2 All of these works will be on display in our College Exhibition Creations in Week 9 of this term. Mrs Amy Richardson Head of Visual Art The Shopfront Drop-off Thank you to everyone in our College community for contributing food, toiletries, bedding and winter clothing to our 2018 Winter Appeal, it has been received with much appreciation. Every single item received will go towards making a major difference in people s lives. There were many families who went above and beyond with their donations this year and that really helped to boost the contributions we were able to deliver to The Shopfront. Miss Cherie Milne Campus Ministry On Wednesday the 15 th August, Georgina Murray, Kasey Donovan Year 8, Holly Kallane Year 11 and I visited The Shopfront, Maylands, where we had first-hand experience on the running of the shop and where the donations from our Winter Appeal are distributed. We learnt how much our support is relied upon to assist those who are disadvantaged within our Perth communities. As Damian Walsh, the Director of The Shopfront, gave us a tour and rundown of the facilities, we learnt that in 2017 alone, visitors counted on donations that come from appeals like ours. Overall, it was a rewarding and insightful experience to be involved in. Thank you to Miss Milne, Mrs Bell and all involved in the organisation of the 2018 Winter Appeal. Josie Kallane Year 12

3 Being involved in the Winter Appeal drop-off to The Shopfront was a very rewarding experience. Learning about the people in the community who don t have the basic necessities like deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes and even clothing is devastating to hear. 30% of the visitors to The Shopfront are Indigenous Australians, 50%-60% are struggling with drug and alcohol related problems and about 15% are homeless and living on the streets. By donating in our Winter Appeal, you are helping families and individuals in the wider community and giving them hope to get back on their feet. Holly Kallane Year 11 Cybersafe Parent Information Evening On Thursday the 23 rd August, the College will be presenting four Cyber Safety sessions, to students in Years Each session will be geared to the specific age group. We are very excited to be giving our students relevant information about living in the world of today. As a College, we feel it is very important for our students to be better informed, when it comes to the digital world and its challenges for our children. As parents, this is a very important presentation that should not be missed. We are therefore offering an information session for parents on the evening of the 23 rd of August at 6.00pm 7.00pm, as previously advertised in the Newsletter and via from Assistant Deputy Principals. If you have not registered for this event, please go to the link below to do so. This allows us to set up for the evening. For more information and to register for this Parent Group funded event, please access the link below. Certificate of Merit Year 12 Rock Band - Katrina Boult, Munashe Chaita, Kallum Erikson, Diron Lau, Mikiel McNamara, Victoria Pang, Gwyneth Roman. Miss Kylie Malam Head of Performing Arts Aussie Gold Cheer and Dance Competition Placings: Hurricanes Cheerleading Team - 2 nd Place Senior Dance Team - 2 nd Place Congratulations to the Irene McCormack Hurricanes and Senior Dance Team for taking out Second Place for both their routines at the Aussie Gold Cheer and Dance Competition last weekend. The competition is the first of the season and was held at HBF Stadium, Mt Claremont. The Hurricane s

7 team had a raw score of 90 and only received 2 minor deductions. Not one stunt hit the floor and the team competed with strength, precision and most importantly, sass. The 24 students in the Senior Dance Team completed their Hip Hop Dance titled, Get Ur Freak On. All the students performed fantastically and had an enjoyable time competing with their team mates. I really enjoyed the day. It was an amazing experience and I can't wait for more comps to come. Before we competed, I was super nervous but when I hit the floor the adrenaline took over and I was ready to give it my all. After we had finished our routine I wanted to go back out and do it all over again, it was so much fun. This cheer team is like my family now and I have made many friendships.
