W drov about 350 mils from Los Angls, California in a Mustang wjth all our skiing quipmnt to Mammoth Mountain, on of th largst and most njoyabl ski rsorts in North Amrica. On top of Mammoth Muntain, thr is an ara calld th Cornic (Cornic: ovrhanging mass of snow abov a prcipic). It is an ara for advancd and xprt skirs. Thr ar no asy runs. Evry slop is xtrmly dmanding, and a mistak can oftn man a long tumbl to th bottom. No mattr which run you'r skiing, th runs off th Cornic will tst any skir's ability. Th run w dcidd to ski was calld Hangman's Hollow. Hangman's Hollow what a fitting nam for this run! Th guidbook says, This run is xtrmiy dangrous and should b skid by xprts only. Maximum pitch is 55 dgrs and minimum is 50 dgrs, but actually, it rquirs an almost vrtical drop off th cornic lip. Th first sntnc of this dirction had just xcitd us....should b skid by xprts only. But, I rfusd, bcaus I knw that th gondola's station was so far from whr w wr that it was impossibl to go back, and I also knw that w wr not abl tog!oback to th plain plac without skiing this ypopping stp slop. So I told my partnr to giv that ida up. It took plnty of tim to chang his mind. About aftr tn minuts of arguing, h at last changd his mind. Now it's his turn to play chickn, I thought, but h smd to b so far from rady tojump. I fird him up, Com on! Ifyoucan't do it, nobody can! or Nvr say di! or B mptyhadd!and so on. But it was so far that h couldn't har m. So I waitd. I waitd mor than an hour! I took out th cigartts from th backpack and startd smoking and stoppd watching him.
