The 26 th of August is Daffodil Day and our school will be supporting this charity by selling merchandise at recess and lunchtime. Merchandise will be on sale for $1 and $2 starting from next Monday the 22 nd of August. Last year E.P.S raised over $350 for Cancer Council SA. Please support this worthy charity by allowing your child to buy some items. Thank you for your support in advance. Week 5 Monday is dress up day for book week. Remember to dress up as a character from an Australian book. Get all your costumes and makeup together and transform yourself into a character from an Australia book. If you are having trouble finding inspiration for your costume, pop into the library and have a look at the display of Australian books. Angel and Chloe

2 P a g e 2 Books Galore! Congratulations to Punsisi (Rm 5); Naomi (Rm 9); Labeeb (Rm11); Lewis (Rm 16); Nagmi (Rm 7). These people each won a $10 book voucher! Ash T. gussed that there were 155 sheoks in the jar and also won a voucher. Thank you to everyone for your support. The Book Fair was a great success! The Book Fair is happening in week three to week four from the 10th to the 16th of August. The Book Fair is an event held every year at our school library. It is an opportunity to buy books, posters, stationary and much more. Students can go to the library before and after school to buy the things that they want. Students also get the chance to go to the Book Fair shop and create a wish list of the items they would like to purchase. This year the Book Fair store was open to the public on Saturday morning. This is the first time they have opened the Book Fair to the public. I enjoy The Book Fair because there are many new books to choose from and the stationary is really cool. The Book Fair is a fundraiser to raise money for the library to get new books. All the people that I have talked to all love the Book Fair. 3 P r o d u c e d b y S t u d e n t s P a g e 3 Australia winning the gold! Catherine Skinner winning the gold for shooting. Australian Catherine Skinner won a gold medal for Australia in shooting. She was competing against Natalie Rooney, the Olympic shooter from New Zealand. This Victorian Olympian was tailing the competitor by two shots but came back to win Catherine Skinner has been practicing shooting all her life. When Skinner was little she loved watching her father shoot. She was only twelve when she got her junior shooter s license and now her father is extremely proud of her winning the stunning gold medal. By Dimitri H Source: Herald Sun Cupcakes! Cupcakes! Cupcakes for sale! Last Friday was cupcake day. It was a fundraiser to raise money for the RSPCA. The cupcakes were two dollars or one dollar. We really enjoyed all the cupcakes and want to thank everyone who donated, helped out in the canteen, organised the event and anyone who was involved. We raised an enormous amount of money for the RSPCA and hope that our efforts help some animals. Angel V Thank you to everyone who helped out with fundraising for RSPCA Cupcake Day. Students, parents/carers and staff all pulled together to make it a very successful event. We made over $346 which is a huge effort. It's wonderful to know that the money we raised will go towards making the world a kinder place for animals. 4 School Sport Edwardstown not knocked out of SAPSASA Knockout Netball On 10th of August Edwardstown SAPSASA Knock Congratulations to the Edwardstown team because they won by 10. The score was 17 to 27 out Netball Team went to St Raphael Primary School to play netball. and now they re through to the Semi finals, Good game girls. Emma said it was an amazing experience seeing the team bond after the game. Thank you to all the parents who supported the team and drove them to the game and back. Sophia said it was a good game and all the girls played well and did their best I can t wait!. By Emma YEAR 1/2 WINTER BASKETBALL Last Friday saw the EPS showdown for the 1/2 winter basketballers. It was a hard fought battle resulting in a two all draw and a three all team fouls each. Couldn't ask for a more evenly matched game. The children should be congratulated on displaying their school values on the court, respectfully doing their best! Their sportsmanship behaviour and conduct should be admired. 5 P r o d u c e d b y S t u d e n t s P a g e 5 SOCCER End of Season Soccer Break-Up Saturday 3 rd September, 9.30am start at EPS Kids vs Parents and presentations Please pop this date in your diary now! U8 Soccer carnival Last Monday our U8 soccer team had so much fun at our soccer carnival. Lucky it didn t rain, we played Unley, St Thomas, St Leonards and Goodwood. We won 1 game, drew 2 games, and lost one game! So a pretty good result. Thanks everyone for coming and making it a fun night, the kids loved it! Thanks Tania Under 10 Gold v Highgate A beautiful Saturday morning with an early start saw us kick off out of the dew at Mitcham Primary School. Another great team effort followed on from the last few rounds & many goals were scored as a result. With very solid defence also allowing through only one goal for the game, everyone should be super happy with their input. Fantastic to see goals resulting from team play & passing as well some flashes of individual brilliance. A week off this round then back at home for the last game. Looking forward to finishing the year off in style!

This will be the final order of the book and with a special offer could be as little as $25 (valued at $54). ORDERS CLOSE ON FRIDAY, 26TH AUG. On Friday the fifth of August the year 7 s went to the Science Alive fair at the Royal Adelaide Showgrounds. One of the things we did was watch a presentation about STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) There was a guy who taught us how hydrogen is flammable, they showed us a demonstration with a balloon blown up with hydrogen and a lighter. They put the fire on the balloon lightly and it burst and made a really big noise. My highlight of the trip was being able to go all over the place and not just as a big group. You ra- Jacob interrupted. Wait, what do mean attach themselves to me? Dave answered in an ominous tone, Those machines don t just grab you. If someone was in the cold grasp for too long, the machines will implant their core programming system directly into the victim s brain. My heart froze with fear. Do I have their programming in my brain? I didn t trust Steve or Dave much but now I was suspicious of them. Could they have their brains taken over by these mysterious machines? My suspicious thoughts must have crept in to my expression because Steve chuckled and said, Don t worry Jacob, we haven t been taken over by them. There is a secret to escaping them you have to thi- There was a large boom and the room collapsed. To be continued...
