3 Business Meeting Minutes: Monday, May 2, 2011 Event Reports: none Officer Reports: Baron nothing to report A&S Several A&S faires to go to if you want. Registry for the site book for classes at Pennsic is now closed so you may still teach a class but it won t be advertised in the site book. Student Org. We officially exist as an org for next year. Chronicler The Coronation issue will be out next Monday if all goes well. Please submit articles. Maybe a report on how Rivenstar swept court? Chatelaine need more volunteers for the Victorian presentation next week. If you need garb see Rocky or return garb to her. Rocky also gave all the lunch tavern money minus expenses to the student org. Equestrian Ad is not in the Pale. We need to investigate why it isn t. Beaver Report Justin is alive and well. He once again filled in every hole of the vertical pipe drain (but can t fill the top) and has built 2 dams, which both survived the recent flooding. The pond is now 1.5 ft higher than it needs to be. Some helpful people offered up suggestions to fill the pond with things like rice, oatmeal to soak up the extra water or to plant willow trees or to use it for sorting cranberries! Quite helpful suggestions! Herald clearly now, everyone has the awards they deserve and there is no need to recommend more. Well, Simple Day is coming so yes, recommend someone for an award. Three months to Pennsic. Seneschal We are still a Barony. Nothing to report. Monday, May 9, 2011 Event Reports: Rocky reported on the (not exactly SCA related) presentation that she did with the help of Amalie and Marian for the Waynestown Community Church Mother s Day dinner on Friday night. She spoke about the language of flowers, Amalie presented to topic of corsetry and Marian spoke about etiquette and table settings. Officer Reports: Herald Sternfeld throwdown is tomorrow. Wed practice is in the Armory and next week on Slayter Hill. There may be occasional practices at the home of Adam and Mallie on Thursdays as well. Chatelaine See Rocky if you need garb for upcoming events. Chirurgeon Everyone is still healthy. Remember that summer is coming, drink a lot of water! Equestrian Event in July. Arrantxa will have a copy of the Pale ad to put on our website. The reason it didn t get in the Pale is probably that there is another event within 100 miles but it is a Dance symposium so shouldn't conflict. We should still be able to have with permission from the autocrat. Heavy Marshal Wed practice is in the Armory and next week on Slayter Hill. Throwdown is tomorrow. Baron Carry on. War is coming. Exchequer If you have any receipts from Three Saints get them in. Baroness Former Barony members Alwen and Aiden say hello to anyone who may remember them. Chronicler Thanks to Amalie who showed Marian how to compress photos and make the RivenSTAR into a PDF format. Herald Get your award recommendations in for Simple Day. Pennsic is on the horizon. Mail in deadline for registration is May 15, deadline is June 15th. Janusz is moving forward on the banner and oil lamp projects with Arrantxa. Madrigals There will be a madrigal jam session at Pennsic called Sing We Enchanted. It will be organized by Lorelai. Anyone interested in singing can join the group. Rivenstar madrigals are moving nicely toward the kingdom A&S competition. Pieter also offered rides to throwdown tomorrow. Meet at Huis Doorn at 5:30. Beaver Report Last week Pieter said that the Beaver couldn t possibly dam up the entire vertical drain pipe, well.. he was wrong. It managed. There are sticks coming up out of the center. Pieter believes that the muskrat is in cahoots with him because it has been seen with sticks in its mouth possibly reinforcing the up and downstream dams. Page 3

4 Monday May 16, 2011 Glad to see Leslie join our meeting again, welcome and Welcome Back from the East to Gwen who is visiting and who even joined the madrigal practice. Event Report: Pieter reports that he went to MKAoD. The talent pool was very deep. He described taking classes until the lightning started, then there was a dice tournament. Pieter won. Nan got her third Night Hawk shield out of it. Pieter taught a class What works for you. Eight students attended, three of them Warders of the Bronze Ring. Fun was had. There was also an address about motivating your troops by the Constellation Regional Heavy Marshal. Nan reported that several people went to help Enkara and Aendru move to a much larger property with water for the horses etc. It has an above ground pool and a man-cave. Fifteen people with 11 vehicles made three trips. Good luck in your new home Enkara and Aendru. Kat reported making two Celtic knotwork bracelets. Officer Reports: Baroness nothing to report Marshal Practice is outside this Wed. at 6:00 Baroness landscaping for Equestrian event. Exchequer we have money. Baron Heavy practice will be from 6 ish to dark. Chatelaine See Rocky if you need garb Chronicler RivenSTAR is out today. Thanks John for the photos. Marian can volunteer to do the food for the equestrian event. Madrigals We had an extra special guest today. Gwen came back to see us again. Loralai is looking for suggestions for a singing group at Pennsic. Beaver Report Pieter undammed the drainage pipe and while doing so, the muskrat swam by. Sigulf There are 100 entries for the Kingdom A&S and they are looking for 150 judges at least. They are desperately seaking judges so if you can help, please volunteer. Current Business: Equestrian Event Pieter is trying to negotiate with the local pizza place to let us clean out the buffet at the end of lunch. Josie will teach her class on horse first aid. Pieter needs to check for the insurance. Amalie said that the event are on the calendar and will be in the Pale. Other Business: Happy Birthday to Coise, Sophia and Happy almost birthday to Josie. Happy Anniversary to Wulf and Coise. Congratulations to Kat on her graduation and to Josie who will graduate in two weeks. Monday, May 23, 2011 Event Report: No one present went to Chaos Caravan Officer Reports: Herald Pennsic pre-reg deadline is June 15th via the internet. The mail pre-reg date has passed. Baroness we will ride horses soomer or later really! Go to Crown this weekend! Chatelaine If you need garb, see Rocky. Rocky is thinking of teaching a calligraphy class and will post the particulars on the Rivenlist. Baron On Wed we had our first practice outside and it was good despite the new landscaping that takes up about half of the area. Go to Pennsic if you are able. Go to Crown this weekend. A&S If you are going to Crown, check out the A&S on Saturday. There are lots of classes lined up for Pennsic. Chronicler nothing to report. Madrigals We are well prepared for Kingdom A&S assuming the documentation comes together. Equestrian We have a few teachers lined up for the Equestrian event in July. The insurance application has gone in the mail and Leonie said the even is on the calendar. Gwen will bring a cart and show people how to drive it. Seneschal We have room for Sunday Dance practices and we may get them up again for summer. Dance practice may actually happen. Anyone not riding at the Rivenstar Equestrian Event should go to the Known Worlde Dance Symposium. Also, we are still a Barony. Seneschal Leonie will make sure that the Equestrian event can happen. Otherwise nothing else. Future Busniness: Wulf s benefit concert at Pennsic will be on the middle Sunday from 8 9. Beneficiaries will most likely be the Rogers family Page 4

