2 Since we ve got the article this month, we ll focus on reporting what the chapter accomplished in October. On the 7 th, Roger Moraes, Douglas Loyd and John Hein rode to Fairfield for the Ride for Kids event where they donated the money Roger collected from our chapter s yearly contributions. Funny thing is (if funny is allowed in this matter) is that the shirt the event gave out exactly matched the color (jade) of our CA2S shirts. Funnier yet, Douglas tried to pass it off as a CA2S shirt at our gathering to get a shirt point. Whether it was his plan or not, I don t know. Nice try, though. The next Saturday, the 13 th, Ralph and Robynn accompanied Nancy & Bob to CA2R s rally in Redding. CA2R puts on a really good rally. Sorry I couldn t make it. Friday before the monthly gathering, John Hein and Roger Moraes co-led a small contingent including Tim (?) and Alan and Sandy Hepburn on a RTE (Ride To Eat) to Jim s Café in Pleasanton for a 83 mile ride. Funny thing (another funny thing?), John kept calling Alan, Paul, and Alan didn t seem to mind. At least he didn t call him something bad. :o\ Saturday the 20 th was our gathering and we were missing a few regular faces. So what! We still had a load of laughs. I tried to beat out Sal s corny jokes by running 13 plus Halloween joke questions in a row in rapid succession. We gave a raffle ticket to the first person to answer a joke question before I gave the answer. Some of these were so bad that it was a bit of a shocker when someone would blurt out the correct answer. A couple of the answers were questionable and deserved a good wash your mouth out with soap response. He-who-must-not-be-named knows who I m referring to. Still, it was funny. I think I may have given Sal s jokes a run for the money, then again Also at the gathering, it was our pleasure to present 2018 participation pin hanger bars to Patti and Sal Esposito. So far 15 people have received 2018 hanger bars this year and there are still more to follow. Rocky also earned the hanger bar, but I had to mail it to him. There should be a picture and an article in this newsletter from Rocky. Another presentation was to Sandy Shewey. She received a You Make A Difference certificate and pin for taking over the chapter stores, which we were thankful to hand over. Most everyone in GWRRA knows (or should know) what a Wingnut award/honor is. Many chapters have a different name for it, but it is almost always given to someone for his (or her) bonehead or Uh-Oh moment or act. Well, since our first CA2S meeting, some unfortunate victim has fallen prey to someone s reenactment of one of these occurrences, or even to the storyteller s imagination and sometimes outright lies, but in fun, of course. Back then it was just a small metal wingnut on a chain that you had to keep with you until the next meeting or suffer a mild case of financial hardship. Then, Sal found a red wingnut hat that the recipient only had to wear once (until you received the honor again), but it was much easier to accept by the receiver. Well., we now have a new iconic crown to replace the wingnut hat, which more represents our mascot. Yeah, it looks like a fish hat, but not just any ole fish either. It is a shark and it is called the Shark of Shame, and looks totally ridiculous when worn. I kept it under wraps until some poor sucker was selected. Bless Sal s heart, he was the first wearer of this inauspicious headgear for (no less) nominating himself for deliberately forgetting his vest because his Chapter Director patch was still attached, but didn t include the Former patch. A picture of him wearing it should be somewhere in this newsletter. I m sure glad Sal is a good sport. Also on the 20 th, Paul and Ralph went to Streetmasters on this and last year s CA2S Streetmasters raffles. It was their first times. 3 October wrapped up with CA2S annual Halloween Party. Same-o same-o, except, except it is always a blast and a lot of fun. We didn t have as large a turnout as we hoped, but it didn t matter. Games were played, food was et, contests were won and everyone went home happy; pretty much. What, not enough detail? Well (in my mind) you asked for it. Paul and Ruth did a great job of decorating their home and cooking up the main dish. Actually, they always do an excellent presentation. Thank you very much! Besides Paul & Ruth, there were Bob & Donna, Ralph & Robynn, Douglas, Bob Gilbert and Lori and Gary. We started the games after dinner because everyone was having a great time just chit-chatting and it didn t seem right to interrupt that. We brought along a Nerf Zombie pistol and everyone took turns shooting zombie heads (for points) and then shooting fake pumpkins (for points). Of course some thought it necessary to shoot other people (not for points), but I won t give names. Other activities included a spider catapult game and juggling weighted balloons. We also bounced eyeball ping pong balls into a bowl of Rice Krispies, until Paul & Ruth s 90-lb. puppy discovered the bowl and it was all we could do to salvage the cereal. He definitely had his mind set that the Rice Krispies were his. Bob and Donna brought Halloween goody bags for everyone, with plenty of treats and goodies. Way to go you new MECs! Hoot! Hoot! Now what would a costume party be without a costume contest. Right? Everybody looked great, but only one person can win the prize. Lori and Robynn came as two of the witches from Hocus Pocus. They portrayed them well. What!? I m not being facetious or mean; they looked great. They wanted me to go as the third witch, but Nooooo Wayyyyy!!! I went as old fart Clark Kent Superman Reveal. No one guessed who I was until I revealed my blue and red undies (tee-shirt for those that needed clarification). Bob and Donna were pirates sporting gold doubloons, while Douglas was Death. Ruth was a shark (trying for the double P.P. points) and Paul was one of the members of ZZ Top. I guess he s the one with a long beard (now I m being facetious). Bob came as Bob and really looked like himself. Kudos to Bob! But, Ralph won with his Jack Skellington costume. Ralph also managed to win the overalls for the games, so he walked away with both prizes. Ralph may not be asked back next year. Just kidding, or am I? Overall, the party was a success and if you weren t there * * * * * * * * * Elsewhere in this newsletter is a list of upcoming events and rides scheduled through the end of The biggest event remaining is the CA2S Christmas Party the evening of December 15th at the Omega Restaurant. Please try to make this event as a lot of time and planning goes into them. Besides, they re lots of fun! There s a poll out, so respond if you haven t already. Until next month, be active, show some chapter pride, and of course ride! Friends and extended family. It has been great reading about all your adventures the last few months. Things sound like they are gaining more momentum as you finish out the year's events, etc. Fun,fun, fun, and more fun! Love the newsletters and all the updates and announcements Gary puts out. Very creative! I do miss the monthly gatherings, rides, and the friendships that I was a part of in San Jose. The parking lot practices were always fun to look forward to. Honing our slow riding and braking skills was, and is, always a challenge we need as accomplished riders. And then all the social events throughout the year to participate in and build those memories from GWRRA. Beverley and I are keeping very busy with getting our new house all sorted out from the move. Many things need to be made ready for the rainy season that is on the way. Although, currently the weather is perfect for a spirited ride up the coast on Hwy. 1 (in my backyard!) I managed to pick up a part time job doing security for The Sea Ranch Association. I get to drive around in a brand new SUV with lights and a siren patrolling the Sea Ranch where we are living. I tried getting them to let me ride Pearl while on patrol, but they didn't see it my way. Besides riding HWY.1 at 11:00pm with deer and fog might not be the best plan. Anyway, we are really enjoying our new home on the coast. The weather is perfect. The community has a lot to offer. Art shows, jazz concerts, farmer's market, library, tennis courts, gyms, spas, and best of all the ocean views. I haven't made any definite plans yet, but I might be headed back down your way after the holidays for some business in San Jose. Maybe I'll get a chance to drop in to say hi. Till then, as I always said, "Remember if the wheels ain't turnin, you ain't learnin!" Cheers, Rocky Past CD/Educator CA-2S CA2S Shark Bytes 5
