The Wildcats and Boilermakers will meet on Friday, May 5 at 5 p.m. CT and Saturday, May 6, at 5 p.m., before closing out the series on Sunday, May 7, with a noon first pitch. Northwestern (17-26, 6-9 B1G) enters the weekend stint at Purdue coming off its most successful month of April in the last seven seasons. The Wildcats posted 11 wins in April, the most since the 2010 season. The month featured series wins over Air Force, Iowa and Penn State. The Wildcats are looking to make its first appearance in the conference tournament since Entering the weekend NU sits in 10th place with a 6-9 mark in Big Ten play, just one game out of the eighth and final spot. SCOUTING PURDUE Purdue (25-17, 9-6 B1G) is the most-improved team in the nation and are in the midst of a seven-game win streak, its second such streak of the season. The Boilermakers finished the 2016 campaign overall and 2-22 in Big Ten Play. Purdue is slated to pitch RHP Tanner Andrews (7-2, 4.31 ERA) in the opener followed by LHP Gareth Stroh (4-3, 4.45 ERA) on Saturday, while RHP Mike Komacker (1-2, 5.11 ERA) will close out the series on Sunday. Purdue has won each of the first six games of its current homestand, good for the program s longest home win streak since winning seven straight at Lambert Field in April The Boilermakers 5-1 home record in Big Ten play is a big reason why they entered May among the top eight in the league standings vs. chasing a conference tournament berth. The Boilermakers have not taken a series from Northwestern since the 2012 season. JOSH DAVIS >> Josh Davis has stepped up in his last three starts. The senior has thrown 17.0 innings with 17 strikeouts and only one walk. He led the way to wins over Western Michigan (April 11) and Milwaukee (18). On Tuesday at Notre Dame, Davis went 6.0 innings and matched a career high with six strikeouts. PERFORMANCE PROFILED

2 STARTING PITCHING Wetherbee has been as steady it comes for Northwestern this season. The senior left-hander has tossed 41.1 innings and boasts a 31:12 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The Piedmont, California, native has appeared in 15 games this season with five starts and has a team-best 2.90 ERA. Last time out, Wetherbee tossed five-scoreless innings and had a career-high six strikeouts against Michigan State. His best start of the campaign came against Chicago State (March 29) when he went a career-long 7.0 innings pitched, only issuing two walks in the 26 batters faced. Christie is the only Northwestern pitcher to start a game every weekend this season. The freshmen right-hander has thrown a team-high 54.2 innings and has struck out 39 batters, while only issuing 16 walks. The Oak Park, Illinois, native has helped Northwestern to five straight wins in his last five starts. His best start of the season came at Santa Clara (March 4) when he only allowed one run in a complete-game effort. His performance earned him Big Ten Freshman of the Week. Christie went 6.2 innings at Penn State (April 23) his longest Big Ten outing of his career and allowed no earned runs, five hits and struck out four. Gannon will make his 10th start of the season on Sunday. The tall lefty has tossed 37.2 innings and has held opposing hitters to a.267 batting average. Gannon s best start of the year came at Penn State (April 29) when he tossed 6.0 innings of scoreless baseball, surrendering three hits and fanning one. HONING IN ON HOSCHEIT Joe Hoscheit has been one the best players in the Big Ten this season. In conference games, Hoscheit boasts a.429 batting average, which ranks second among Big Ten batters. The two-time Big Ten Player of the Week ranks in the top five among the league for total bases (46), doubles (7), RBI (24), runs (17) and hits (24) in conference games. His 24 RBI in conference games leads the Big Ten. HOPPY IS HITTING Matt Hopfner enters the weekend leading the team in hits (51), doubles (14) and runs (34), while his.300 clip at the dish places him second on the team. His 14 doubles this year place him in a tie for first among Big Ten batters. The Edina, Minnesota, native has collected 16 multihit games this season, including five 3-hit performances. Against Illinois (April 15), he recorded an inside-the-park home run the first for an NU player since Joe Hoscheit did it in SHOOTING ERRO Alex Erro has been a tough out for opposing pitchers this season. The freshman has played in all 43 contests and is batting.292, which is the third highest average on the team. Erro has only struck out nine times in 168 at-bats this season (K/18.7 AB), which ranks him 10th nationally in the toughest-tostrikeout category. Erro had a team-high 17-game hitting streak snapped on March 24 in game two of a doubleheader against Indiana. MILESTONE WATCH With a start in each game this weekend, sophomore Jack Dunn will have played and started in 100 consecutive games every game since he s stepped on campus. Joe Hoscheit has eight sacrifice flies this season, which ties him with J.P. Williamson for most in a single season by a Northwestern player. His eight sacrifice flies place him third nationally. Hoscheit has belted 20 home runs in his career and needs just two more dingers to crack the top-10 all-time at Northwestern. Hoscheit enters the weekend with 194 hits in his career and needs just six more to reach the 200-hit plateau. Matt Hopfner joined the 200-hit club earlier this season with a base knock against Indiana on March 26. Former Wildcat Zach Jones reached the milestone last season in a contest against Purdue. Matt Hopfner has 223 hits in his career entering the weekend and needs just two more to crack Northwestern s top-10 list. The Edina, Minnesota, native is four hits away from catching current New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi (227), who sits in ninth all-time. LOOKING AT LAWRENCE Sam Lawrence has been brilliant out of the bullpen this season. The freshman left-hander has appeared in a team-high 17 games, eight of which have resulted in games where Northwestern has won. He has a 3.63 ERA (third lowest on the team). LOOK BACK AT LAST SEASON Northwestern swept Purdue last season at Miller Park, which included a 3-0 shutout in the finale. Matt Hopfner hit.400 (4- for-10) with a double, while Joe Hoscheit and Jake Schieber each had three RBI in the series. Reed Mason set the tone on the mound, going 7.0 innings and striking out seven in the opener and Tommy Bordignon pitched 5.1 scoreless innings in the finale to help beat the Boilermakers Quick Facts Location: Evanston, Ill.
