AZTECS ON THE AIR > All three games against New Mexico will have live video streaming available on the Mountain West Network. > In addition, live stats will also be available for all three contests this weekend. > Links for the broadcasts as well as live stats will be on the SDSU web site (GoAztecs.com). > A total of 14 of SDSU s 31 home games this season will have live video streaming on the Mountain Digital Network. > In addition, nine contests will be broadcast live on ESPN 1700 in San Diego with the remaining 13 carried live on KCR. SERIES RECORD > San Diego State s record against New Mexico stands at The Lobos are one of three teams against which SDSU has recorded 100 wins. HEAD COACH MARK MARTINEZ > Mark Martinez is in his third season as head coach of the Aztecs although he is in his 12th season as a member of the San Diego State staff. He is just the fifth head coach in SDSU history since baseball was elevated to major sport status in > His record as head coach at SDSU stands at (.552). > Martinez was hired as an assistant coach for the Aztecs prior to the 2006 season and served for nine years under Head Coach Tony Gwynn. During that time, he was promoted to the position of Associate Head Coach. > Prior to his arrival at SDSU, Martinez was an assistant coach at the University of New Mexico for 17 seasons. SAYLOR SAVES > Senior right-hander CJ Saylor has recorded 11 saves along with a win this season as the Aztecs closer. > He picked up his 11th save of the year when he tossed the final inning in the Aztecs 5-4 win at UC Santa Barbara on Sunday (April 23). > He threw one scoreless inning last Tuesday (April 18) at UC Riverside as he struck out three of the four batters he faced. > Saylor s ERA now stands at 1.50 and opponents are hitting.188 against him. > He has recorded 21 strikeouts and one walk in his last 13.1 innings pitched (13 appearances). PURPURA IMPRESSIVE > Senior left-hander Dominic Purpura suffered his first loss of the season on Saturday, April 22, at UNLV. > In marked the first time in10 appearances that SDSU lost a contest that he started. > His 2.32 earned run average in conference games continues to lead the Mountain West entering the week. > He recorded the pitching staff s only complete game of the season in the 7-3 win over San Jose State on April 1. > His six strikeouts in his first appearance of the year vs. Pacific on Feb. 19 also tied his SDSU career high. BIBLE RETURNS > In the contest at Long Beach State on March 21, sophomore outfielder Chad Bible made just his second appearance since beginning chemotherapy treatment for Hodgkin s lymphoma that was diagnosed in January. > As a pinch hitter in the bottom of the eighth in the contest vs. Long Beach State March 21, he doubled down the right field line to drive home SDSU s final run in the victory over LBSU. > Bible started in left field in each of SDSU s first five contests this season, going 6-for-20 with a double and an RBI. > He also made a pinch-hitting appearance on March 7 vs. USC and is now batting.318 in the seven games he has played. AZTECS ON NATIONAL WATCH LISTS > Four San Diego State baseball players have been named to a trio of postseason national awards watch lists. > Danny Sheehan is a candidate for the 2017 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award while Brett Seeburger and Dominic Purpura are on the list for National Pitcher of the Year. In addition, closer CJ Saylor is on the 40-man Stopper of the Year award watch list. > Sheehan, a senior from Covina, Calif. (South Hills HS), is currently hitting.333 with 11 doubles, three home runs, 31 RBI and 33 runs scored over 42 games. His fielding percentage stands at.970 and he has been involved in 35 doubles plays. > Seeburger, a senior from Monrovia, Calif. (La Salle HS), enters the week with a record of 7-1 and a 3.38 earned run average. SDSU s regular Friday night starter, Seeburger is first in the Mountain West in earned run average. > The other Pitcher of the Year candidate is SDSU senior left-hander Dominic Purpura (Hinsdale, Ill.), a second-year Aztec by way of Orange Coast College.
