2 APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion to approve the Minutes dated October 4, 2012: Jasmine Gomez (SAC Engineering Club); Second: Huyen Nguyen (Christian Students at SAC). Approved unanimously. Motion to approve the Minutes dated October 11, 2012: Jasmine Gomez (SAC Engineering Club); Second: Hoang Vo (Pre-Med Association). Approved unanimously. PUBLIC FORUM Public Forum is any event/information not related to the clubs. C.A.P.E.S. Club: Next week, Thursday November 8 th, at 11:15a.m. in room R-228, they are going to have a guest speaker. Jessica is a journalist and she is going to talk about the environment and about her personal career. Student Actors Studio: Danny Gonzalez is putting together a Drive for Hurricane Sandy to help all the people in need. If you need anymore information, contact Danny Gonzalez at & runhomedan@gmail.com. Also, the Theater Department is hosting a movie tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday in room P-105. It is free so come and join them. President Lopez: He said to those people that can vote, to go out and vote. Let your voice be heard and remember to vote on the propositions that affect us as students. REPORTS Executive Reports President Eduardo Lopez: Mentioned that SAC is switching in enrollment and that is going to be funded. Like the Bush s administration, No Child Left Behind. SAC right now is funded based on enrollment, so the number of students that come to SAC dictates how much money we get and how many programs we get to have. There are going to be a lot of cuts. He also mentioned that if proposition 30 fails to pass, it is going to affect all community colleges and is going to affect all the students as well. Secretary Mayra Villagomez: No report. Club Reports Additional clubs that were present did not have club reports for this meeting Circle K Club: They have been gaining more members every week. They will be also attending Fall Training Conference this weekend. They are very excited to learn more ways to improve their club and to help other clubs as well. They will be participating in the International Festival and they will be representing the USA. They will be having a fall dance, Illuminate the Night. it will be on November 16 th from 5:30p.m.-10:30p.m. Family of Colors: They meet on Thursdays from 3:00p.m.- 4:00p.m. in Room I-103. And they are also planning a Coming Out Event. 2
3 REPORTS (Cont.) Club Reports (Cont.) International Student Association Club: They announced that the International Festival is next week November 7 th from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. They will be having foods and performances from many countries. Puente Club: They announced that the Talent Show will be going on during the winter, and they do not have a date or time yet. IDEAS Club: They will meet on November 7, 2012, from 12:00p.m.-1:30 p.m. in Room R-114. Student Actors Studio: They will be having a workshop tomorrow from 1:30p.m.- 3:30p.m. They mentioned that the general output of club activities has been successful. Club Med at SAC: They will be having their first meeting this Friday. SAC Engineering: They started their construction on the pumpkin launcher. The competition is going to be on November 10 th at Cal State Fullerton at 10:00a.m. Choir Club: They are working on SAC Idol and they are also setting up tables to get sponsors for their club. Spanish Language Club: They have a meeting today from 3:00p.m.-4:00p.m. They are also having Dia De Los Muertos Today from 5:00p.m.-8:00p.m. They are ready for their event. Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society: They will be meeting on November 14 th and 28 th. They will be adopting two families for the Adopt-A-Family Project. They will be having a table out in the Quad on November 20 th from 11:00p.m.-2:00p.m. for 4C Committee Reports No Reports Advisor Reports Advisor Linda Morrow reported: Leave-A-Legacy Ceremony: Next week is the ceremony for the Leave-A-Legacy winners. It is going to be on November 8 th, from 11:00a.m.-12:00p.m. at The Spot. Student Resource and Service Fair : The Fair is on November 14 th at The Spot from 11a.m.-6:00p.m. Social Media Sites: If you haven t yet gone on to the website, you can like ASG/ICC Twitter and Facebook on the website. This way to do so that way you can keep up with the ASG and ICC news. Gem of the Week: Daniel Marquez wants the ICC Board to do the Gem of the Week. This week it is regarding mundane motions or motions that are not likely to be opposed; the Chair may pass a motion by general consent. Ratified Clubs/Spring semester: For the clubs that are ratified this semester, there will be less paperwork to do next semester to get ratified. Club Constitutions: Remember that you have two weeks after your club has been ratified to turn in the constitution. Club Meeting Rooms: Also the club meeting room requests are pending, but most of the clubs already have their room. 3
4 REPORTS (Cont.) Advisor Reports (Cont.) Club Ratifications Today: Five clubs are being ratified today: Club Apple, Club Med at SAC, C.A.P.E.S., SAC Pre-Med Association and Spanish Language Club. The 3 clubs that haven t been ratified have until Monday to turn in their paperwork. New Club Officer Training/Orientation: She also mentioned that in the new officer orientation 15 people showed up. It was a very successful orientation. International Festival: International Festival is on November 7 th, and Circle K and the Spanish Language club are participating. Remember that if you are selling things to fundraise, you have to complete paperwork so that Linda can know what your club is selling. Activity Request Timeline: Linda reminded the clubs that they have do have to submit Activity/Event request forms 3 weeks in advance of the date of their event. ICC Meetings/Advisor availability: After 11:00a.m. on Thursdays she is no longer available because she is getting ready for the ICC meetings. If you need to talk to her on Thursdays, do it before 11:00 a.m. Last 2 weeks of Semester: There are no activities allowed during the last 2 weeks of the semester. Adopt-A-Family Program: All clubs are welcome to adopt a family for thanksgiving. If your club is interested, they have to fill out a form and turn it in to John Vu in Service Learning. The last day to turn in the donations is November 20 th and it can be clothes, food, toys, and gift cards. No perishable food. Club Account Forms: Clubs have to establish an account after they are ratified. The only way the clubs can do fundraising is only if they have a club account. So have your President, Treasurer and another member, or an advisor, sign it and then take it to Linda. OLD BUSINESS ASG Halloween Event: Hope you had fun. President Lopez saw many of the club members and he also saw a lot of great costumes. International Fair: Will be next week, on November 7 th. Hope you go and have fun visiting the different booths that are going to be there. Club Ratifications: Five clubs are being ratified today: Club Apple, Club Med at SAC, C.A.P.E.S., SAC Pre-Med Association, and Spanish Language Club. Motion to ratify the five clubs mentioned above: Lilia Brito (Family of Colors); Second: Danny Gonzalez (Student Actors Studio). Approved unanimously. Adopt-A-Family: We are adopting a family of 5-7 members. Lilia Brito has been appointed as the Chair of the Adopt-A-Family Committee. Student Resource & Service Fair: Will be on November 14, 2012: 11:00a.m.- 6:00p.m. We will need volunteers because it is going to be a long event. We also need a committee for this event. 4
5 NEW BUSINESS Student Success Survey: President Lopez appointed himself as the Chair of the committee. He wants students to take a survey before and after the student Resource Fair to see if it helped students. He needs volunteers to be part of the committee and help out with the surveys. Club Banners: If you are a new club; make a design that will represent your club and submit it to Linda. That way it can be posted with the rest of the existing club banners in The Spot. ANNOUNCEMENTS Next meeting: Presidents Meeting: November 8, 2012 at 1:30 3:00 p.m. Leave A Legacy Ceremony: November 8, 2012 from 11:00a.m.-12:00p.m. in The Spot. Adopt-A-Family: November 1 st -20 th : Collection of Donations; November 21 st : Distribution of Donations to Adopted Families.
