1 Poinsettia Palette The holidays are fast approaching. Karen Lewis s CD snowman ornament is really cute. I hope lots of you will be at the November meeting to paint ornaments for your family and friends. Please be sure to sign up for the luncheon on Dec. 3 rd. Terrie and Jeanne are working hard to make it a very special day. The quilt drawing will be at the luncheon. We are selling tickets at the quilt guild meetings in November. I hope you are also selling as many tickets as you can. If you have a group where you would like to show the quilt, please let me know and we can arrange it. The quilt sells itself. I want to thank the board and members of the club for your helpful suggestions and your on-going enthusiasm. Your support means a lot. Susie Majesky s redo of the website, poinsettiapainters.com, has generated some new members and it is a great referral when people ask about the club. 5 A big thank you to all our members who took Heart Boxes. I distributed about 80 boxes. PLEASE, PLEASE return them at t he November meeting. The Conejo Valley Woodworkers will distribute them in the first week of December. In 2010 we gave them 137 finished boxes. 9 RECIPE BOX SPLIT PEA SOUP 1 Ham bone or hock (Honey Baked is best) 1 lb. smoked sausage (we like spicy or hot) 1 lb. split peas 6 cups of water 1 onion 1 T. butter 1/4 tsp. savory 1 cup milk 1/4 tsp. thyme 1 T. flour 1 tsp. salt 1 stalk of celery Place all ingredients except milk, flour, butter and cheese in slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hrs, Remove ham bone & dice u p meat. Turn heat to high and add milk. Combine flour and butter. Stir in until thickened. Serve with grated cheese. Submitted by Carla Kincaid Palette Knife class With Diane Trierweiler Coffee Cake 1 pkg. yellow cake mix 4 eggs, beaten & add 1 at a time 1 small box instant 3/4 cup Crisco oil vanilla pudding 1 tsp. vanilla 3/4 cup water 1 tsp. butter melted Layer Nut Mixture 1 cup chopped pecans 1/4 c sugar 2 tsp cinnamon Glaze 1 cup powered sugar 1/2 tsp. vanilla 3 T. milk 1/2 tsp. butter, melted Preheat oven to 350. Grease and lightly flour a bundt cake pan. Mix cake mix & vanilla pudding. Add oil and water, mix, add eggs one at a time. Beat with mixer at high speed for 6-8 minutes. Add vanilla. Sprinkle part of nut mix into bottom of pan. Layer batter with nut mix, ending with batter on top. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes. Remove from oven and let sit for 10 minutes. 11 Poinsettia Painter s General Meeting Minutes of October 10, 2011 The meeting was called to order at 7:07 p.m. by President Marilyn Harvey. Guests were introduced. Cathy Villa gave the Treasurer s report. There is $ in the checking account and $ in the savings for a total of $ Jeanne Lanquist presented the program for the evening, painting boxes for Interface. She announced the program for November. Karen Lewis will teach a snowman on a CD. A reservation sheet for the Christmas Luncheon on Dec. 3 rd. was circulated. Peggy Jones announced a prep session for the coming seminar at the Newbury Park Library at 10 a.m., Wed, October 11. The seminar is October 21 and 22 in Santa Paula at the Episcopal Lutheran Church. Cost for the seminar is $45 for one day and $75 for two days. The Mystery Paint-In is Janaury28, It is $30. Space is limited. She also told about some future seminars. Gail Hamilton took notes for the meeting as Patti Messi was away. Daphne was absent. A membership sign-in was circulated. Current membership is 64(?). Carla Kincaid announced that she will be combining the November and December Newsletters. She would like to deadline for articles up a bit. There was discussion regarding the need to postpone the deadline for a week or so and issue the newsletter after the first of November. Barbara Masci handed out boxes for the evenings painting. Jeanne Landquist was taking Tenderlife Maternity donations to Terri. September Hospitality was provided by Inez Holt, Willeen Summerford and Donna Pinkerton. Names were given to Delana for Sunshine cards. The newsletters are now posted on the website. Willeen Summerford showed the quilt and urged people to keep selling the tickets. Volunteers are needed to take the quilt to some of the other groups. Peggy will take it over the weekend. Marilyn is contacting the Quilt Guilds. The cost of the quilt is approximately $500. Marilyn thanked Terrie for her work in setting up the display at the Oxnard Library. It will be there until the end of October. Tommie Cochran presented the slate of officers for President, Marilyn Harvey; Vice President Programs, Terrie Busse and Jeanne Lanquist; Vice President Paint-Ins and Seminars, Peggy Jones and Karen Lewis; Treasurer, Cathy Villa; Secretary, Patti Messi; Membership, Daphne Hetherington; Hospitality, Jeanne Lanquist; Newsletter, Carla Kincaid; Ways and Means, Shirley Rudman; Sunshine, Delana Stafford. President Marilyn Harvey asked for nominations from the floor. There were none. Jeanne Lanquist made a motion to accept the slate of officers as presented. Seconded by Cathy Villa. Motion carried.
