This is just a reminder to all parents sending in medications for their children to take at school. (Over the Counter) medicines need to be in original packages and have a permission note from the parent with them. Students can bring them to school and give them straight to the nurse. The note must state dosage, time to give, and student name and room number. This includes cough drops! Prescription medicines must have the original pharmacy labels that show the prescription number, date filled, doctor s name, directions and child s name. Suggestion: Send only the doses needed at school. Most pharmacies will give you a 2nd bottle with pharmacy label (empty) for you to send school doses in. When no longer needed, an adult must pick up any medications. NO MEDICINES WILL BE SENT HOME WITH STUDENTS. Parents are encouraged to send children back to school when you feel they are ready. However, they must be fever-free (without medicine), vomit-free, and diarrhea-free for 24 hours before they return. That means 24 hours from the last episode! This month, we are learning about the value of initiative. Initiative is when you see what needs to be done and you do it! Each day, at home and school and when you re playing, you may come across something that needs to be done. We are not talking about huge things like building a skyscraper or ending world hunger! Things that need to be done could be turning off a faucet in the bathroom that was left dripping, a dirty floor that needs to be swept, a friend that needs to be encouraged or a pet that needs to be fed. Can you look around your home right now and see something that needs to be done? Help your child make the connection between his or her initiative, and your ability to trust him or her with different tasks or responsibilities. 2 Nutrition Can Be FUN!! During the week of October 11-15th, each school cafeteria will be celebrating National School Lunch Week. This year s theme is Discover What s on Your Tray Challenge. Students will discover the importance of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains on their lunch tray, along with the importance of physical activity. During the week there will be prizes raffled to those students who participate in the lunch program. Some of the exciting prizes include two tickets to the Center Grove vs. Warren Central varsity football game, stuffed Colts teddy bear, Colts memorabilia, and stuffed fruit and vegetable characters. Center Grove Boot Camp CG Athletic Booster Club is sponsoring a boot camp to be held Tuesday & Thursday mornings from 5:20-6:20 am: Session 1: October 5-November 18 $39/person Session 2: January 11-February 17 $36/person Session 3: February 22-March 24 $30/person Session 4: April 12-May 19 $36/person Participants should complete the registration form & waiver form, and bring all information to the first day of club. Choose costumes that are bright and flame retardant Use face paint vs. masks to avoid visual impairment Avoid costume knives, swords, and oversized shoes Make certain children cross streets at corners and never between parked cars Clear porches, driveways, lawns and sidewalks of potential tripping hazards Avoid giving out gum, hard candies and small toys to reduce choking hazards Paint pumpkins vs. carving (hand injuries increase 25% around the holiday) Keep pets indoors. Instruct children to stay away from all pets even if they are familiar with the animals. Explain that pets will not recognize them in costume and they become unpredictable on Halloween night due to unusual activity. S W E E T T I P S... Eat a good meal before heading out Establish consumption rules prior to trick-or-treating Label plastic sandwich bags for each day of the wee.. Divide candy into bags and once the bag is empty, they must wait until the next day for more. Set rules that candy follows a healthy snack or meal Help kids decorate plastic sandwich bags. Fill bags with Halloween candy to share with neighbors and friends without kids or deliver to a local fire station as a token of appreciation for their services. Offer to trade a household chore or a ten minute bedtime extension for a set amount of candy. Inform caregivers and grandparents of established rules. Me like candy... but me mommy make me eat dinner first! Enjoy more Halloween fun at the museum during special activities for the season, including several Feast with the Witches options, a Family Late-Night Adventure and Scout late-night Adventures.
