HEAD COACH MARK MARTINEZ > Mark Martinez is in his third season as head coach of the Aztecs although he is in his 12th season as a member of the San Diego State staff. He is just the fifth head coach in SDSU history since baseball was elevated to major sport status in > His two-year record as head coach stands at (.508). > Martinez was hired as an assistant coach for the Aztecs prior to the 2006 season and served for nine years under Head Coach Tony Gwynn. During that time, he was promoted to the position of Associate Head Coach. > Prior to his arrival at SDSU, Martinez was an assistant coach at the University of New Mexico for 17 seasons. SAYLOR STANDS TALL ON THE MOUND > Senior right-hander CJ Saylor has had a hand in each of SDSU s last three victories. > He recorded his second save of the year at Long Beach State on Tuesday (Feb. 28) when he came on in the eighth with the bases loaded for Long Beach State and finished the contest without allowing a run. > In his role as closer, he tossed the final inning in the victory at Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 21 to pick up his first save of the year, > On Saturday (Feb. 25), he tossed the final 2.1 innings as the Aztecs came back to defeat Notre Dame, 7-6. He was credited with the win in that contest. > Saylor served as a catcher during the 2014 campaign when he hit.212 in 14 games. > As SDSU s closer in 2015, he compiled a record of 3-3 with 11 saves and a 5.02 earned run average. > In 2016, Saylor was one of SDSU s primary catchers, appearing in 30 contests and batting.289. > Saylor s two saves this season give him a career total of 13, a number that ties him for sixth on the all-time Aztec saves list.