5 Monday, June 6, 2011 Event Reports: Yesterday was the annual Take Your Baroness to Holiday World trip which is bordering on tradition now after 10 years. It was a good day. Officer Reports: Baron Nothing to report He s saving his comments for non-period but funny stories Chirurgeon Beware the sun. Prepare for Pennsic with your medications, especially non-prescription ones like aspirin and other pain relievers. The chirurgeons tent is not a pharmacy for free meds. Remember your sunscreen and hats, along with water. Chronicler nothing to report Marshal quarterly report went out this week. Pennsic was held in April and we won. A&S Nothing to report. Herald Get your Pennsic pre-reg in by next week 6/15. Seneschal Leonie s quarterly report went in too so, as long as we all agree, we can stay a Barony. Current Business: The Equestrian Event Dani said that very soon a volunteer list will go around. The need for volunteers is not huge but we need a little more work done in the Woods and will have a bonfire party afterwards. Everyone is welcome to come out for the event, even if you don t ride. There are a lot of classes planned. It should be about $30 for the whole weekend with meals included. Amalie will help make sure our website is up to date and has all the correct information. We still need Troll operators and some food prep help. Thurs or Friday right before the event will be a tent raising. Beaver Report The Beaver was seen again at long last and in person. Justin was sitting on the far bank grooming himself. He is still alive and well and fat! He wasn t intimidated while Nan was yelling at him. He paid no attention at all. Monday, June 13, 2011 Event Reports: Rocky reported that she held a beginning calligraphy class last Tuesday and had two students; Slaine and Mateus. She will continue the class on Tuesdays. If you d like to join contact Rocky. Janusz reported that he and a few others from Rivenstar went to the Barony of Sternfeld to help them with their annual demo at the Krannert Center. This demo secures a practice site for the Sternfeld fighters for another year. As Janusz put it: Support our annex (I mean cousins) to the south. Officer Reports: Student Org. we exist Chronicler Hoping to get a RivenSTAR out soon. Herald the Heralds Report is due at the end of the month. Check your own name page for errors. Take care of any errors through the kingdom website. Pennsic is coming and we have in the neighborhood of 50 pre-registered. Pre-reg period ends in 2 days on the 15th. Chatelaine If you need garb see Rocky. Her schedule is crazy this summer so contact her ahead of time. She should have garb at practice on the 27th of July, the last Wed before Pennsic. Exchequer Guiliana reports that on the 31st, the books were checked and they are still letting her handle the money! She did discover that we need to have three signers for checks. They can not be the Baron or Baroness or anyone related to or living at the same address as the Baron or Baroness. We are also supposed to have a budget in advance for all events. The budget is supposed to be documented and published in the baronial newsletter. To which Wulf said our budget is that we spend less than we make. Of course it would sound better in Latin. Seneschal We got our deposit back from Three Saints and a Coronation. Baroness The equestrian report is due tomorrow so Takaya will the nothing report in. Madrigals Pieter reports that we did wonderfully at Kingdom A&S and we were invited to sing at Simple Day. We ve asked Wulf to join us on We Be Midrealm Warriors. Current Business: Equestrian Event Preparation is underway. Arrantxa put the website together. The camp ground area was cleaned up over the weekend and is twice the space as last year. But, pre-registrations are not coming in as hoped. Three Horses and a Cart might have to be the new name for the event if they don t pick up. The Page 5

6 equi-sims will be there (wooden horses used to practice). Irena from Aethelmarc in coming to teach a class. Most of the trails are cleaned up it was a great weekend. Help will be needed with pre-event set up on Friday 7/1. There is no need to have a work day now because so much was done this past weekend. Still need troll help on Friday night, Saturday and then Sunday morning. Will need an MC for the event and have a bull-horn. Gallien did this for us last year. There will be a bonfire party Friday night. It is a wet site. On Monday will be a clean up and leftover day. Volunteers are needed to take tents down and help eat up any leftovers. Volunteer needs should be posted to the list. The insurance certificate arrived. Marian will create a budget for the food part of the event. Chronicler due to being out of state last weekend, the new issue of the RivenSTAR will have to wait until next week. Pennsic Cook Group Nan asks that if anyone wants to be part of the cooking group, please contact her. They cook together for 7 days and eat out the last 2. For people who are there the first week, there will be a more relaxed group then as well. Madrigals We are learning parts despite inadvertent misdirection last week. Current Business: Equestrian Event Dani will work on a simple budget. The list-o-needful things is being passed around. Need only a few people but the positions are key. We need help with Troll, a herald and cook s help. Friday set up, need help with tables. Wulf can bring two 6 x 2.5 tables and two or three 6ft x 18 tables. Other needed items are large covered trash cans. Marian, Wulf and Dani volunteered some. Signs There will be need for just a very few.
