Did you go swimming this summer? to None 7 D I D YO U K N OW? According to: : NBC kicked things off with a bang on Fri., July 27 with 40.7 million people tuning in for the opening ceremony, making it the most-watched opening ceremony for a summer or winter Olympics ever. Many schools across the country are making cuts to fine arts programs and other extra curricular activities. A September 2008 article from The Advocate titled Get Smart by Dr. Bryan Shelly, research has shown that students who participate in co-curricular activities weather it be sports, fine arts, or active members of an organization are preform better academically and on standardized tests, and a correlation of having better chances of going to college and having success. The article also points out that if students are involved in a structured activity they are less likely to participate in anti-social behavior. Adolescents are deemed to have about 40% of their waking hours available for leisure activities, they should be encouraged to make that time as productive as possible helping students be the best that they can be.
