Message from the President September has been such a busy month for the Club that I don t have much to share this month. The 18 members who were on the England Tour had a great trip.

Linda Roberts is working to arrange a Club road trip to Cambria Bowls Club. If it works out, the road trip will be the first weekend in November.

I know several of our members bring their well-behaved dogs and keep them on a leash when they are at the Club. These dogs have never been a problem.

Since the facility is kept locked, these must have come from member s dogs. KEEP all dogs on leash and off the greens while at the club. Particularly, have your pet tied to the benches when bowling.

2 Message from the President September has been such a busy month for the Club that I don t have much to share this month. The 18 members who were on the England Tour had a great trip. Some Thursday evening soon we will get a collection of our pictures together to share after the Potluck dining. I ll put out an announcement when we are ready to have our presentation. Linda Roberts is working to arrange a Club road trip to Cambria Bowls Club. If it works out, the road trip will be the first weekend in November. I ve been on a couple of Club road trips before and they can be great fun. We ll keep you informed. One recurring issue that we need to cut in the bud. Our greens are not to be use as a dog park! I know several of our members bring their well-behaved dogs and keep them on a leash when they are at the Club. These dogs have never been a problem. But recently we find signs that dogs have been let loose on the greens. We recently found a small area where dog pee killed the grass, and another time, someone found dog droppings left on the greens. Otherwise we may be forced to close the Club to all dogs, even those who do not cause any problem. He was 96 years old. He was a long time member of the club and was made an honorary member a few years ago. He was a keen bowler and very active in the club. He edited The Yellow Jacket for many years. He continued to visit the club regularly even after he could no longer bowl. A memorial celebrating his life will be held on October 18 th at 1 pm at his church, St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 600 St. Andrews Way in Newport Beach.

3 International Bowling at Newport Harbor Lawn Bowling Club - USA v Scotland Bowls Test Series If you came to the club on Wednesday, Sept 18 th, you saw some world-class bowling. It was the second test of a three test series between a team of six men and six women from Scotland and six men and six women from the USA. They played 56 games in the three days of the series in Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours. The top touring team from Scotland prevailed on all three days. 4 US Open Lawn Bowls Open 2013 The US Open was again hosted by the Southwest Division of Bowls USA. The matches were held at various clubs. Many members of our club were involved in running the tournament including Mert Isaacman as chairman of the tournament, Jan Hargraves, representing the Southwest Women s Division, Dee McSparran, representing Bowls USA, to mention a few. It was a truly international competition with teams from Scotland, Wales, England, Northern Ireland, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand, Canada, Thailand, and all across the USA.
