AZTECS ON THE AIR > Friday s game against San Jose State will be streamed live on the Mountain Digital Network. Saturday s and Sunday s contests will be broadcast on 1700 AM radio in San Diego. > In addition, live stats will also be available for all three contests vs. SJSU. HEAD COACH MARK MARTINEZ > Mark Martinez is in his third season as head coach of the Aztecs although he is in his 12th season as a member of the San Diego State staff. He is just the fifth head coach in SDSU history since baseball was elevated to major sport status in > His record as head coach at SDSU stands at (.527). > Martinez was hired as an assistant coach for the Aztecs prior to the 2006 season and served for nine years under Head Coach Tony Gwynn. During that time, he was promoted to the position of Associate Head Coach. > Prior to his arrival at SDSU, Martinez was an assistant coach at the University of New Mexico for 17 seasons. PITCHER OF THE WEEK > Senior lefty Brett Seeburger earned his first conference Pitcher of the Week award for his performance in the second game of Saturday s (March 25) doubleheader at Fresno State. > In that contest, he tossed a one hit shutout over eight innings, allowing just an infield single and facing one batter over the minimum. > Seeburger retired the first 14 batters he faced before allowing a two-out infield single in the bottom of the fifth inning. He went on to retire the next 10 batters through the eighth inning. > Over his eight innings of work, he struck out a season-high seven batters and did not allow a walk, while throwing 97 pitches. > For his effort Seeburger was also selected a National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball and the Madness Mountain West Baseball Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com. TREJO COMING ON > Second baseman Alan Trejo is currently on a 15-game hitting streak during which he is batting.342 (26-for-76) with six doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI and 17 runs scored. > He had a string of scoring at least once in 11 consecutive games end in the loss at USC on Tuesday (March 28). He has now done so in 14 of the last 16 contests. > Trejo leads the team in runs scored, doubles and stolen bases. > He led off the contest at No. 25 USD on March 14 with a home run on the first pitch of the game. BIBLE RETURNS > Last week, sophomore outfielder Chad Bible made just his second appearance since beginning chemotherapy treatment for Hodgkin s lymphoma that was diagnosed in January. > As a pinch hitter in the bottom of the eighth in the contest vs. Long Beach State March 21, he doubled down the right field line to drive home SDSU s final run in the victory over LBSU. > Bible started in left field in each of SDSU s first five contests this season, going 6-for-20 with a double and an RBI. > He also made a pinch-hitting appearance on March 7 vs. USC and is now batting.318 in the seven games he has played. MARTINEZ SOLID AT DH > Designated hitter Andrew Martinez had a pair of hits in the game at USC on Tuesday (March 28) to raise his batting average to.317. > He connected for his third home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the game vs. Long Beach State on March 21. > He also had a run-scoring single in that game to end the night with three RBI. > He has been the Aztecs designated hitter in 24 of their 25 contests in > Martinez played the past three seasons at UC Irvine, graduating last year with one season of eligibility remaining after redshirting there one year (2013). > The native of nearby Chula Vista (Mater Dei HS), he chose to compete for the Aztecs in his final season. NEVAREZ GOES DEEP > Catcher Dean Nevarez saw a season best four-game hitting streak end in the series finale at Fresno State on Sunday (March 26). > Over those four games he went 7-for-12 (.583) with a double, two home runs and seven RBI. > His two home runs came in the series finale against UNLV in San Diego on March 19. > He is the second Aztec to homer twice in a game this season as Tyler Adkison accomplished the feat against Nevada in Reno on March 11. CALABUIG HEATING UP > Prior to Tuesday s contest at USC., center fielder Chase Calabuig had gone 12-for-39 (.308) over the previous 10 games with four doubles, two triples, a home run, six RBI and seven runs scored. > He had a.590 slugging percentage over those 10 games. > In the first 14 contests of the season, he had totaled seven hits and posted a.171 batting average, which he has raised by over 60 points (.232) in the last 11 contests. SAYLOR STANDS TALL ON THE MOUND > Senior right-hander CJ Saylor has recorded five saves along with a win this season as the Aztecs closer. > His latest save came last Saturday (March 25) when he tossed the ninth inning of SDSU s 5-4 win at Fresno State. > After surrendering his second and third earned runs of the year in the finale at Fresno State on Sunday (March 26), his ERA now stands at 1.93 and opponents are hitting.235 against him. PURPURA IMPRESSIVE > Senior left-hander Dominic Purpura had his second no-decision of the season in the opener at Fresno State on Saturday (March 25). > In that contest he tossed six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. > In both of his no-decisions in 2017, the Aztecs rallied to win the game. > His six strikeouts in his first appearance of the year vs. Pacific on Feb. 19 tied his SDSU career high..
