3 Meet the Coaches Head Coach Jay Grenier Jay Grenier enters his fourth season as the head baseball coach at Rhode Island College. He owns a career recor d of as a collegiate head baseball coach. RIC turned the corner in 2003, improving to overall and 5-9 (sixth place) in the Little East Conference from overall and 2-12 (seventh place) in The Anchormen were 6-22 overall and 2-12 (eighth place) in the Little East Conference in his first season at the helm in Grenier, who hails from North Smithfield, was previously the head baseball coach at the Community College of Rhode Island, a position he held since During his tenure as the head coach at CCRI, the Knights were a consistent regional power. He was named the NJCAACoach of the Year in both 1994 and He was the Louisville Slugger Region 21 Coach of the Year in 1993, 1994 and Prior to taking the job at CCRI, Grenier was an assistant coach for the Knights from He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Rhode Island College in 1981, a position he held through the 1985 season. He has also served the head coach of the Rhode Island Reds, a New England Collegiate Baseball League team. Grenier has also worked as a hitting coach for the Chatham A s of the Cape Cod Baseball League and as an envoy coach to Jamaica with Major League Baseball International. Grenier, a 1981 graduate of Rhode Island College, is a middle school language arts teacher for the city of Central Falls. He is also the owner and director of the Rhode Island Baseball Academy located in North Smithfield. He resides in North Smithfield, Rhode Island with his wife Debbie and their children Chelsey and Garrett. Assistant Coach Brad Bustin Brad Bustin enters his fourth year as an assistant baseball coach at Rhode Island College. He is the team s pitching coach, recruiting coordinator and also assists Head Coach Jay Grenier with all phases of the RIC baseball program. Bustin was an assistant under Grenier for five seasons at the Community College of Rhode Island from where he was the Knights pitching coach as well. He was a pitcher/outfielder during his undergraduate days at Bridgewater State College. He earned a bachelor s degree in physical education from Bridgewater State in In addition to his coaching duties, Bustin teaches health and physical education in the Fall River (MA) school system. A native of Somerset, Massachusetts, Bustin is a 1989 graduate of Somerset High School. H e resides in Fall River, Massachusetts with his wife Traci and their children Brayden (3) and Abbie (1). 7

4 Meet the Coaches Assistant Coach Marc Pantazis Marc Pantazis enters his fourth season as an assistant baseball coach. Pantazis assists Head Coach Jay Grenier with all phases of the RIC baseball program. He joined the staff after spending the 2000 season as an assistant coach at the University of Maine. He specializes in working with the team s hitters and catchers. He was a catcher on the Black Bears baseball team for two seasons in 1998 and Prior to playing at Maine, Pantazis was a catcher for Grenier at the Community College of Rhode Island for two seasons in 1996 and He was part of the Knights squad that went to the Junior College World Series in Pantazis earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from the University of Maine in May He owns his associate s degree in liberal arts from CCRI in May He is originally from Londonderry, New Hampshire and is a 1995 graduate of Londonderry High School.
