Directions from New Orleans/Gonzalez: Take Highland Road North for about 10 miles from I-10 Exit 166 (this avoids heavy I-10 traffic around Essen and Bluebonnet) Directions from downtown Baton Rouge: Take College Drive (turns into Lee Drive) south about 3 miles from I-10. Turn left (east) onto Highland road for about 2 miles.

3 LNS NEWS: LNS and Entergy will be sponsoring a Boy Scout Nuclear Science Merit Badge program again on Saturday October 9, 2010, at River Bend Station. 73 Boy Scouts, ranging from 8th graders to high school seniors, earned their Nuclear Science Merit Badge at River Bend Station in St.Francisville, LA, during the initial presentation of this program on November 14, The Scouts toured the River Bend simulator and were shown a simulator demonstration, toured the Emergency Operations Facility and the River Bend Energy Education Center, and participated in a dressout into anti-contamination clothing, as well as covering all of the required material for the Merit Badge, including nuclear physics and nuclear energy production. The program attracted Scouts (and 32 Scout leaders and/or parents) from the region, from Carencro and Lafayette to the west to the New Orleans suburbs of Mandeville and Covington to the east. LNS/ANS members putting on the program included Rich Buell, Joe Campbell, Chris Pontti, Paul Sicard, Greg Svestka, Jan Wilson, Erich Weinfurter, and Natalie Wood. Members of WIN (Women In Nuclear) and NA-YGN (North America - Young Generation in Nuclear) also assisted with the program, with materials provided by the Deep South Chapter of the Health Physics Society. LNS and Entergy will be sponsoring a Girl Scout nuclear activity day at River Bend on Saturday September 11, Girls attending will be able to earn the "Planet Power" activity badge and will participate in activities similar to those from the Nuclear Science Merit Badge program. Please let Paul Sicard (psicard@entergy.com, (225) ) know if you would like to help with these Scouting programs this Fall. LNS, WIN, NA-YGN, and Entergy will also be making presentations on Nuclear Science and Nuclear Energy at the Girl Scout "Swing Into Spring" program at Camp Marydale in St.Francisville on Saturday March 27. If you are interested in making nuclear science presentations at local schools, LNS can provide assistance and handout materials. Contact one of the LNS officers for this. It is time for annual LNS elections. Dues-paying LNS members can vote for officers for the coming year. Members should fill out and return their ballots by March 19. Please consider joining LNS to be part of activities promoting nuclear energy and nuclear science in Louisiana. Dues are only $5 for a two-year period (currently ). A membership form is attached.
