Ovrviw on th proposd National Trasury has announcd that a will b implmntd by Th ssnc of this tax is that ach rgistrd tax paying ntity in South Africa will b liabl to pay on its dirct (Scop 1) grnhous gas missions. Th tax rat has bn st at R120 pr tonn of CO 2 quivalnt with th first 60% of missions not bing taxabl. Thr ar also som rlif masurs such as trad xposur, bnchmarking and carbon offsts. In practic, companis will pay btwn R24 and R48 pr tonn of CO2 on thir missions from fossil ful combustion. Companis with missions from fuls (disl and ptrol) usd for mobil combustion will s an impact through th ful lvy. Th ky lmnts in th draft Carbon Tax Bill includ: 1. Only companis that own or control combustion installations (g boilrs, industrial furnacs, gnrators) with a capacity of 10MW or highr will b ligibl for th on stationary combustion in th first phas (up to 2020). 2. Consumption of or LNG by individual Bidvst companis sm to b undr th 10MW thrshold for stationary combustion and thus will not pay dirct. Cost for and LNG may b incrasd undr th ful lvy if usd for mobil combustion 3. Ful (ptrol or disl) for mobil combustion will b taxd undr th ful tax rgim. It is anticipatd that lvis will b incrasd in this rgard by approximatly R0,12/. Thus companis that consum disl and ptrol will xprinc incrasd costs through th proposd ful lvy. 4. Th tax will b mad mainly rvnu nutral through th implmntation of, among othrs, a rduction in th currnt lctricity lvy. It is stimatd that th lctricity pric could incras btwn R0,01/kWh and R0,03/kWh and this would b passd through by Eskom. 5.
