, and of wet leaves all piled up ready for us to jump in. The sounds of Fall are as equally memorable. Tractors pulling wagons, PA announcers at football games, people singing around camp fires, calves bellowing for their mothers, and chainsaws running at full throttle to harvest wood before winter sets in. The sights and sounds of Fall are awesome. While the sights and sounds have changed over the years, the seasons remain the same. Winters are cold and snowy, Spring is green and newborn, Summer is refreshing and hot, and Fall is full of many fragrances, many beauties of nature, and many memorable sounds. Fall is my favorite season of the year. I have found over the years that it is an ending point and a starting point. I love to watch football, sit by a fire, and listen to tractors driving by. I thank God each day that He has allowed me to follow His plan for me, one season at a time. Have a great start to the Fall and we will see you at Mass this weekend! We had a great year, totalling over $27,000 in sales $2,400 of that in direct cash donations! Way To Go Lions!! 6 RONCALLI WRESTLING We are very happy to be kicking off our first season of the Rebel Wrestling Foundation in September. This program is designed to introduce our athletes to the great sport of wrestling and create genuine interest and awareness among both parents and children in this exciting and rewarding sport. RWF is also designed for the more advanced wrestler, as we will provide opportunities that will allow the athlete to continue to grow and flourish in our sport and in life. One of the reasons we love wrestling is that the sport instills a great number of positive life skills and traits. Some of the things your child can gain from our sport include: Self Reliance, Self Discipline, Self Confidence, Self Respect, Sportsmanship, Responsibility, Work Ethic, Competitive Spirit, Goal Orientation, Mental Toughness, Drive & Determination, Respect for Others, Hard Work, Perseverance, and Physical Fitness. We are very proud of the organization and structure this wrestling club provides for the development of our youth. With the support of the Roncalli community we believe we will soon have the best club of this nature in the nation. The Roncalli Alumni Association is sponsoring a pre game tent party On the Circle beginning at 5:30 p.m. for the Chartrand High School and Kennedy High School Classes of 1967 celebrating 50 years since their graduation. Football players and cheerleaders from the Class of 1992 will also be honored at this event. Come and help celebrate a Roncalli victory at the post game tent party at McQ s Pub & Eatery immediately following the game for alumni and friends with special musical guest, Zanadoo!
